i still do not believe they were youtube rips. i think it is just something fans made up to be overdramatic & unnecessarily angry. i honestly do not even notice them being noticeably lesser quality when i play the album. i think they blend in perfectly & the more time that passes i start to forget they were leaked songs. i also believe that these songs only leaked a couple years ago after years of being locked up bc lana probably moved them to a folder or email or something with the intention of finally using them. but i know fans will tell me both of these beliefs are wrong but whatever.

everyone is acting like this is such a difficult situation discerning which leaks are ok but the simplest answer is none. i know most of us have listened to leaks in the past but it is never too late to stop & be better fans. obviously some people will continue to listen to & beg for leaks but we do not have to pretend it is morally ok. as fans we have not been giving lana the respect she deserves. this recent situation may have never happened if her fans were not so obsessed with leaks. i can only pray this is the last time this happens to her but i will admit i am not very optimistic.

when blue banisters came out i started wondering where we should draw the line with leaks. i always indulged in leaks from previous eras bc i assumed they would never be released but then some were. & now with lana's new posts we are left with a new question, is the limit when someone's safety is at risk? i think morally we should draw a line before we know something will be released & before someone is put in danger. in general i am now thinking all leaks, no matter how they are obtained or what their future will be are morally wrong. obviously listening to leaks is not as bad as being responsible for them leaking but it is still wrong imo. if an artist gives their blessing, it is a different story but that should go by a song by song basis. but also if an artist says it is ok but it was obtained in a less than savoury way is it still ok? obviously we all draw the line at different points & no one is going to stop a fan from indulging in leaks if thwy choose to but i think we are at the point where we no longer need to sugar coat it & we can admit it is always wrong. the more we try to excuse certain leaks, the more incentive people have to ruin future releases or risk lana's safety & i do not think we should wait until those lines are crossed to decide something is wrong. & this is directed at myself just as much as everyone else since this is something i have been pondering for awhile.

i know. i was saying how we were discussing the morality of listening to leaks in general & that could be a sensitive issue for her which caused her to bring up what happened recently like adding in her two cents on the issue of whether leaks are ever ok to listen to.

i wonder if lana was lurking on lanaboards today bc she said this robbery happened a few months ago yet today after the taylor song leaked we were discussing whether it was morally ok to listen to any leaks & i wonder if that was a sensitive issue for lana with all of her work being stolen again so recently.

there is no way to know which feels like a message from God that all leaks (music, photos, videos, anything) are off limits. from now on i will avoid any leaks of hers of any kind no matter how old or new. lana deserves better than this. whoever stole these things from her & a the times this has happened before are no true fans. they treat her like a product they are owed & not a real person with real feelings & dreams. i will keep her in my prayers & hopefully this never happens again & people think twice before leaking her stuff from now on.

imo none of these were worth meltdowns. question for the culture was completely justified & everything she said was right. chemtrails cover was cute & sentimental plus the alt cover was sold at major retailers in like every country. snow on the beach was not really a big surprise & most lana fans were already prepared to hate it even if lana got a verse bc they hate taylor. but i guess as women we reserve the right to be overdramatic about everything

one thing i have noticed today tho is i really like how taylor's fans actively discourage listening to & sharing leaks. they really respect her & want her to have a proper release. sometimes i wish lana's fans were more like that during album releases (old unreleased are fair game imo, but i have been debating that position ever since blue banisters so idk maybe i should ask my priest his opinion lmao)

