As well as Nectar Of The Gods and the American Whore part of A&W. That's a general sense of southern gothic for me. Of course, she hasn't dug deep in the sound before in her discography, but I feel like those scratch the surface.

So she's heading down "southern gothic" now

Future Jazz 9,194 Posted October 30 this might be an unpopular opinion, but i'm a believer in just putting out the songs you have, maybe as an EP if there are not enough songs that are good enough. I personally thought Henry Come On sounded magnificent and i can definitely see her version of country having this folksy, delicate sound that i think is extremely moving. her cover of take me home, country roads also had it, it was never going to be yeehaw country, it was going to be melodic as she said. and regardless of how people were going to like it, it was going to be interesting to see her attempt at yet another genre. so while i do agree that it is exciting to see her go down the southern gothic road, i can't say i'm not disappointed that stuff that not only exists and was said to be brilliant by Lana and Jack but was also announced, and that i cared about, is definitely getting shelved and we have to wait like 2 years between her announcement and the album. there's nothing preventing her from putting out those songs that have been in the making since 2021 (!) and moving on to southern gothic for her next project. ocean blvd was already finalized 2 years ago now, and part of lasso apparently was even made before that, so i'm just not a huge fan of the idea of all of that existing work being scrapped. like, those songs exist, they are probably great, we were going to get them and now we're not. so just because she's heading towards southern gothic, which i agree is an interesting direction, doesn't mean there wasn't something great we're losing anyway, she's the one in charge and of course she has every right to do anything she's doing (and to always delay stuff) but i'm not indifferent to the stuff that's getting scrapped and i don't think you can chalk it up to "the final project that's gonna come in 2 years will be good so it's all fine"

She's put out 9 good albums in her career. That only happens when you see a project through the end. This is merely a bump on the road, kind of what like NFR had along the way - and look how well that turned out. Why you rather NFR was half baked or released an EP midway? What you're suggesting sounds to me like quitting or giving up. Also, you're not gonna have to wait two years, it'll come out next year. So, let's chill.

So, let's chill. i'm definitely not suggesting quitting or giving up, rather putting out the stuff that's been in the making for 4 years and that was said to be brilliant by Jack. i'm not indifferent to this stuff being scrapped forever. as i said, i know the final result will be great, i just think the stuff that's getting shelved was likely to be great too and that "half-baked" or "half-cooked" isn't quite the right word to describe something that had been in the making for 4 years if she's not sure where it's going and wants to change the direction, which is what she said a couple of days ago, i think it's unrealistic to think it's coming within the next 12 months. she made it clear she isn't sure where it's going, which means most of the songs aren't written yet, then they're going to get reworked, they'll have to master the whole thing, and then there's the usual 4-5 months of pressing vinyls. take ocean blvd, it took six months between the time the last song on it was recorded and the time it came out given what she said the other day (not knowing where it was even going), i don't think it can come out before at least september 2025, so yeah to be honest i kind of wish she had just put out whatever was already ready a couple of months ago. that's only my opinion though, and i'm sure the album will be great in any case !
