I'm so glad Francis Conroy is back. Each & every character she has played on AHS has been so fucking eccentric & layered. I think she deserves as much acclaim as Jessica Lange but always remains under-appreciated. The first time I saw her on TV was as 'the crazy cat lady' in catwoman when I was very young & I never forgot that.

I think she's talking about the hippie-mindset of the people. She is pretty aware of of the conditions that were in that age so I don't think she would romanticise it without knowing the facts or that she lacks social education (like someone said above). I'm saying this because during an interview in the Born to Die era she said that she always keeps a copy of the poem 'Howl' in her wallet & it was this poem that taught her how to create breathing imagery out of words. (For those who don't know, 'Howl' is a beat poem about the bombing & war in America & how the suffering artists tried to solace & peace in art, drugs & love without letting the hate guide them) She's not just a dumb starlet y'all. This woman has a vision.