i have not listened to the leak nor will i. i can wait 2 more days. but here are my thoughts from what i have heard about it. i did hope lana would get a substantial part in the song but i am surprisingly not disappointed. i get the feeling this was more of a songwriting collaboration & taylor probably asked lana to hop on the song. i would not doubt lana only wanted to do backing vocals & maybe that is also the case with many other female features taylor has had too. women tend to be more agreeable & modest than men so maybe the women often do not want to take up time in taylor's songs but the men do not mind doing so. anyway, i would not read too much into it. also taylor always credits features even if it is just backing vocals & i think it is just to give everyone adequate credit & royalties not for hype. if anything i have noticed more taylor fans getting into lana in preparation than lana fans getting into taylor so it seems like taylor is spreading lana to her audience not trying to invade lana's. i do not think lana was swindled into anything & knew exactly what she was agreeing to. it is fine to be disappointed obviously especially as lana fans excited to hear lana but i do not think this was a malicious ploy by taylor. i still have not heard the song but i am still excited to & still excited for the album. even tho lana is my favourite artist ever, i still do very much like taylor so it is just a lucky bonus for me that lana is involved with the song even if just a little bit. & again, think about all the new fans lana got by taylor praising her & featuring her. this is still a win. maybe i am being too optimistic here but it beats being upset all the time (which i usually am, so this is good!)

i will listen to the full album in order then i might listen to snow on the beach again a few times on its own before listening to the album again. i imagine i will not listen to anything else other than this album on friday. i was already excited for it before the lana feature was announced altho that is the song i am most excited for.

Blue Banisters - Post-Release Discussion Thread + Poll
wilting daisy replied to Elle's topic in Post-Release Threads
i could see lana getting song of the year. it is a songwriting award which is what she gets praised the most for. & blue banisters is a very well written song. definitely the best choice in song to submit. but at the same time i am not holding my breath bc the grammys always snub her. -
i am starting to think there's a good chance lana will announce her next album formally a few weeks after midnights comes out. here's to hoping it is a short pre-release period. maybe taylor is helping her keep things under wraps so it can be more of a surprise than usual. i still do not think the album will be coming out this year but i am ready to be proven wrong!
-
if boz is talking about lana & he is surprised he likes it so much, what do we expect for the album? i am not super familiar with which songs of hers he likes & dislikes.
-
i think she meant she wishes she could release an album ahead of the vinyls not that she did not want to release vinyls at all. but her label knows her first week sales rely mostly on physical media so she might not get the option to release the album digitally first then physically later. she probably only got to do that with violet bc her label knew it would not make waves the way a regular album would (although i do think it still topped the vinyl charts once the physicals were released anyway)
-
i really think lana helped write the song. it is possible taylor just asked lana to sing with her but i doubt it since taylor really admires lana's songwriting and i imagine she'd jump at the opportunity for them to write together. plus since both taylor & lana frequently work with jack, i imagine it would be easy to all sit together and bounce ideas off each other. that would probably be half the fun of the collaboration too.
-
i keep seeing people on twitter saying the tracklist looks like a list of weed strains & it is so true
-
i would not expect anything whether a single or an announcement before december at the earliest. lana will probably wait until a lot of the hype over taylor's album has died down. but i could also see her not waiting too long as an attempt to let her album slip under the radar while people are still focused on the new taylor album.
-
not liking taylor's music is one thing but it is not productive to dwell on it. no one is forcing you to listen to this song. lana is not personally victimizing you by doing a song with someone you do not like. i cannot wrap my head around how people are fine with lana collaborating with literal woman abusers yet taylor swift is a step too far for them... just say you hate women & move on.
-
idk if this is a strange interpretation but i feel like the song could be about the beauty of things past their time/the beauty of decay. beaches are usually associated with summer & warm weather but come winter beaches tend to be empty & desolate yet very beautiful when covered in fresh fluffy new snow. maybe it could be about coming to terms with something being over or getting older. or maybe even about seeing things through a new perspective. it is an interesting title so there is a lot to speculate especially since both lana & taylor are pretty good with metaphors.
-
imagine if lana & taylor recorded 2 collabs & put one on each of their albums kind of like the first time tom petty & stevie nicks collaborated & they did one for each of their albums... i know it is unlikely but a girl can dream this is a once in a lifetime type collab. it is like if paul mccartney & brian wilson did a song together. the magic of it!
