this is what i was talking about earlier but this person explained more, and the album ending with VB really does feel like she’s saying goodbye to this “era”

But its not a matter of being thematically superior or inferior. I'm not the biggest fan of BTD's lyrics in terms of how much affinity I can develop towards them, but they are undoubtedly precise and effective at pursuing their purpose: to depict the opulence and grandiosity of north american elite's dynamics and a certain way to experience relationships which, even if controversial, was and is absolutely real for many, many people.

It isnt less true, anyway, that time and artistical growth has helped Lana to find a new quite critique and nuanced way to approach to that same reality and that she isn't anymore canonising it, but making it accountable for its uncountable flaws and problematics -many of which she has found herself to be a victim of, or at least to have been exposed to them and their toxicity-.

There's nothing wrong with pointing at how Lana's sight is now quite more broad, rich and wide than it was at her beginnings. If anything, it is a compliment aimed at an artist that has fought hard to evolve and to become who she is nowadays.

or maybe we just recognize her versatility and are happy to get a variety of different sounds from her

idk about that. for free is very clearly a folk song not a country song. let me love you like a woman is nowhere even close to country and not even really folk either, more of like a power ballad. and dance til we die i guess the bridge does have some americana grateful dead vibes but i wouldn't exactly call that country and the rest of the song doesn't come close to country either. breaking up slowly still appears to be the only country song. the album is much more folk-adjacent but even still lots of songs aren't folk either, just mellow.

Scrapping Candy Necklace on the day the video was nominated for two VMAs after she was just telling everyone to go watch it is kind of hilarious

I'd really love LDR10 to lyrically and sonically sound like Coachella and have features like Nikki Lane and Stevie Nicks again. A return to craft if you will. Coachella is really underrated and I think a folk melody with harder trap beats would sound very nice with Nikki and Stevie's husky smoker rasps. AND Lana's songs like Coachella with her deepest and most well-thought-out messages are always amongst her best IMO

i also don’t see the whole “the last few tracks reflect the next album” thing. this has been only accurate for lfl - nfr - cocc so it’s not a sustainable theory. how is this is what makes us girls and without you like ultraviolence? how is guns and roses and florida kilos like honeymoon? how is 24 and swan song like lust for life? maybe there’s a connection between sweet carolina & the grants, but sweet carolina definitely does not reflect a&w, let the light in, candy necklace, peppers, etc. overall we really don’t know what to expect until lana teases something or insiders start spilling. as of now we have almost no info except that jack will be a producer. we don’t even know if what she recorded in the alabama studio is for ldr10 or a different project.

What I meant was she’s more acclaimed and well known, authenticated by her peers, with born to die she was criticised too much and nobody was really sure of her.  Todays she’s much more well known and has 9 albums….that’s what I mean by big artist.

I actually disagree with this take, Candy Necklace is, I think, her most unique panio-driven song. It has that "weird" (I use that term positively) and cinematic vibe that's been absent on her past few albums. I would take more of that energy on future records.

i'm sorry but what does it even mean to "experience" a song?  honestly i don't see how that's any different to relating to or understand a song or it's message, men can most definitely relate to lana's music and even understand some of the experiences she's talking about, especially since she's talked about so many different topics in her music, and her music can be interpreted in many different ways, honestly it just seems like this person is just saying a bunch of fake-deep nonsense about men/women, also, i can't really take her stance about women and how they feel represented by lana's music seriously when she's referring to people as hurtful terms for women such as "cunts" and "hoes"

yeah, norman fucking rockwell literally has the same chords for love song, happiness is a butterfly, california… not to mention the lyrics are really not that great in comparison to all that followed and the vocals not that great in comparison to all that came before. to me it’s her most uninspired record even though i still think it’s good because it’s Lana and there are some great songs
chemtrails is a lot more humble and unique in my opinion

Congrats, @Elle! Stereogum posted another snippet from nearby. They show off the delightful choreography . . . The audience cheered when the dancers formed a steeple . . .
    Enjoy!

Sorry I love Lana but that’s not “cute and quirky” that’s straight up being an asshole. Her fans are young and most of them are splurging a lot to be able to go see her live. If she doesn’t want to be there, she should’ve made that clear before taking money outta their pockets.

Give it a rest, I'm saying she's generally unbothered by the industry's standards and whatnot--which is both a good and bad thing. But as far as her shows & professional endeavours, she should just show up on time and give fans the show they paid and waited all day for. Random/last minute stuff can derail a schedule, but it's the third show in a row where she shows up way past her set time, that's no longer an excuse and it's seriously off.

She gave a great performance, but it was shorter than it should've been. End of story. Goodnight!

I definitely agree with @Vertimus: this album is not the social commentary people paint it to be. It’s all about her own life and it can be interpreted in relationship to modern-day society, just like any other album she made can be. There are a few references to the end of the world, but that’s really not enough to make it what it is considered to be. I think even if you tried, it’d very hard to point out even just a few “points” she makes in this album about society. The quality of the album is another question, I personally really like it

I accept that may be the concept, but for me, if that is the concept, then it fails in its goal almost completely. What does 'Love Song' have to do with that? Or 'How To Disappear'?

On the previous album, LFL , despite a few silly tracks, we had direct political commentary in 'WTWWAWWKOD' and subtler social, or social-political, commentary on 'Change,' 'God Bless AMERICA,' 'Heroin' and 'Get Free,' and references to many aspects of American life, past and present, on '13 Beaches,' 'Love,' 'White Mustang,' 'Summer Bummer,' 'Heroin,' and 'Tomorrow Never Came.'

What happened with NFR! is that some influential internet critic said, "The entire album is a kind of metaphor for an America in decline," which she or he did not say, as it happens, about LFL, and that sounded really astute to a lot of people, who all began repeating it everywhere, until it became the general consensus whether it actually reflected the individual's own impressions of the album or not.

In this age of the internet, we see this happening again and again, this bandwagon-jumping, like "'Blue' is Joni Mitchell's masterpiece." People who don't know the first thing about Mitchell's 70s work will repeat that--and do repeat it---because it makes them feel in-the-know and part of a movement, however small in the scheme of things. And then, having repeated it a few times, they actually buy a copy and listen to it for the first time, and never bother with any of her other brilliant 70s work, besides which 'Blue' pales.

It's fine to see it as the album of a "woman with a weak constitution," but she also had a weak constitution on '13 Beaches,' 'White Mustang,' 'The Blackest Day,' 'God Knows I Tried,' 'Swan Song,' 'Pretty When You Cry,' 'Ride,' and several from 'BTD.'

Don't underestimate the power of 'group think' or 'the hive mind.' We see this every day in our own lives, like, someone asks you where you would like to go for dinner with the rest of the group, and you are the kind of person that immediately says, "Well, where does everyone else want to go? What are others thinking?"

It's just a very extroverted way of thinking, there's nothing wrong with it.

but where do you see the educated nature of her point of view on nfr? i’m genuinely asking because i can’t see it
