I know when she was asked about why she changed her name to Lana Del Rey, she said she drew inspiration when in Florida with her sister. Could she have met K there? Florida has the death penalty.

I always interpreted this as meaning K's original maximum sentence was 30 years, not that he had been in prison that long. And for the record, she was about 20 or 21 at the time since Sirens was recorded in 2005 or 2006.

What makes you think it would have to be California?

I'm pretty sure LYE is about Jimmy. Because of the alcoholism and the "I can never be what you wanted". Jimmy's girlfirned committed suicide in 2002 which really sent him into a depression, he didn't even make music anymore, maybe Lana was his rebound.

I'm not sure about Velvet Crowbar, it does reference alcoholism but also "golden grill[z]" which doesn't fit Jimmy at all (maybe K?).

I think BTTB is about Mike, we know she was with him during her trailer park era and the "wearing them ASICS and gold" line fits her style from some of the photos of the two. I think the "I can speak Spanish, you can sing for the neighbours, you've been pretty stupid ever since you got famous" line is from Mike's perspective. She is obviously a singer and she's famous now. She answers him with: "Uh-oh, uh-oh, wrong side of the tracks, boy. Uh-oh, uh-oh, if only we'd go back, boy"

I guess I just thought she was using the cheerleading thing as, like, a hook. But it's possible...however, other elements of jealousy in her songs:
    - She's Not Me, a Mike song
    - Lift Your Eyes, a probable Jimmy song (we'll come back to that), in Shoulda let me know that you still thinking about her.

As for Lift Your Eyes being a Jimmy song, I actually want some of your opinions on this. I think LYE, Velvet Crowbar, and Back to tha Basics are all tied together with references of alcoholism--shoulda let me know I'd lose you to the drink vs. you were afflicted by booze vs. back to the basics, when you're not wasted. It's just a matter of who these three are about. People have already theorized BTTB is about Jimmy because he's, well, the only famous boyfriend. Her famous boyfriend who couldn't be responsible so she let him go in the name of higher consciousness. All well and good until you see these lyrics in LYE: shoulda let me know that you worked around the clock. Which links to Noir's Papi is a workaholic. Nothing suggests Mike was an alcoholic, though. God forbid Noir is actually about Jimmy.

Something stuck me today: Jealous Girl could possibly be about her teacher, but maybe about their downfall?
    Here's my analysis:

    Conclusion
This song has obvious elements of schoolgirl love. She sings about jealousy, revenge, and.. cheerleading? Whether it is written about a teacher or not, that's up for you to decide! As this is my first formal Lanalysis, I'd love feedback. I'm new to this analyzing thing and I'm not sure if my theories and opinions are even relevant, haha. Thanks for reading anyway!

I think the title "part 2" could actually be because its another chapter. She's fallen in love with another guy the same way she fell in love with K?

so many awesome theories and brilliant connections, TPD!
i like the idea of some song(s) possibly being about jeff buckley...or maybe combining jeff with K, for example? perhaps some of the songs about her dead lover are about him? i had never thought of this

something random and unrelated, or not, is that "gods and monsters" is, coincidentally, the name of the first band that jeff buckley had (with gary lucas) when he first moved from CA to NYC

edit: i also think you've discovered that arthur's role in lizzy's life may have been bigger than all of us "lanalysts" had thought!

Get Drunk & Motel 6 (Studio) stream of consciousness

I'm thinking that Motel 6 is about Arthur Lynn.. like someone mentioned before. Baby, you can buy me Diet Mt Dew; in the spotlight we see Jim & Chuck.. thinking more and more that Lizzy was originally with Arthur but Jimmy caught her eye..

However, Diet Mt Dew + Greenwich + Motel 6 are all probably about the same person, and I was thinking Greenwich + Diet Mt Dew were about Mike, given that Lana talked about making a trip to Greenwich on her FB around the time she was with Mike and when the song may have been written.

Aw, shit. Edit: Just found a location on Arthur in Greenwich, CT!!
And then who is Bill that Arthur referenced in his blog (entitled Diet Mt Dew)? Is it possible that Jimmy was actually dating Chuck and Lana just thought he was hot? (This doesn't seem as likely in my opinion- for some reason I picture Chuck going for a square guy) I don't know if I believe Reeve and Lizzy were anything more than a friendship, either.

Then there is also "Get Drunk"... which friendship is this about?? Nick Fowler & Arthur Lynn, Arthur Lynn & Jimmy Gnecco, or Jimmy Gnecco & Reeve?  Possibly Chuck & Lizzy?  (Long shot but Reeve and Chuck are still pretty close- maybe Lizzy slept with Reeve/Jimmy to Chuck's dismay?)  Or none of the above?  Personally, I think it is about Nick and Arthur.. especially if "A Star for Nick" is really entitled that (who knows?) .. sort of gives the idea that someone got her into dark things, and she knew he was never going to help her get where she wanted.  Also, the way I found those pictures of Lana pre-nose job was on Nick's site.. and he still keeps them up. Seems kind of strange, given that Lana has consciously tried to keep these kinds of things from surfacing. It's under an album called "Lana Del Rey.. when she was still called Lizzy Grant" .. kind of seems like he's not coming from a nice place with that.
Arthur (pictured below) has had nothing but nice things to say about Lana (is that Jimmy on Lizzy's hat? Or Nick? So many broody musicians) since.  Can't forget that some of Lana's inspirations were also in Arthur's pictures i.e. Diamond Dave, Axl Rose, Bruce Springsteen, Elvis, and even Britney Spears. Def. think that's the guy Lana was talking about who showed her about music.. if she didn't have a TV in the home, I guess she'd need somebody 2 educate her. (Not to mention he has a million Americana/flag pics) Too many possibilities but I find it all very interesting. We are the sum of our experiences and the people we meet.

