@kristanaj- Bowie died an older person, of a non-rock star ordinary person death that anyone could die of.
It was not a Rock star death. Bowie made it to older age (though not overly old, but not 27 either, not in his 40s like Elvis. Not an overdose
and basically, not a death that was from excess.

Bowie and Lana have a similar chart trajectory (talking USA charts)
(Lana actually has better chart stats than Bowie in the same amount of time Bowie had
Space Oddity was a bomb the first time it was released, and never was a high charter (much like Video Games  and
other songs did not chart in the early days
(Bowie went Disco and got the #1s later on, and wrote with Lennon and Fame became #1 and did duets and had major hits
(and also some shit, like the Jagger duet).

Bowie did few award shows, bowie got few awards (1 grammy and 1 lifetime achievement, though I predict next yr. will win album, male, record of the year if not more, and keep Adele from winning(she was not eligible this year)

Major difference between Bowie and Lana is Lana is much more down to earth, and fan-friendly whereas Bowie was a major asshole
if you met him or asked for an autograph. He considered himself high above a regular person and brushed off fans all the time as a waste of his time.

You can believe Lana is not a persona, however, prior to Honeymoon, I believed one day Lana would be no more and Elizabeth would be, now knowing Lana has had problems with stalkers, psychos, etc. Lana is a way of being Lana on days she wants to, and the months where no one hears anything, she is Elizabeth, in her private life. (and that can be true even if there is no difference between Lana and Elizabeth.

Not being on the merry-go-round where the press is notified someone is going to be at such and such (and then expressing mock horror the press is there) and that is basically the story of High by the beach.

    It's a continuing theme.

Some here think/thought she(Lana/Elizabeth) would just disappear forever.

Plainly she is saying that will never happen.

But it's the community she is with that matters, not the fame, not the sales, not the charts
The creating experience, the writing, the recording, the mixing, then doing it all again 9 months later(releasing it a year or 18 months after)
    that is important.
    Not the bullshit.
So if she wants to party and be with friends in the biz at functions, she goes. But she don't do the shows

Many stars do all the shit
However, many stars don't do the shit and are still stars (and many of those are held in high esteem even if they don't kiss every ass that needs to be kissed.

(Reminds me of Neil Diamond,in his 20s, in 1967, singing "Girl you'll be a woman soon" and Neil Diamond, in his 70s now, singing the same song
and one has to go ewww that is weird, a 70 year old singing a song about a 16 or 17 year old.

the great thing is, if Lana ever actually wants to have a string of #1 singles, or even one, she is just one day away from that song happening.
Doesn't mean though she will ever actually want it, and it's up to her, isn't it?

After all, she could also do a 6 way duet with the 5 Lucian Grande Best Album nominees and have a super group #1 (or do 6 different duets that all are released as singles, including one with Kendrick, and 1 with the country singer Chris Stapleton, etc.)

I am still of the opinion that Honeymoon is a complete dissertation about celebrity and fame itself.
And the inner battle of Elizabeth vs. Lana as witness Elizabeth on a Hollywood tour bus going to see the homes of the stars with Lana Del Rey being one of the
stars whose home will be looked at.

And how a younger starlet wanted all that fame had to offer, and the world seen as Elvis and Marilyn is not all it is or was cracked up to be

And how as our heroine ages, the realization that it's a Faustian battle with the devil and time to get off the Yellow Brick road

but with a twist. and a stern warning to the press and to the ones that won't let her grow old gracefully, that she will not succumb and she will not be the people Elvis and Marilyn, and the Beatles' John Lennon ended up in real life, all the others (a short actual career as opposed to a long life)

24 is saying literally there are only 24 hours in a day and there is not time enough to do the things SHE wants to do,if she were to only do the things OTHERS berate her for not doing (and that includes she wants her own time to be "High by the beach" she loves, and has traveled 3000 plus miles from NY to California to see the other side of the water (Santa Monica/Mailbu) she was on at the start (Brooklyn's Coney Island)

So the question of the Grammys would be-
Which of the 5 album of the year records would Lucian Grande not have supported, to have Lana's been in?
As all 5 nominees were Grande's and so was Lana, that makes 6 for 5 spots.
So one can't say its "her record company not supporting her"
We aren't privy to the record contracts of each.

