Norman Fucking Rockwell - Pre-Release Thread

That just means the algorithm deduced that Lana’s audience are the same people who listen to these pop girls. If she really were that different from these “demons” then her audience would be completely different from theirs, wouldn’t it?

I don't think so, I know quite a lot of people who like Lana but none of the pop girls who also wonder the same thing. I think platforms fail at truly choosing similar artists, I don't know about you guys but the "recommended for you" playlists are never helpful. At most, I'll find one song I like IF I'm lucky. She has more in common with Halsey and Marina than with, say, Travis Scott or Clams Casino - still that doesn't mean she's similar to Halsey. I wouldn't blame the audience, I think the algorithm just sucks ass. That goes for most artists, too.

“Mom friends”? Wait so now we’re mad that some of her friends are moms? She’s in her 30s, of course she has some friends with kids. Get over it. Also, she’s always had “mom friends”, most were just older than her before. You guys are getting more and more illogical over time.

idk I feel like a friend that is a mother and a Mom Friend are two different things, you know? Life doesn't stop when you have kids but some people take on the role of Suburban Mom and make it their whole life, if that makes sense. Her current crowd these days feel like they're wannabe real housemoms of beverly hills, if that makes sense.

We've gone over that before. JK Rowling never described the Harry Potter series as her autobiography. Lana literally said she writes about her life; things that happened to her personally. Why do we keep on playing dumb here? It's like when people compare her to an actress.

That's true of course. But in light of the quote I was responding to ("Sometimes Lana doesn't know what to say in interviews, so she plays into the idea that her songs are her, and not her creations"), how can we be so sure that she was in fact telling the truth? That was the point of my response to what @@VeniceBambi was saying.

PS.

Maybe you could tone it down a bit, love. It's not so much about "playing dumb", as it was more about me responding to the James Franco bit and her (in)authenticity and I thought that was interesting to discuss. No need to be rude

Dear LanaBoard users,

This is a message from papa Ben to inform you that this has all been a social experiment.

There is no Norman Froggin Roswell, there is no Violets Bent Over in my Ass.

The Lana you have been seeing is a simulation, we actually have no idea where she really is.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Stream Dula Peepa & Ellie Gosling.

Not that very long ago, LDR was celebrating being ‘a wild young thing’ in Southern California on songs like ‘West Coast,’ and I think that is how most of us still perceive her. Some of the songs on HM and LFL cemented that position— she was a ‘freak,’ still on the club scene, walking the beaches ‘with dripping peaches,’ interested in and frustrated by young men.

So it’s hard to adjust to the perception of LDR now being something like a ‘Soccer Mom Without Kids,’ being PC and perhaps even referencing Jesus in a significant manner on MAC (which for many ties directly into Hillsong, accurately or inaccurately; we don’t have enough information to tell).

Tori Amos became another sort of artist after the much-ballyhooed (by Amos) birth of her daughter, and releasing songs like ‘Ribbons Undone.’ A lot of fans felt she lost her edge.

I have nothing against motherhood or parenthood, but I am not quite ready to reimagine or accept LDR as a middle class soccer mom. And you can become like a soccer mom or dad without actually having children, simply by settling into an early middle age, wearing ‘mom’ and ‘dad’ jeans that come up the navel, wearing ’comfortable shoes’ and so on.

That’s why I feel the new album’s cover art will tell us a great deal about who LDR is now, or at least what role she’s playing or where she’s heading. I do not believe she has to appear ‘sexy’ in it, not by any means.

You are ridiculously good with words, do you write at all?

Jesus, it's like you read my mind & explain it so well.  :worship:

Are you talking about Spotify in particular? Because I agree. Their algorithms are trash and the 'related artists' page is inaccurate af.

Does Lana have a new album coming out? This is most definitely new information and I’m most definitely not just trying to forget the past 7-8 months and pretend that this is the first I’ve heard of this so this album rollout (lack thereof) doesn’t seem so excruciating and poorly planned.

I heard she has a few fresh new tracks as well with surf rock vibezzzz. Can’t wait to check ‘em out for what will absolutely be the first time I’ve heard them!!

Hopefully she teases some snippets of new material as well! I wonder what it will all sound like??

Thank you, it’s very kind of you to share that. I am glad we often think alike. I do write professionally in my work, though writing is only a part of what I do. I worked in a Communications unit of a large NYC organization for nine years, still write for another NYC organization now, and enjoy writing at all times.

There’s almost a dichotomy between the record and her social life, I agree. I personally don’t care how she lives her life, i wish her happiness, just as long as the music is as excellent as she served us.

It's a whole new level of sick to wish your favorite artists would stay miserable and/or never stop using, just so you'll get your sad ass music until they OD or kill themselves. It's one thing to joke about it, but some people genuinely mean it and that's fucking disgusting. The Lana I (and most of us) fell in love with was Born To Die Lana. Summertime Sadness, Dark Paradise Lana. That's what drew us in, and even darker albums like UV & HM made us stay. I live for that depressing shit, because I've lived and I'm living that depressing shit. But her happiness will always come first. Give me 2010 Be My Daddy Lana for the rest of my life, I don't care. I like her upbeat pop songs just fine. I don't want people to keep fucking her over, breaking her heart and making her always write about "sad girl shit". I'd rather see her retire completely to enjoy her life with her husband and children than go on suffering.

I'm kinda focused on being a baddie right now. I can't really work.

I have Apple Music & about 2 weeks ago started trying out Spotify in hopes it would be better regarding recommended tracks & artists but unfortunately it's not helpful either  :crossed:  I feel you 100%

It takes her like two months to tease snippets or give news, right? The last snippet is from early April, I hope this means she'll tell us news soon lol. Because I'm not here for more snippets.

On another note, when the poetry book comes out I feel like it won't be as exciting as we initially thought for two reasons.

One reason is that during this era, we've all had this frustration about the lack of communication & when we think we're about to get something: nope! NEW POEM DOLLIES!  :hooker:  Which has made us almost resent her poetry because time & time again, it comes when we least want it.

The next reason being that I feel like we've seen a good amount of the poems already, it won't be as fresh as we'd hoped. If I remember correctly, she said there was 13 poems. I'm not sure about the exact number but skimming through her IG, I see she's posted about 8-10 of them.

I was actually enthused when she first announced it but it's been handled so poorly I just have gone numb.

At this point the word that, I think, best describes how most of us feel is annoyed.

@@ivy (can't quote your post for some reason)

It's frustrating seeing people choose "stanning" over logic all the time. I've made plenty of excuses for her in the past, so I get it to an extent, but I've never seen people reach harder. They will say anything to excuse everything, because Lana can obviously do no wrong. Lana lying? No, she's an actress. A screenwriter, a playwright, an undercover sociologist. It's annoying seeing people go above and beyond with one excuse after the other just so a 35 year old woman won't have to take responsibility for anything in her life.

I agree that what James Franco said was interesting, and worth discussing. I wasn't saying we shouldn't talk about that.
