Pitchfork Reviews Rescored (including Born To Die)
GeminiLanaFan replied to longtimeman's topic in Latest News
I don’t think it was « ahead of its time » but it sure was an iconic trendsetter: another way of viewing feminism, in being able to tell your story and how you are feeling, no matter how unpopular this might be with the times. I get the criticism she got with this album because it sure wasn’t what we were expecting from a woman to write. But after a few records, you get that BTD was a chapter in her life, when she was 20. So, no, you can’t expect her to be in full « feminist mode » (who can honestly say that their relationships in their 20s were all healthy? It comes with a better understanding of who you are as you get older, and nobody is there at 20), and nobody was getting how hyperbolic or cynical many lyrics are on BTD and UV (like on National Anthem and Money Power Glory). That being said, that critic was way too harsh. The reviews score of BTD is fair and should have been that from the start. -
I don’t mind piano ballads at all, if the voice is good. I read on Twitter that the song was good and that 30 would be more in the vein of 19 : less vocal pirouettes and deeper lyrics (which I’m fine with: maybe she won’t break her vocal cords again on tour this time around).

Lol piano ballad… but nobody won’t bat an eye

To the exception of LFL, I always prefer the final version to all the demos she made. LB gets carried away way too much when a demo leaks and is called « better than the final version » or « better than half of the LFL album » (the LFL slander is old, get over it. If she had released another album like HM - which was the OG version of it, based on the demos - I’m sure many would have found it boring and too much « one note », just like what is said of Chemtrails).

Do you think Lana could happen if she debut with BTD now?
GeminiLanaFan replied to palemoonbaby's topic in Lana Thoughts
If BTD was the exact same, I don’t think so. Occidental societies have taken a shift into cancel culture and she would be heavily criticized by woke culture for not being « feminist » enough, even though she is telling her own story and that chapter is one of 20 year-old young woman in the 2000s. i do wonder though what the musical scene would look like today if we never had Lana, especially on the alt-pop scene.- 32 replies

Gurl, same. I believe that the only line dating back to the UV era from that song is, well, Let me love you like a woman. I really think that song was in her phone notes and not much more, like a very early draft. A bit like Hope, that she had been writing for three years before meeting Jack. maybe If You Lay Down With Me (Lie Down?!? Not sure) was just also a rough draft…

I’m glad she didn’t change NotG since it’s already perfect. Thunder was near perfect so I have something to look forward to in the small changes they did. Living Legend and Cherry Blossom are the songs that I don’t connect to that much yet (Cherry Blossom has too many versions and none is final - I rarely connect to the demos sadly - and my version of Living Legend is so shitty, I don’t hear half of what she’s saying, and knowing how specific is that song, I pretty much always skip it even if I like the Wawa Wawa part)

Who knows? BUS didn’t have the Nikki featuring until almost release I think (even if we knew from the start it would). I really hope Miles is on Dealer: it was one of the surprises of the song and he gives it such a surreal vibe. Also… maybe Black Bathing Suit is the Jesse R song they recorded in 2017 since no featuring have been indicated (maybe there’ll even be one for Sweet Carolina). I wouldn’t be mad about it at all, I love that song as well.

Probably nothing, but the link to BB doesn’t include Spotify…