I assume its a given Taylor has to be promoted the most, Kendrick and Weeknd were 2 sure- spots.
Chris Stapleton was the country one.
So it must have come down to Alabama Shakes and Lana
(Not to mention all the other companies, but we all know industry events and awards are not open awards anyhow.
Record companies and promo are told who to vote for and the votes are bundled like election campaign donations.

This happened with Big Eyes, where in the end, Harvey did not put his dollars at all into that movie, but in another.
It wasn't that Lana didn't promote it, she was at MOMA solo doing media for it, but Harvey put the $$$ in another.
(This year, at the Oscars for other people, one again sees company manipulation.)

When Young & Beautiful from Gatsby was up, one also saw the company itself did not promote that movie, they promoted
DiCaprio and others for other movies.

So mostly it has nothing to do with Lana at all.

And "once upon a dream" wasn't eligible as it was a cover of the original and in the Oscars, covers are not eligible for songs.
(they should have a separate category for that like they have for screenplays)

Lana's best shot at a grammy might have been (and this is what I did not realize) if Weeknd had releaed and heavly promo'd
Prisoner, but the company was the same, and Weeknd wasn't the one they put the money in, it was Lamar and Swift,
so Weeknd really never stood a chance.

Wish I had realized this months ago, but it didn't dawn on me to look.

Makes it even harder to get nominated when politics is involved, and different types of artists.

We don't have to worry about next year- David Bowie will win album, and record of year, and Adele will win the other awards

Lana's best chance would be as writer, a duet, a movie or short (the Daniel Johnston I believe was released after the eligibility period
this year for both Grammy and possibly Oscar

wait a minute now- how can anyone say the Father John Misty parts w/ LSD was not part of THIS album?

in the song directly before Freak, Lana is specifically saying
"All I want to do is get high by the beach"
and in Freak, Lana is getting "high by the beach" (obviously to have mermaids, they would officially be in the ocean and not a pool (except in a Florida attraction of course
which is sort of kitsch from the same era Lana inhibits anyhow).

and just because people put in WRONG preconceived notions as to what Freak was about or something, it fits in sequence perfect.

matters little if the bits and pieces might have gone elsewhere, they were put together specific FOR Freak.

In film, (Honeymoon is referencing throughout Hollywood) always has hours worth of film cut from the final movie in almost all movies, especially the studio ones of the glory glamour days).

meanwhile, Lana does all the Grammy stuff this entire week, just for the fun of it, it's ironic isn't it. And it's carefree, she looks great, no pressure,
because she isn't in it to win anything, she is there because she wants to. (I am sure no one is forcing her, same as she didn't force the CEO to
get her the nomination like I am sure the others probably have written in stone. (Isn't Lucien behind most if not all the 5 albums up for Grammy's
and Honeymoon too...It doesn't look like it bothers Lana though. She looks so damn happy, finally.  And all the other winners want their selfies
with Lana, and so does Adele...

    How cool is it.

I think it's cool that Lana is using LSD as the drug. How 1940s/1950s/1960s...
even in drugs, Lana is of the times she should have been part of

and it was legal in the US in those days too...Cary Grant famously used it, as did the Beatles

yeah, I don't believe that the video was ever meant to symbolize a cult, and Father John (who Lana had open some shows) already had the connection with Lana
and already has a beard that looks like Jim Morrison, so that comes with Father John
(this video probably in a way helps Father John's record sales far bigger...I would suspect when his next album comes out, it will do far better than it would have, showing yet again, Lana's influence...

the very start with Lana swinging on a tire
Roy Orbison's greatest hit that was never a single, released just when he died "Love So Beautiful" official video starts off the same way
(make sure it's Roy's official video if one seeks it out)

I really wish one day Lana covers that song or perhaps interpolates it with Roy in a "duet"

One needs to hear Love so beautiful and imagine Roy and Lana..."the summer sun went down on our love long ago...
it is so Lanaesque years earlier.

