What do you think could've happened? Like eight months ago she announced it. It seems like she's been working on it for a long time... What are the theories?

Having the track list doesn’t equal having the album! They didn’t have the album and they absolutely didn’t hear BBS if even BOZ hadn’t heard it yet 

 

that said, there is not a single reliable insider spilling right now. Every single ‘inside info’ we’ve gotten is FAKE. (Minus the insider who spilled about Tough)

My theory is things changed after (another) Grammy snub. She maybe wrote some new material she wanted to include on the album and the overall vision just shifted. I don’t think it’s even done yet tbh but that’s just my hunch based off nothing

She probably didn't fully like the end result/enough songs for the album and while she was writing and recording the most recent tracks she found a new concept or sound she preferred for the upcoming record.

 

She said a couple of times that the new songs are less personal and revealing but maybe some of the older tracks were still a bit too BB/Ocean (in writing/themes) and she decided to remove those as well in favor or lighter stuff.

 

She always changes her albums a lot from the first concept to the finished thing so this was bound to happen for a 4 year timeline album I guess

I'm pretty sure that she has changed the concept of it ten times already if she has been making it for 4 years. And I'm also pretty sure that she will change it im the future too, last minute or so.
