  1. The video matches the vibes of the song and Lana looks absolutely beautiful. The B-movie idea definitely came to mind during the scenes when Lana was just walking around the house. I love the colours and her outfit in the video. I also agree with those who said Scarface vibes, with the pastel beach scenes and guns. Completely enamoured
  2. Who is in the second from last picture with James in the top row? Is that even from the same shoot?
  3. Obsessed with Wavybone right now (in fact most of ALLA)
  4. I'm so excited for this to be released, I do wonder why it's not coming out til March though? That's so far away, I wonder if they have anything else planned? After James mentioned writing about Lana "for a book" in his V Magazine essay and now this, it makes me wonder whether they would actually make the Sunset Blvd-style film together that Lana envisioned? Not necessarily a feature-length film but maybe something in the style of Tropico involving them both? The cover is beautiful but I'm hoping there will be new, previously unseen photographs inside. I hope James doesn't include any poems, I can't speak on his prose but I don't like his poetry at all
  5. A$AP Rocky ft. Schoolboy Q - Electric Body
  6. Just thought I'd post this here as it's quite an interesting interview with Asif Kapadia, spliced with clips from the film
  7. In the video for Video Games, who is the woman who is surrounded by paparazzi and falls over?
  8. I love hearing Howl read aloud I completely agree that Lana's writing (particularly what we've heard of it in Tropico and Ride) is heavily influenced by Ginsberg and Nabokov, in that her words are both semantically and sonically expressive. I remember reading Lana say that she admired how Ginsberg used words to paint, or something of that nature. I want to see the movie Howl too
  9. Yes!! I keep rewinding to about the 4 minute mark just to hear the beginning of the third chorus
  10. Found this thread just because I was reading Lolita earlier and the line "...that mad year (August 1947 to August 1948)..." made me think of 1949 when Lana sings "we're in the Pontiac from July to July". Of course there are wider similarities between Lana's music and Lolita but actually I would say Off to the Races reminds me more of the film Scarface than Lolita (book or film). I always picture Tony Montana when listening to Off to the Races I would add A Streetcar Named Desire to art similar to Lana's. Blanche's line "I have always depended on the kindness of strangers" is very similar to Lana's "I believe in the kindness of strangers" in the Ride video. I think there are other similarities between the character of Blanche DuBois and the character of Lana Del Rey (in her music, at least). Ride also reminds me a lot of Whitman's Song of the Open Road. I agree with others who have mentioned Breakfast at Tiffany's (Carmen is very similar thematically to Breakfast at Tiffany's), and on the topic of Capote I would recommend In Cold Blood for certain Lana-esque themes following the dark side of the American dream or the underbelly of society. It's so interesting to read about art that is reminiscent to others of Lana's music, would love to see more discussion about this
  11. Off to the Races, This Is What Makes Us Girls, National Anthem, Video Games, American, Cola, Sad Girl, Ultraviolence, Florida Kilos, Pretty When You Cry, Fucked My Way Up To The Top and Is This Happiness. As for AKA and prior, there are sooo many, the ones that come to mind immediately are Pawn Shop Blues, You're Gonna Love Me, Put the Radio On, Television Heaven, Tired of Singing the Blues, Pin-Up Galore, Crooked Cop, Elvis, Your Band is All the Rage, 1949 and For K Part 2.
  12. Ah thank you, hopefully I'll be able to buy it there, but if not I wasn't aware that WHSmith sell it Can't work out how often V Magazine publish, it does seem to be seasonally but they're currently selling a "Fall Preview" issue which doesn't make sense with there being a September issue? I'm sure it will work out, hope to get it either way
  13. I really hope she is on the cover, there are some really beautiful V Magazine covers. Dakota Fanning and Kirsten Dunst's come to mind. Just wondering if any Americans on this board could tell me how early V Magazine comes out over there? I'm from the UK and most magazines here come out a month before the cover date, and I'll be in California from the end of this month to the 10th August. Just wondering if V magazine is likely to be available to buy then Sorry that sounds like a really dumb question now I've written it!
  14. Thank you, I definitely recommend going to see it if you can! My local cinema was showing it for one night only and I'm so glad I managed to see it. It was certainly emotional, desperately sad and somewhat disturbing in places, but also very funny and touching; highlights of the film for me were Amy's Grammy win and her recording with Tony Bennett. I had high hopes for the film coming from Asif Kapadia after seeing Senna a few years ago, and it certainly didn't disappoint.
  15. The chorus is so beautiful, it reminds me a lot of the song Ultraviolence. After the chorus my favourite part is the "Dreaming away your life" ending. Hopefully we'll see the full video for the song soon .
  16. Did anybody go to see this film? I went to see it last week with my sister and it was very beautiful and sad. I was stunned to hear Amy singing one of my favourite songs 'Moon River' in the opening credits, and now can't find a recording or footage anywhere online
