Honeymoon vs. Fine China

I love all her covers tbh! But if I had to pick the most “iconic” one, I’d probably go with Chelsea Hotel #2. She embodies that one so well and you can hear the ache and melancholy in her voice when she sings that one both live and in the studio version. I think she’s pretty discerning of what songs to cover because lyrically they are always in line with her writing style and she truly feels the emotions of the original artist. The Other Woman sums up UV perfectly and her vocal delivery is not only extremely pleasing to the ear but also does a good job of “word-painting” - it enhances the lyrical content perfectly. Some Things Last a Long Time is also gorgeous and there’s a roughness and innocence to it that some of her other covers don’t have that make it feel super authentic (although Lana is always that!) <3

I think this might end up getting the Violet treatment. I feel like it’s going to come a few months after COTCC with a proper vinyl/cassette/CD/digital release (that is, if it still doesn’t come before COTCC). I don’t think anyone was expecting Violet to be pushed as a major release until she launched the pre-order in July, so I expect the delay of this record to result in something similar!

That’s true, Summertime the Gershwin Version was released in the middle of the day and it’s most likely from this project so I could see it coming out sometime in the middle of the day tomorrow as well!

I was at home sitting in my living room and already on IG when I got the notif! I saw the thumbnail of the notif with “LANA DEL REY” in the pink font and knew it was the COTCC teaser! Where were you when Lana posted the NFR announcement on July 31, 2019?

Yes! Although, some artists will launch a pre-order and the date will say TBD, but Lana’s pre-orders have always come with an official announcement of the date.

I think she did stay true to her word. One of the backing vocalists even posted a selfie in Conway Studios with a caption about how amazing it was working with Lana “over the week” after Summertime had already been released, so they definitely recorded this project. Plus, Lana even said to Q Magazine regarding Pacific Blue that her and her musician friends “could probably do that album in a week” so I’m sure this covers record is done and will come this week!

I think she will deliver this record like Santa would deliver presents, to keep with the theme of this being a “Christmas present” to us. I imagine it’ll be a super quick announcement on the morning of the 24th and then it arrives at midnight!

Since we know Lana will heavily feature the lovely background vocalists on this record, I hope the sonic landscape of the records sounds like this! I can totally hear this sound in Summertime the Gershwin Version and Zach Dawes even posted a picture of a cello to his Instagram stories - he even played it in the live performance of LMLYLAW on Fallon. If there's any opportunity for Lana to delve more into that '50s/'60s doo-wop sound, it's definitely with this record! I love the downtempo version of this song compared to the album version (although I love that one too) and the slow & sultry moodiness of it all is just so Lana!
