97th Academy Awards - 2025 Oscars

Adrien Brody has the most tediously boring personality of any working actor in Hollywood - except maybe Robert De Niro. His 6-minute drivel bored everyone to death, had no oomph, rudely disregarded the orchestra trying to play off his boring ass, and then squeezed in a little anti-semtisim moment, too... So on brand for Brody. I haven't seen the Brutalist, but he's single-handedly put me off watching this movie. Chalamet should have won. His Bob Dylan work was mind-blowing. Didn't see the whole show because it was even more boring than usual, but what I liked: 1. CYNTHIA AND ARIANA EPIC SLAY. Probably the best performance I've seen at the Oscars ever. That's the level they should be operating throughout, and that they used to operate in. I'm glad they proved that their Wicked work was leagues above what almost anyone has done last year. And their looks during the performance were THE looks of the night. 2. SEAN BAKER FINALLY GETTING RECOGNIZED. Been his fan since Tangerine, so this is just perfect. 4 Oscars for my man, hell yeah! 3. MIKEY'S WIN AND SPEECH. She gave the best performance hands-down. Demi wasn't even in half of her own film. Also, I always thought Demi's career was mid (Ghost and a few films aside), and I don't agree with anyone who says "she's due." Due for what? 4. ANORA SWEEP. Prefered Wicked on the whole, but definitely fuckng with this choice. A very worthy and memorable BP winner. 5. THE SUBSTANCE MAKE-UP. If any movie deserves a make-up Oscar, it's this one. Except maybe Nosferatu. 6. WICKED COSTUME & PRODUCTION DESIGN. Duh. 7. IN MEMORIAM. Simple and classy with just the orchestra and the screen and no one belting a boring-ass song, drawing attention to themselves. Although the omission of Alain Delon is weird, to say the least. What I didn't like: 1. THE HOST. Terrible sense of humor, complete with an Adam Sandler cameo within first two minutes - kill. me. Way to set the bar low from the start! Did not laugh at a single joke. And that 'let's waste time with a song about not wasting time' was a new low even for the modern Oscar era. 2. EMILIA PEREZ WINNING MUSIC. The fact that the winners sang live and did it so fucking poorly is a perfect book-end to this piece of shit movie's awards run. 4. ZOE SALDANA WINNING. Again, she can't sing, she can't dance, she's not much of an actress, her career is mostly superhero rubbish, her movie is a turd fest, she's more of a lead role in it - I could go on and on. Gonna think of this one as a "they couldn't award all white actros, and she was right there, so..." But it's still one of the worst acting Oscar wins ever imo, and her speech was cringe (as usual). 5. WICKED, AND A COMPLETE UNKNOWN DESERVED MORE LOVE. Everyone there wish they could make movies like that, periodt. Also, as much as I love the awards season, I'm glad it's over. With 4000 precursor awards over the span of 3-4 months, it's all becoming a little too much. Does a movie need 142 awards, even if it's as good as Anora? This is Mikey Madison's first lead role and she already has 60 (sixty) awards now. Meryl Streep has 186. That just shows you how many more film awards there are now. If Meryl Streep was only starting now, she would have accumulated 5059 awards in her lifetime. It's bizarre. Like, Dallas Film Critics, Chicago Film Critics, Boston, Florida, Kansas, Las Vegas, London... Every city in America giving out film awards makes no sense. What does Boston have to do with film, or Las Vegas? Why should we care for their opinion or their film critics' opinions? Stopp. -

Yeah, Domingo's acting does nothing for me - but his fashion is top-notch. I love that June Squibb is attending. She just walked by looking fab in her 90s. She's as old as the Oscars themselves. Also, this TV presenter's navy tux is fire. -

March 2nd and still no single. KILL MEEE I remember March last year and when she announced the record for Sept. Right? I thought will have the first single like last July. Hopefully that means a lot more work has been into everything. -
Lana Del Rey and Quavo “Tough” - OUT NOW!

Ahh, you're right! You can be invited by your peers too! Would paste what I've found on that, but this website is flat-out not working for me anymore. And, yes, it's disappointing how some don't take it seriously. But then there are so many older members (trust me on this), pampered celebrities, and folks in the middle of making long-ass TV series or Marvel shoots. I'm not justifying it, of course, just saying I'm n not surprised that not everyone is taking it religiously. Folks have contractual obligations, kids, grandkids, etc, I've also seen so many of these bizarre comments from voters over the years. It almost feels like complete amateurs or kids voting at times. Because just because someone is good at like, sound design, it doesn't mean they know shit about storytelling or acting or whatever. You know what I mean? I worked with some editors, sound designers and tech guys, and some of their tastes were questionable at best. Like, one tech guy told me his fav film of all time was Drive with Ryan Gosling. *face palm. Of all time!!! Yikes. But to be fair, their choices as of late were pretty solid, e.g. Parasite. So I don't think they'll go with Emilia Perez. And, yes, a split between Fernanda, Demi and Mikey would be fab! I want all three to win for different reasons. Though I think Demi stands the biggest chance. They'll not give it to Mikey for her first leading role - just like they didn't give it to Chalamet for Call Me By Your Name (Gary Oldman took it instead). What I really want it is for EP to win nothing and Ariana to win for Best Supporting. Also Chalamet. Haven't seen Brody yet, but he cannot be better than Chalamet. Also he already won for a Holocaust movie, and a similar role. Like, let's diversify. What's your biggest wish this season? -

