The most WTF moments of LDR's career in your opinion
barttttender replied to barttttender's topic in Lana Thoughts
amen. Her taste in choosing singles died at the start of the new decade -
Well, if that's the case, I hope it's not all old school country throughout. We need at least one song with a modern twist like Old Town Road by Lil Nas X. I mean, it's 2023 and things have evolved from thhe Brokeback Mountain era sonically. Leave old school country to Keith Urban. But does anyone else here want Lana to go back to beats and drums? Like full-blown Born to Die hip-hop shit? Like if you agree. Personally, I'm dying for it! DYING. Not since Doin' Time and Don't Call me Angel (both in the last decade) did we get a straight-up bop. Been listening to the Say Yes to Heaven remixes all day long. Her voice fits the retro vibe so well, and kudos to her for always finding the right classic context, but it can also sound very modern and sexy (the voice of a generation), and she's just not giving it the contemporary space it deserves. It's just a shame that her output is 80% classic (the greatest, OB, White Dress, the Grants, Say Yes to Heaven, Margaret, Mariner's, NFR, etc etc. etc.), and 20% contemporary (Summertime Sadness, Summer Bummer, Off to the Races, National Anthem, HIgh by the Beach, Doin' Time). I wish it were at least 70-30. And it's all down to production and tempo. Because a lot of her songs could be produced as contemporary pop easily.

ahhh i had no idea. I just think he's so hot. Still not as hot as her italian boyfriend, he was stellar bartender was always a weird choice to play in concerts. But did you see how everyone sings all of the lyrics? People love the song (mysef included, obvs) -

yeah, it just seems like she was butthurt that she doesn't have a number 1 and has blamed these artists for that somehow. when the fact is, she could have topped the chart if she had continued down the path of BTD's big productions and beats, aka played the game a bit. -

To be fair though, she seems to have learned her lesson and never done anything similar again. If she hadn't slipped then, who knows, she coulda said sth. even worse and got cancelled for real. -

You're probably right. But, let's face it, that single did nothing to further her career, she never plays it, and no one ever uses it anywhere (movies, TikTok, socials). It was only a single because it was the most upbeat (even though Art Deco had a much catchier melody and has stood the test of time). Lmao 🤣 True... -

I like Chemtrails. But I always found it a bit too low budget and not on par with Shades of Cool, Born to Die and even CN now. The video I have in mind for Wild at Heart is a lot bigger. Think Ride but with photographers (due to the lyrics), a Hollywood star escaping to the mid-West and living on a porch with a hot model, being found again, etc. It's just a bigger production. -
I mean, anything but another album stacked with piano ballads. Anything literally. I'd take a trash EDM Lana record over piano. Bues, reggae, heavy metal, dubstep, k-pop, bring anything. other. than. piano. ballads. ffs. lana. please.

OMG YESSS! I FORGOT THAT ONE. One of my all-time fav lyrics. Heartbreaking, and the level of specific detail in that number of syllables. Genius. You, sir/mam, have exquisite taste

Like, wrong decisons, stuff she's said, wrong choices? I'll start: 1. Not making a hot video with ASAP Rocky for Summer Bummer or even double video with Groupie Love. Instead, we get a White Mustang video? WTF! 2. Not releasing Wild at Heart as the first single off Chemtrails with a high-budget video ala Ride, featuring porches, driving around the mid-West, hot boys, and that sweet, sweet Americana. WTF 3. Releasing Freak as a single and making a video for it. Huh? What. Who asked for it? Art Deco would have been a much more logical choice. Or, even better, Hollywood, had she put it on the record like she should have (another WTF) 4. Releasing Let Me Love You Like a Woman as the first single. LOL. What was she thinking? And that video...... 5. Adding a shit ton of reverb to her vocals on the gorgeous Tomorrow Never Came and practically ruining the song with it 6. The shit, 90s style video for White Dress. That song deserved so much better 7. Text Book as the opening track on BB. Blue Banisters would have been so much better, and followed her 1-2-1-2 pattern. Those are the top ones for me. My biggest pet peeves. What are yours?

Love the Wild at Heart love! So underrated. Great lyrics, great melody, great production, great song. I always say shoulda been the first single with a big-budget Ride style video on a ranch and Lana driving around. That first, Chemtrails second, White Dress third, and scrap Let me love you as a single.

