Re: Steven Mertens, I can't remember if someone has found this yet. Interview with Spacecamp, which Mertens played bass/vocals in
SPACECAMP: Ok this is an awesome question. You know that girl Lana Del Ray? She has about 6,455,290,001 hits on Youtube with her song "Video Games." Well, we were her back up band once cuz her and Steven used to make-out sometimes, for like a year. Well, turns out it wasn't him, it wasn't him, it wasn't all for him cuz she wanted to make-out with someone else one week. I mean look at her. If you had those lips you would want to press them up against a lot of stuff. I would too. So one day Steven comes to practice and tells us he's a bit down cuz he's wondering where she and her mouth had gone off to the night before. I told him he didn't want to know. He agreed and we all started laughing and jamming and we wrote that African influenced song Alibi about Lana and Steven. They're friends now and laugh and joke about where their lips have been.
JK, it's about our friend Lizzy who is a friend of Carly's. She's been looking for an apartment for about three years and her parents are starting to get worried. So we wrote a song for her parents.

"I was kind of a night owl and just walked around and met weird people. That was me picking up life experiences and meshing them into my own. That really did it for me."
i think that quote kinda confirms that some of this could be fictional and she's just writing off the experiences of the people that she met.
but i still believe K is real

Come on, Lana - you are a songwriting machine if there ever was one. Plus, I'll buy your next record the day it comes out, and I don't care what's on it.
That said, I'm getting the vibe from this interview she has to produce another record, sooner rather than later. I hope I'm wrong about that because even a great songwriter like Lana Del Rey can't pull music out of the air on demand. She has to have time to wait for the spark. I hope she doesn't have to rush, but just her average songs meshed with her wonderful voice will keep her relevant for a long time.

she sounds p sad in this. i don't think she likes touring, it's all work and she doesn't get to "live". and the songs were from rick's page, it's not like someone hacked her and leaked the songs, rick's the one responsible for the songs leaking imo. did anyone notice how she didn't mention emile haynie? let's pray 4 a lou reed collab & a david kahne comeback. i'd rly prefer for her to keep writing her own songs tho

Am I the only one that feels slightly sad about the dance remix version becoming so popular? Lots of people I know can't believe I like her after first hearing the track, and I find myself wanting to say, she's so much better than this. Of course, it's great that she's getting more recognition, but on the radio, they actually said this morning that Lana's single Summertime Sadness had "just come out", which isn't true at all obviously. The dance remix one is just a sped up version of about a third of the lyrics, with a dance beat behind. Shouldn't she be known for Carmen, Radio, Dark Paradise, Gods and Monsters, Without You etc. (trying to think of less known songs of hers). They're just such amazing songs! I hope she doesn't become to mainstream and gets ruined

i can say from experience that when you are sitting next to a man you may possibly love while he just plays video games and you just sit there and think fuck, this is how she felt when she wrote the song, the song really makes a lot more sense. it's about helplessness and finding freedom in simplicity and humility. it's also beautiful poetry. the combination of images is unique and stirring.

My personal theory regarding the Southern culture/voodoo references is inspiration by way of spring/summer breaks in Pensacola, FL (not too far from Alabama), supplemented by more substantial travel and perhaps a Sookie Stackhouse novel or seven. But what do I know
