They spend all day trashing a woman they've never met to prove they're smart and they call her a bore?

Also Some others critisised her for only wanting to talk about herself. What a pathetic attempt at hate. I mean at least the others put some effort into their hate, it's an interview you dumbass she's answering the journalists questions.

I swear to God sometimes we're the only sane people left on earth.

Ha. "People". That is impressive vagueness. But I don't really care. I'm just glad she's finally acknowledging it. But this makes me suspect Brian Hiatt's been reading our forum even more. "Shaving off". I've used that phrase to describe this at least once.

I think she's probably conflating a couple things here. Both Gaga and Lana played consecutive new writer showcases at the Cutting Room put on by the Songwriter's Hall of Fame (SHOF) which Bob Leone worked for as Projects Director. The Monday night lineups she's referring to were probably Monday night open mics at Makor that were also put on by the SHOF. You can see more about those gigs in the "Early Shows" section.

    Regarding Axl Rose:

Wow. It's truly fascinating that one of the most subtly written portrayals of a problematic relationship in modern pop music may be accidental, the writer not self-conscious of it.

    Paging @@FormerLanaFan.

I would love a Buzzfeed-style "Cunt-ries of the World" map of what Barrie imagines each nation's delicacies taste like.

She sheds more light on her relationship with a record label exec:
It's almost like she wants us to figure it out.

Who knew dry-humping jokes were the way to a woman's heart? (Skip to 3:46.)

Yo, Franco, I'm really happy for you, I'ma let you finish... but Barrie-James was one of the best boyfriends of all time. One of the best of all time!

Oh definitely. The questions are so invasive too like where do you get the right to ask her about some stupid theory that she was in a relationship with her teacher? I just don't get it. It's honestly disrespectful. People seem to think they're entitled to dig so deep into Lana's personal life and it's gross.

I love the part she said here which is so fucking true:

"I find the nature of the questions difficult. 'Cause it's not like I'm a rock band and you're asking how everything got made and what it's like touring in arenas and what are the girls like. It's about my father. It's about my mental health. It's fucking personal."

"Venus in Furs" by the Velvet Underground (it's so dark and cinematic and sexy and the instrumental is already perfect for her), "House of the Rising Sun," and in a sick way I want her to sing Leonard Cohen's very over-covered "Hallelujah."

everything is so slow :/ i don't understand why she is going in this direction when her best songs are upbeat. could have thrown a couple in there to break up the monotony at least. maybe some will have tempo changes.

but i'm not giving up hope yet bcos i really wasn't into the brooklyn baby snippet and the full song is just

But why do I feel like this song is just going to be like Lucky Ones and never get sung live..... I wish she would, it would be excellent.

I think Lana is doing this because I remember reading somewhere that Lana had to cut down on the songs on Ultraviolence. I think this is Lana's way of giving us all of the songs that she wanted. I mean, Interscope probably doesn't want her to do a 16 song album (or more, if she gives us any more surprises. *crosses fingers*) because I *think* it's typically in contracts how big albums will be, but they probably wouldn't mind letting have exclusive tracks. They know that hardcore fans will buy multiple copies to have every song, if they have the money.

TBH, I like all the tracks we've heard so far.

I love the production and tempo changes of West Coast and Shades of Cool, and the psychedelic guitar accompanied by her ad-libbing/wailing on the latter is one of my favourite parts of any Lana song, ever.

Ultraviolence (the title track, I mean) strikes me as one of those hypnotic songs and the spoken bridge is sexy, sexy, sexy. And finally, I don't hate Brooklyn Baby... to me, its just unremarkable, but I mean, we've heard like a teeny tiny bit of it so the capacity for it to grow on me is still there. It does have a good vibe/mood to it, I have to say, so I do kinda like it.

I'm very happy with Dan as a producer and I feel like Lana is finally making the music I wanted her to make, that I didn't know I wanted, if that makes any sense? haha :3

I like the aesthetic this era, from the grunge-inspired look to the black and white of promo videos and artwork. I'm hopeful that Lana can get the critics in her favour, because I think it would really increase her confidence and it would mean a lot to her. I'm excited for her and I'm excited for us, as a fanbase!

Well, I guess when you truly believe her lyrics haven't worsen you must be in denial.. I just feel like she doesn't show as much variety any more, her lyrics have become really really simple instead of clever ryhming. She always talks about painting pictures with words, but they're not as vivid as they used to be. But don't wanna complain, I don't know but it's just that common phenomenon of your fave band/singer's first album, they just never go back.

I'm struggling with these vocals if I'm honest. I'm a Lana fan, not Lizzy. But I will reserve judgement until I hear the full album.

It's more than that, at least to me. Good lyrics are good lyrics, but bad/mediocre lyrics can be elevated by production / mood / delivery. I don't think lyrics are the be-all, end-all of a song, and I don't think anyone else here that has a bone to pick with them thinks that either.

In Trash Magic, there's this sort of whimsical, idiosyncratic production, and coupled with the nostalgic mood of the song and seductive, whisper way it is sung, the lyrics take a back seat. She could be singing about fucking donkeys for all I care and I would still fall under the song's spell... Okay, maybe that's a bit of an exaggeration, but you get my point.

In Brooklyn Baby... it's just bizarre. The admittedly little we've heard has, in my opinion, horrible lyrics. The production/delivery fails to elevate the lyrics, and if anything, highlights how fucking blasé they are. "My boyfriend's in a band / He plays guitar while I sing Lou Reed" Like... what?

Honestly, I think she is more than deserving of criticism considering that she considers herself a writer first and foremost ("~wanted to be a beautiful poet~") and her crappy "I KNOW RILL ART N NO 1 ELS DOES" attitude...

Don't want to listen to a stupid snippet of Brooklyn Baby and that's why I turned the volume down when it came on

First of all I'm glad that she got a promo video at all ! Oh and shame on me but I like those 2 minutes better than the entire West Coast video   Why did they cut out all the cute and exciting scenes ????

idk... her themes have always been the same and sort of repetitive IMO but at least there was some originality in her writing and the way she expressed them. Those repetitive themes are the only thing that differentiate her lyrically. apart from production, she just continues to regress. sry this probs makes no sense.

No but you guys really do too much about her lyrics. A verse like "Do you like my fake nails, daddy? / Black palm tree, pink tiger stripes / Used to go to the Comfort Inn, yeah / Will you buy me a slice of cherry pie?" would get ripped to shreds if we'd never heard it and it popped up in 2014 with her deep ass voice and big lips. But no she wuz Lizzy she wuz poor how cute she tried then (?). Not to say Paradise doesn't have some shit lyrics but Brooklyn Baby is not the battle to fight