Love this thread! Someone once said "If LDR was a Spice Girl, she'd be Literary Spice, and I totally agree with that. Her lyrics are as good as her vocals and her music, and they're what makes the whole thing (the Lana Del Rey thing) work. In her own words, she's a "writer first". Here are some of my personal favs (but there are many more!): 'Cause even in the dark I feel your resistance, you can see my heart burning in the distance" "Me myself I like I diamonds" "On the stop with the neighorhood kids, calling out, bang bang, kiss, kiss" "I'm a different kind of woman. If you want some basic bitch then go to the Beverly Center and find her" The entire bridge of Blue Jeans ("You went out every night, and, baby, that's all right...") "Likes to watch me in the glass room, bathroom, Chateau Marmont, slipping on my red dress, putting on my make up, glass film, perfume, cognac, lilac fumes, says it feels like heaven to him" "We both know, that it's not fashionable to love me." (what a great opening line for an album) "God-damn, man-child, you fucked me so good I almost said "I love you" (same) "Wo-wo-wo--wo-whoa, whatever, everything's whatever" (Lana doing nihilism to electric guitar and killing it, love VB to death) "Down on the West Coast, they've gotta saying" and "I can see my baby swingin', his Parliament's on fire and his hands are up" (so specific) "I’ve got things to do, like nothing at all/ I wanna do them with you/ Do you wanna do them with me?” "f he's a serial killer, then what's the worst / That can happen to a girl who's already hurt? "I went to Paris... Texas" "Oh, God, miss you on my lips... It' s me, your little Venice bitch" "You know that I'd just die to make you proud" "I've got things to say to you, but I'll just let you live"
-
lmao Well, I'm not gonna lie and say everything is terrible. The album has a few bright spots, mainly Black Bathing, Arcadia, If You Lie Down Next to Me, Wildfire, and Thunder. I can live with the title track as well. (Though none of the songs has entered my top 50, even prefer Hollywood Bowl to any of them, for examples). If the whole album had that quality, it woulda been fine. But instead, we got Interlude (the Trio), a bunch of recycled unreleased songs that no one wanted, and utter shite like Beautiful, Sweet Carolina, Violet for Roses, and Text Book (her worst opening tack ever)
-
None of those songs are even in my top 100 Lana songs. Maybe Black Bathing Suit. But the chorus is so basic, stupid and disjointed to the rest of the song ("He said I was bad, let me show you how bad girls do"). I guess if I had to name three off that album it'd be Black Bathing Suit, If You Lie Down Next to Me and Arcadia)..

Hi y'all, Was wondering what everyone's fav tracks are on each LDR record? Like, if you could save only three from each record, which one would you go for? BTD: Blue Jeans Video Games Summertime Sadness (Sorry Born to Die) Paradise: Ride Cola God's and Monsters (Sorry, American) UV: West Coast Ultraviolence Shades of Cool HM: High by the Beach Music to Watch Boys to Art Deco (Sorry The Blackest Day, but you belong on UV anyway) LFL: Lust for Life Summer Bummer Groupie Love NFR: Mariner's Apartment Complex Venice Bitch The greatest (Sorry NFR, Happiness, Doin' Time, California, FILY and Bartender, love ya to death) COCC: White Dress Chemtrails over the Country Club Wild at Heart (probably the most perfect trio on any of her albums conceptually after NFR. Wild at Heart deserves so much more love. And it shoulda been the first single) BB: N/A (it sucked) OB: Ocean Boulevard AW Candy Necklace (This album is her least cohesive sonically so it's hard to choose three great tracks that sound like they're from the same album. Margaret and Let the Light in might be better choices to go with OB conceptually, though)
-
When someone says they love BB and rank it high, I mentally blacklist them and never read anything they say again. And not just on the topic of LDR lmao Love this ranking! Pretty similar to mine, especially the bottom slate. What about your thoughts on the rest of the tracks she dropped this year? Hollywood Bowl?

barttttender replied to barttttender's topic in Lana Thoughts
oh my lord, havent heard any of these except China. I thought this song is older? also, why didn't she add it to BB? It woulda been better than most songs on that shyte record and fit perfectly with the forelorn sound -
Rank all of Lana's 20 songs released in 2023!
barttttender replied to barttttender's topic in Lana Thoughts
Wuuuuut??? For me, Hollywood Bowl is in her top 50 ever. Such a gorgeous song (and this coming from someone who's really over her piano balladry). What is wrong with you? 🤣 -
Hey guys, As Lana's collab with Jon Batiste approaches (few more days now), I thought it'd be fun for us to rank all of Lana's songs released in 2023 (so far). Here's the full list of tracks. “The Grants” “Did you know that there’s a tunnel under Ocean Blvd” “Sweet” “AW” “Judah Smith Interlude” “Candy Necklace” “Jon Batiste Interlude” “Kintsugi” “Fingertips” “Paris, Texas” “Grandfather Please Stand On The Shoulders Of My Father While He’s Deep-Sea Fishing” “Let The Light In (feat. Father John Misty)” “Margaret (feat. Bleachers)” “Fishtail” “Peppers (feat. Tommy Genesis)” “Taco Truck x VB” "Say Yes to Heaven" “Snow on the Beach” (more Lana Del Rey) - with Taylor Swift “Lost at Sea” - with Rob Grant "Hollywood Bowl" with Rob Grant Of course, I'll start. For me, it'd go something like: Great 1. Ocean Boulevard (even though I believe it's technically released last year but let's go with it) 2. Snow on the Beach (a lot of you will hate me for it, but I love the lightness of the song and how poppish it is, I miss commerical Lana) 3. A&W 4. Say Yes to Heaven 5. Taco Truck x VB (die-hard fan of Venice Bitch so this has to be in the top 5) 6. Hollywood Bowl (I never thought I'd like a collab with her dad this much, but I genuinely think it's a great ballad) Excellent 7 Let the Light in 8. Paris, Texas 9. Candy Necklace (grown on me) 10. Margaret 11. Grandfather, please stand on the shoulders of my father... Good 12. Sweet 13. The Grants 14. Peppers 15. Fishtail Bad 16. Jon Batiste Interlude 17. Judah Smith Interlude 18. Kintsugi (so boring) Terrible 19. Fingertips (hate it) 20. Lost at Sea (only listened to it once, sounds like it was made up on the spot)