If Lana does Freak in concert, now fans will be aware of the long 12 minute version and she can easily go into the pit with the fans while the later part plays the Clair De Lune part in a loop

possibly even as the finale, like they did with National Anthem on other tours.

So I guess fast forward 18 months, and Honeymoon will be called the greatest ever.

and the new album at the time will be called shit.

    lol

I'll meet you on the flipside. I love Honeymoon and everything about it.

    @@WhiteHydrangea- art takes time
besides, certain people here will just say when is she going to do something the day after the Freak video drops no matter when it is

Was her being in NY significant to the announcement? and if so, is she still in NYC and is that an important question? Is Father John? (btw, off topic- why is it nobody in the media yelled about him having many different names and styles...Fleet Foxes anyone?)

I have thought the same thing...(granted, I am older, but) her music and her musical being (all of it) directly talks to me, and the music I have heard for decades and decades.
All the references she uses, I have known the artists for years, I have seen most of them in concert over the years
Roy Orbison, Nina Simone, The Velvet Underground then Lou Reed, Bowie, Leonard Cohen,  etc.
(even Julee Cruise doing an entire full concert of Lynch years ago)

I think her being for the abused, the outcasts, the yearnings, the ill, the everyperson, is one reason younger fans flock.

I believe her recorded work is specific to Lana Del Rey and the message she herself wants delivered
and the bonus songs, and are never meant to be part of the album (but that does not make them inferior either, just specific bonus).

I also think ALL of her covers are for a reason...it is something in each that she wants people to hear
I think that is one reason there is no bonus stuff with Honeymoon. 100% on message, this is what she wants
the dear listener to take home with them.

and her vision has been there for a while- even Marilyn and Elvis were both abused, and both the media abused each of them
(Elton's Candle in the Wind was just about that topic "All the papers had to say was that Marilyn was found in the nude").

Right before Honeymoon, a cryptic picture showed up on her Instagram  I think, that showed her with wrinkles.
That was showcasing she was dropping out of the younger years, and she had grown up to become a mature woman with mature views.
And she is directly challenging her fans to either "beat it baby" or love her when she is no longer young and beautiful.
To love and support her AS SHE IS, now and in the future, when the future is now

Am I the only one who sees, that, instead of people complaining Art Deco doesn't follow, they seemed to have missed-

Freak directly follows High by the Beach - on Honeymoon, and I keep saying Honeymoon has to be taken as a whole from word one (We) to the end (misunderstood) making the Freak video a perfect seque of the High by the Bech video

btw, as this board seemed to be down for 24 hours, read all the comments on the Vevo and kept trying to picture
who here was writing the negative ones.

    other thought-
Carmen video ending has Satie, and now this uses Debussy

    score- simply perfect.
And it was Lana that was leader, Father John was the follower, not the other way around

Is this eligible for an Oscar in 2017, as it was released in a theatre?

I agree 100%. As I stated in my post, "I don't think it's Lana's fault that some girls have adopted this attitude (I feel like that comment she made was more casual and perhaps a part of her persona, and let's be real, she hasn't dated a guy older than her for years, so she obviously doesn't even live by that statement anyway)"

Although I think parents should be the ones teaching this to their kids, I think it's also important we, as a community, educate them if we see a 12 year-old, for example, saying things like "I want to date an older man!!"

I'm also unsure why young kids would even be listening to Lana to start with. Like, melodically and stylistically, most of her music doesn't even appeal to that demographic... plus, the themes in her music would really have no relevance to young kids/they wouldn't be able to comprehend the topics (abusive relationships, love, sex, money, fame, death, loss, suicide, etc.)