I'm dying to watch this movie. I'm sure I'll love it, and I hope it bags an award or two, at least. -
97th Academy Awards - 2025 Oscars

Okay, so, whoever gets nominated, automatically becomes a member of the Academy, if I remember correctly. That means someone like, for example, Andy Garcia who got nominated only once back in 1991 and is now 68 years old will be voting. You'll often have dodgy decisions at the Oscars (e.g, Crash winning over Brokeback Mountain because of bunch of old straight farts from the Eisenhower and Reagan eras not having taste). Is Garcia into film now as much as he used to be? Is he in good health? Does he have the energy to watch dozens of movies, a lot of which are utter garbage like Emilia Perez? Can he sit through a four-hour Holocaust movie about an architect? I don't blame him if he doesn't, to be honest. I loathed Dune 1, thought it was one of the most boring movies ever (albeit visually spectacular), and I fell asleep multiple times. I gave Dune II a decent shot, too, and had the exact same experience. And I'm a huge Chalamet and Villeneuve fan! So, I'm fine with voters not vibing with everything or not being able to squeeze it all in. When you don't click with a script, you just don't click. The Dune story to me is literal hogwash. And at the end of the day, most of these votes will be in their 60, 70s and 80s. That being said, the Erivo and Fiennes comments are just bizarre. But, again, these might just be some older voters whose faculties are not all that anymore. What I'm saying is - don't expect much. -

I wouldn't be surprised if she played Henry to the label and they want "nah, you can't have this be the first single." So, she's working on a track that would fill that spot better, waiting on Jack to step in, but she's probably busy, etc. It might not even be that she's lazy but waiting for all these different elements (and people to come together). -

name changes are totally fine and normal. The album is still shaping up... So, she might have a song called The Right Person will Stay that she loves and wanted to name the album after it. But then she made a better song with a beter title. What's worrying is that she's changing things and working on it. Kinda should been sent for pressing already damnit -

Agree with everything you've said. Very interesting season. Super happy for Brazil (though I haven't seen the film yet), Sebastian Stan (although Craig did his best work yet in Queer), and, yes, it's going to be a blood both. I am sat! -

Has she at least registered any new songs? I remember Love was first spotted that way. -
Okay, S3 is incredible so far. It lacks some of the more intellectual dialogue that season 1 and 2 both had, but the plotting is top-notch. Can definitely see the downfall of Gary aka Craig. Although, I wouldn't be surprised if Belinda puts two and two together and decides to do nothing about it. After all, Tanya stood her up massively. We'll definitely see someone wearing the snake-shaped jewelry. Although, I reckon the Russian guy (the wellness instructor) is behind that. The Patrick S. character is definitely the hottest one they've had so far. His libido is hot.

It's giving LFL scrap to me. But it's also really fire. just because the new album is giving low key country americana with henry, it doesn't mean it won't have a few edgy songs like fenway. there's still hope. I think folks here just don't want chemtrails part 2 which henry is giving. Like we've been there, we've done that -
hot as always, and talented af

What's the name of the single? To be fair, I'm not expecting much from her this year. She must be getting a tonne of pressure to put out new music right now - from her label and every tom, dick and harry. You can't write good songs like that. Lower your expectations, I reckon.

That's my concept and art direction. Obviously, Neil would work his magic, the font need fixing etc. But i like how she's staying there despite the alligators. Makes the lame-ass title actually cool. also her first sexy cover concept in a decade... -

I don't think so. She'll need to tour/do concerts when the record drop cuz you don't earn that much streaming. Then she'll get pregnant (if she already isn't) and take a few years off: Most importantly, does she seem inspired to you to put out two records back to back? We got one snippet off the new album in 2 years. it's more likely that OB was a big burst of inspo at those 16 songs and her muse is taking a long-ass break -

I'd spend my life savings on the Mirror being an opener. I'm so bored with her album openers since White Dress. But I'd bet my entire life on the opening track being another ballad. Feel free to come and hunt me down if it ain't. It's been nearly a decade since she's opened an album with something other than a ballad... So, expect sth like Roses Bloom for You, Sweet Carolina part 2 or The Grants part 2. 🥱 -

Agreed on AKA. Whenever she does take a break, she should drop that to tie the fans over. That being said. I'm not sure if she'll be taking breaks at all. She said she wants to die knowing that she's given everything she's got to give. I reckon she'll take a break after 'Person' because she'll get pregnant, but still be back in a few years. Bob Dylan released 40 albums and I can see LDR making at least 20.
