If she overdoses before age 40 she'll be one for sure.

Never thought about Carmen as in Sternwood until you just pointed that out.
I thought by Carmen she got the name from the opera? But that makes sense also.

    Okay, here's my unpopular opinion.

"Carmen" is the best song on Born to Die. If it wasn't for that song I probably wouldn't love Lana as much as I do right now. When I first heard that song, it gave me chills and the image of Felix Cane slowly dropping down the pole as Lana says, "Darlin' Darlin' Doesn't have a problem" is permanently embedded into my mind. "Carmen" is genius lyrically, proudction wise, and the music video is flawless. It's a brilliant song. I've read tons of comments on Tumblr, Twitter, and YouTube and other websites that just really hate "Carmen" and wish it was kicked off of Born to Die, I could never picture that. "Carmen" just brings me into a David Lynch film, Laura Palmer's secret life, and even the production screams David Lynch for Twin Peaks and Blue Velvet. It's the one song from Lana that honestly blows me away every time I listen to it. I've replayed it nearly 800 times on my iTunes since I first heard it in May and just can't get enough. It's the one song off Born to Die I relate to, not because I'm a druggie or wild child, but it really experiments with the idea that everybody looks fine on the outside but really is crumbling apart early on in their lives.

It's just my view, "Carmen" will always be the song that saved Born to Die for me. Born to Die and Video Games took me over a month to get into.

What if Carmen's about a cat?
A lonely cat, walking the streets so mean at night, staying up till morning, and all the boys and all the girls love Carmen the Cat because cats are cute, but Carmen the Cat has a tougher life than presumed.

Carmen is a metaphor for a cat.
    Poking holes in YOUR logic.

I love watching clips from Black Swan to help me think creatively, it's so helpful. The intensity of Portman's performance really just sends chills down my spine EVERY TIME I WATCH IT!!!

I also adore the trailer. BTW, anyone notice at the Academy Awards that the spot they showed for Black Swan used Goblin's iconic score for Suspiria?

Lucky Ones is a song I could see as (if it weren't released on BTD) being a Lana leak that nobody cared about after a while.

@ELLEUK What film directors have inspired the cinematic sound of your art the most? #asklana

@ELLEUK Are there any films in particular that have had a huge influence on your art throughout your career? #asklana

I'm hoping she'll answer one of those. I know she loves David Lynch, the Godfather movies, and the American Beauty soundtrack but I want MORE ANSWERS LANA MY CINEMATIC SOULMATE.

I don't understand feminism to be honest. I googled the definition and I'm confused since it's not what all these social justice blogs on Tumblr make it out to be. I guess I'm missing a piece of the puzzle. I don't see anything anti-feminist with Lana being submissive since it's her choice. And isn't that what counts? It's her choice.

I totally agree Mafiosi. American though, I like it for the wrong reasons I guess. Bel Air slays all though. I'm pumped to get a good quality version of Bel Air in full, I'll be playing it 24/7. It's so dark and beautiful.

Lana's songs in general aren't too in your face with the sex references I think, they're more just... nicely put there, not out of place or uncomfortable.

I'm not sure whether I like the "fucked hard" line in Gods & Monsters or not. It could be a release of the underlying sexual tension in the song, since she is an "angel in the garden of evil." It gives me a more roughed up Picnic at Hanging Rock or Repulsion vibe. Mysterious. I might like it a lot more depending on how the full version is.

My opinions on this album are a hot mess, sorry guys. I'm just confused on where I stand with these snippets. I'm convinced I like American in a campy sort of "I know the lyrics suck but they suck so badly they're just fun" way.

Also Cola, the chorus sounds fun, but i'm not sure about the rest of the song. But I don't think this will be remotely as good as BTD. After all, it's the "afterthought" so I don't really predict it to live up to BTD.

I guess I'll have to suffer these next 20 days with indecisive opinions and Lanapolar disorder until I can finally make a decision on whether this is my cup of chocolate milk or not.

The lyrics to Bel-Air are great. This will be the standout track of the album no doubt.

YES, I would love to see the Herrmann / Hitchcock feud over the soundtrack for Psycho.
