I kind of hate the demo of Beautiful People because of the way it’s mixed. I know it’s supposed to be a rough draft but the vocals have a weird quality to them and the instrumental sounds lifeless. The presentation just makes it hard for me to appreciate the tenderness of the lyrics. It would probably evoke more emotion for me if it was a laptop demo or something.

Wonder if Bird World is gonna make the cut for WHF! Might not even exist as a song but when she mentioned it on the live, it sounded like Jack was about to play something on the piano but stopped himself.

But I’m on the same page about the mixing to be honest. I wish the sound was a bit fuller on NFR and not so hollow on some tracks but it is what it is. Though I feel like the mixing actually works with the musicality of the record this time around though compared to LFL.. LFL has a very muddy sound that doesn’t do much for the sleekness of some tracks. Love being one of the worst offenders. It would’ve been cool if it had a really futuristic, clean sound but Lana really can’t ditch that lo-fi mixing

She literally sang through a sheet of paper on certain LFL songs for “artistic effect.” Including a song that had Stevie Nicks as a feature I feel like that alone trumps any shortcomings from this era like what even was that

LFL is full of fillers and questionable creative decisions but we needed a record like that to appreciate the greatness of NFR, yes we did

Would definitely love for this album to have a “colder” tone to contrast with the warmer sound of NFR.

I just don’t understand why she really even had to make that Joni comparison by using Cinnamon, which isn’t even lyrically strong to begin with I see the point she’s trying to make but it’s just a very weak argument. It’s like saying AKA sucks because the songwriting lacks depth/storytelling then quoting a song like Brite Lites as evidence
