Always liked this song, but the reverb on her voice is annoying af.
-
kinda crazy that she lets songs like lost at sea, which sits at the very bottom of her songs on iTunes as her least played song (and rightfully so), you'll never walk alone (unlistenable with her worst ever vocals) and the atrocious Life Lesson see the light of day, when she's got tracks like Hollywood, Serial Killer, Fine China and so many others just sitting on her computer.

I heard him before, he's very talented. As much as I keep banging on about bangers and beats, I wouldn't mind a Lana country album. But I still need one more upbeat song with a contemporary production. Maybe something like Love. It's been a while since she's dropped something really uplifting. And if she's doing country, then I hope she gets Taylor and Father John Misty on board, and not the lame-ass Nicki Lane.

imagine a Grimes collab ala Tulsa Jesus Freak but with more beats! lana needs her electronica record, it would be new territory for her
-
love it. Zaro interest in Lorde but Florence would be hot. Love your production posse

Collabs you'd like to see on LDR 10? That's right, ladies, gents and non-binaries of Lana Boards! The time has come to manifest heavily the collabs you're dying for on LDR10. You can pick anyone in the world, (past collaborators, major new pop stars, producers, musicians, whoever), but there is one rule. You can only pick up to SIX collaborators. I'll start: Emile Haynie. That's right - I'd like to have the writer of producer of Born to Die back. Daddy needs beats. And good ones! Rick Nowels - Yep - I want the co-writer of Summertime Sadness, Young and Beautiful, West Coast and Shades of Cool back. I want BIG songs back. ASAP Rocky - like him or not, their collabs were fire. The Weeknd - this spiritual and musical partnership need to go on. As much as I love her work with Father John Misty, etc, I miss the moody dark collabs with pop's biggest stars. Also, imagine those streaming numbers. Grimes - this collab needs to happen, and where better than my imaginary Emile Haynie produced LDR10. Kevin Parker of Tame Impala - I just feel he's a genius in his own right, and I feel like their collab would be fire. That's it! Your turn.

I agree! Take some time off and come back with something fresh. I really hope she doesn't rush the release and pull another Blue Banisters.

Lust For Life - Post-Release Discussion Thread + Poll
barttttender replied to Elle's topic in Post-Release Threads
I love lust fo life. It's a multi-faceted record with all kind of new territories for Lana vocally, lyrically and musically. -
F-ing love Cola. Paradise is underrated. The one-two combo of Born to Die's tracks like Blue Jeans and Born to Die, and then Paradise's Cola and Ride and God and Monsters, wow. Who even does that? Also, the opening three tracks of Paradise (Ride, Cola and American)back to back don't get enough love. One of her greatest three-song combos ever. It's only surpassed by BTD, Off to the Races and Blue Jeans, and then Norman's NFR, Mariner's and Venice Bitch. And, of course, UV had a really strong opening trio too. But I do feel like her last three albums don't have that level of oomph, with songs like Sweet and Tulsa Jesus Freak not reaching those highs, and BB having her weakest opening Hopefully, we get a total slay with LDR 10's opening.

1. Doin' Time 2. Hollywood 3. Driving in Cars with Boys Bright and sunny, California-inspired album. And, yes, I'm a leo

What a lovely recap! I stand behind all of these.

Classy and mature. Nailed it.

Also doesn't mean they didn't write 50% of the actual lyrics. That we'll never know. Btw, I stan Lana as a lyricist foremost so in no way am i throwing shade at her lyricism. But i do think that it's a bit silly or narrow minded to demand her to write everything herself or think less of her if she doesn't or didn't. And again, she herself isn't against it - but, let's face, she probably hears/receives a lot of stuff and says "that's trash", which a lot of music just is nowadays
-
Don't forget the random vocal samples, like on Blue Jeans, and the random beats that sounded like vocals somehow. The production - as poppish as it was - was super cinematic and layered. A little experimentation would be great. Btw glad we all went from arguing to a nice little discourse
-
Yeah, some people have started referring to her recent work as "background music". I hate it but they have a point. Given how lowkey a lot of the songs are. I still love them (white dress and ob in top 10). But god i hope she gets out of her lowkey phase soon and shows more grit like aw
-
Of course she'd have input on the lyrics. She'd probably edit the f. out of them as she's a stronger writer than anyone. It's more about shopping for a song that's upbeat musically, really. If Tame Impala, for example, wrote a song for her that's a bit more on the fun side and she wrote the lyrics with Kevin Parker together - imagine the fire.
-
And what would be the problem with that exactly? Beyonce has 11 writers credited on each song. Lyricists are hired all the time by the likes of Dua Lipa and a million other people. In fact, Lana is one of the rare pop artists who writes her own stuff. Having written two hundreds of songs herself, she definitely earned respect both audience and industry wide. Also, again, Lana herself has said she wouldn't mind if someone wrote her a song, somewhere between NFR-LFL eras. Would pull it up but it would take me ages to find. More importantly, I'm not suggesting she does it - I love her writing and that's why I'm here. I'm saying that if she's not in a more upbeat mindset, it wouldn't be the worst idea to collaborate or be open to suggestions. p.s. We don't know what's happening in the studio and who writes how much. I'm sure she writes 90% of it, but at the end of the day it's a collaborative record and Sam Dew is also a lyricist. I'm sure Nowels contributed lyrics as well having worked with Madonna and others.
-
Huh? Two or three people can write a Lana song, and they have. So technically, occasionally, we're not listening to words she wrote. Example: AW written by Lana Del Rey Jack Antonoff Sam Dew Sure. Where's the teaser? I missed that.
