Many will laugh it off, yes. But in my experience, people hold to belief systems in greater and lesser degrees. There are people on the fence who can be emboldened to stand for justice if they have the dots connected for them, if they are given a vocabulary in which to discuss and think about the issues, etc. Then there are the people next to the people on the fence, who can be encouraged to come closer to the fence if they see someone who was silent suddenly taking a stand... It's excruciatingly slow. But I believe if more people speak up about these things, it will make a difference in the long run.

No. WAY!!! I am the biggest Badlands/Ray Gillen fan, and I never suspected he could have inspired the Ray references. Although in Mermaid Motel she says "...and Ray Lee" so probably not... unless she's conflating Ray Gillen and Jake E. Lee? Either way, wow! (good grief now I'm doing it too )

She wants to find love, but she keeps reminding herself to "trust no one." This is why I'm not sure it even matters who is the guy from Sirens and/or "Pawn Shop Blues," and/or the rest of her catalog. "No man can keep me together, been broken since I was born." I never heard "Yale" before watching the live video, but now I hear it in the studio version too. It's definitely "Tommy with his tattoo-ed ass feature" (not sure of the words immediately before that, but I think "Come on little"). Also definitely "p-p-Pepsi." The first vowel is not "ah" or a short "o" like in vodka. If anything it's a short "a" (like in Pabst ).

Thanks for explaining, PCF. Your previous history on LanaBoards has shown that you are a generally nice person, and I suspected you weren't trying to offend anyone. The world is changing (like it always has), and globalization is creating new opportunities for many people.