Arthur's listed interests on one site: music, girls, guitars, america, diet mountain dew, van halen, ice cream, photography, jersey, angiescreams, indian summer, woods, food, freckles, the sun, the moon, seasons, amplifiers, family, friends, karma, october, yo mama, yo mama's apple pie, and those little people we call doggies

Still wondering if any songs could be about Jeff Buckley, since her, Jimmy, and Reeve all love(d) his music, Jimmy was his friend before he died, and Reeve is/was supposed to play him in a biopic, etc etc.. sigh.

Could "Ray" be Ray Gillen? Too Lazy to go look up lyrics to Mermaid Motel but it kinda fits Diamond Dave and Ray Gillen  We all know how Lana loves her dead musicians. (Who doesn't?)  And he was in Arthur's inspirational pictures, as well.  I will also note that Ray was part of a super group called "Phenomena", which is where (I think) the name Lizzy+ the Phenomena came from. Lana also had Ray Gillen's fan site as her top friends on many of her Myspace accounts. (Lana and Arthur actually have the same top celebrity friends..)

I can see her singing to these guys in her songs.. kinda like RAY RAISE ME UP, help me out here!!

I always thought For K Part 2 was about Jimmy, because she's obviously referring to a musician (it could be Reeve, but it's less likely imo): "I like your music" and the "Use that voice, sing that song". You could say that in Sirens' Westbound she sings "You like to write about all of your problems/Put them in songs because you think it would solve them", implying that K (if it's about him) was also a musician, but the following line from Part 2 makes me discard that it's about him: the "Alright you got me, I don't play a good guitar" I think relates to her feelings of inadequacy at first ("like a groupie incognito posing as a real singer"), which would match her New York open mic nights and first shows, making this a Jimmy era composition. She was indeed electrified by him, especially in her starstruck beginnings
I know: so much speculation! but that's what we're left to do, become little Sherlocks and take bits and pieces of what we know and deduce away!

I always figure "I don't know how you convince them and get them" refers to his other lovers. She's willingly in a non-exclusive relationship, and she keeps assuring him that she's okay with it. In some live performances of "MDM," she emphasizes, "I'm fine, and I'm ready to go!" So why is her heart broke?

I could be way off base. But it reminds me very strongly of "Last Girl on Earth":
    Baby's got a broken heart
She can't belong to only one
    Until another girl is found...
...My feet don't even touch the ground

She chooses to live freely because it's less heartbreaking for her than short-lived monogamy. She's throwing off the cultural role of female as Keeper of the Purity/of the Relationship, in an if-you-can't-beat-them-join-them sort of way. (Perhaps as modeled by the man in "Butterflies Part 2," who's "so happy that his feet don't even touch the ground"?) But she's pretending. ("Pretend I’m happy, living all the world without love.")

She wants to find love, but she keeps reminding herself to "trust no one." This is why I'm not sure it even matters who is the guy from Sirens and/or "Pawn Shop Blues," and/or the rest of her catalog. "No man can keep me together, been broken since I was born."

    (I'll show myself out now.)

Okay cool I'm willing to accept these. Don't know how I could missed that BBW stuff in all my listens of that song

As for Million Dollar Man, I think it does apply to K now that I really consider it, but for different reason than you pointed out. Doing things for the money = K all day. And the bit about convincing, I think that's just him being magnetic and electric again, like the NA monologue.

I think Pretty Baby is about Jimmy. I feel like she's mostly sung about ~violent love~ in songs about Jimmy.

Moije Joue is just about seducing some guy imo.

    She's fucking delicious.

Thank you for this, was able to do some searching:

  15. cheaptrailertrashglm liked a post in a topic by slang in Lana Del Rey: What does not kill you makes you weaker (interview)
So if something DOES kill you, does that make you stronger? The only sense I can make out of that would be it makes you stronger if it forces you to reinvent yourself (May-->Lizzy-->Lana). Still I wish all her inventions were out there taking hits in the pop music scene (even if the painful kind). It could only make pop music stronger.

I think Lana's fanbase is actually growing on her earlier works on youtube, so it perplexes me she seems down on them. May Jailer was never attempted commercially, and Lizzy Grant was kind of mismanaged and aborted commercially. So I wish the words "unsuccessful" and "failure" could be qualified or probed a little more in these interviews to get a sense of what happened. Can anybody really know how much AKA Lizzy Grant would have sold if it hadn't been pulled? The article also doesn't ask about the intentions for the leaks/unreleased, which is another mystery, but may imply most interviewers don't know about them? Still a good article, though.

Canal+ website don't have the replay of the show so I did some google research but their show's name is so f*cking random... I've found interviews of the others artist but not of Lana FML. I'll try to look if someone recorded the whole thing on french torrents site. I guess she didn't say a lot of relevant things otherwise it'll still be online somewhere or we would have articles that talk about it. Anyway, my research ended on this "live" video of Kinda Outta Luck which is pretty cool lol :

OMG a few months ago my fat friend and i were driving around town and we hear VG blaring out of someones car, such a random song to play so loud with your windows down. Anyway, we pulled up next to the car at the traffic lights and it was these two Latino thugs, all tattoo'd up, wearing gold chains, listening to this slow dreamy ballad, my friend and i were like

There are a couple of songs in the other 2 albums that I really cannot listen to, but I can easily put Sirens on shuffle and not feel the need to skip. They do kind of sound similar, but they're all so amazing and relaxing..
