Can someone explain why is her headdress in the ride video offensive ? I listened to some people before but I never understood why it is offensive Cultural appropriation maybe ?

Well, was it really her idea to wear the headdress? I'm not making excuses, but just saying maybe it was someone's else's idea for the video, maybe the directors? Either way it's still wrong, but cultural appropriation wasn't exactly at the forefront of everybody's mind back when the vid came out like nowadays so maybe she didn't think anything wrong of it.

A head dress? Really? That's a reach.

 

It's offensive. Get over it. Not only is it offensive to the men that earned and died for them but it's war valor, and since 2013 it's illegal to use war valor on such a manor.

 

Would you guys be fucked off if she wore a pair of Elizabeth Crosses or Purple Hearts as earrings? Hell yeah, because it's war valor, not a stylish accessory. People die. It's not fashion. After working on reservations she should have known better, that's a fact.

 

/not trying to attack anyone just mentioning it is actually a pretty major thing we can't sweep under the rug.

It's just sort of culturally insensitive because, Indian reservations tend to have really bad conditions (although there are many exceptions) and the poverty rates are higher and quality of life lower for native Americans. Yet pop culture icons take things like the native headdress and wear them as a fashion item, and get all this attention for being so cool and trendy. But it may be sort of upsetting for a Native American because in their culture the headdress is something sacred  that should be earned so. It's a mix of it being a double standard that pop culture takes elements of minority culture, yet they still end up on the crappier side of society. And also the fact that it's sort of insensitive to native cultures/customes. 

 

obviously these type of things aren't meant to be intentionally insensitive or harmful but I think it says something interesting about how societies are. 

 

Anyway glad to know she's a bit more woke now
