    Hey everyone!
I made this topic to discuss something I noticed as soon as I listened to Ultraviolence and Brooklyn Baby...
First, does anyone notice the STRIDENT simmilarity between Ultraviolence and Born To Die's overture? The orchestral, empiral string cadence?

And in a second hand, does anyone notice a vocal melody simmilarity between brooklyn baby's "My boyfriend's in the band" and Summertime Sadness' "I've got my red dress on tonight"?

After I compared them and sang them one after the other I felt somehow disappointed... I just can't describe the feeling. It's not quite disappointment... It's as if I feel she always writes about the same things with the same punch lines or objects (red sun party dresses, brands, cigarrettes, daddies, and stuff like that) and not just that but her melodies are repetitive too?

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE her ever since I discovered her in Stereogum in exactly August 23rd 2011 with this article http://www.stereogum.com/786631/lana-del-rey-video-games-video/video/
So I'm all here for the love.
But I just felt like talking about this

I think this is her very essence: equal parts art and science. I think LDR as a persona/identity is meant to be someone who lives poetically, driven only by emotion and whims, makes her 'life an art', etc.

But the reality is she would not be where she is if she were just a wide-eyed innocent, dreaming about life from her window sill all day, or being led around by boys. Lizzy Grant is the shadow master and commander of the LDR concept; she dreams big but she is also a doer, the ruler of her own destiny. (Her critics who think she has no agency need to wake up —  who in pop music right now has more control of their own vision than her ?)   She is very calculating, knowing, and aware of how to give form to her dreams. It surely all starts with intuition and artistic intention and emotion, but then Science Lizzy kicks in — the one who researches, studies, analyzes, experiments w/ a hypothesis, puts in art in action. A good creative director is always equally artistic and scientific, and Lizzy herself has hinted at this in interviews.

I also think someone like this is naturally driven to explore esoteric and marginalized philosophy/psychology/cultural topics; I'm sure she's even aware of Crowley, Theosophy, and the like. Not sure if I buy she was in 'a cult', but the chronology specifics don't matter so much, the essence of how it shaped her does. What's exciting is that she can bring these super niche topics into the warmth of the spotlight, even if she has to paint broad strokes to do so. I honestly can't think of someone else so widely known and loved that is able to pull this off in the 21st century. Maybe Grimes, but with her, it's literally the Wiki-meets-Tumblr remix version of everything. Young artists everywhere should be inspired that women like Lizzy are finding ways to make the outre and strange palatable.

Lana has been safe from the 27 club curse for a while tbh.

People are saying that Gaga has never dissed/criticized Lana. Well, maybe not publicly but Lana & Gaga have a lot of history together so maybe something was said behind the scenes. It's not like the internet is the only way celebrities communicate, after all. I definitely think it's Gaga and not Lorde. Lana obviously has a distaste for Gaga (see: So Legit & the "when will people be over her" FB post) so it actually wouldn't be too surprising to see even more shade being thrown. I'm excited to hear the song but on the other hand I do think Lana's being awfully petty... I mean, writing a song bashing another artist and officially releasing it on what's going to be one of the best-selling albums this year is a bit extreme, don't you think?

It’s about a singer who first sneered about my allegedly not authentic style but later she stole and copied it. And now she’s acting like I am the art project and she the true super artist.

It's a lot more likely she's talking about someone else (I think....) but lol @ the amount of artists you could use as a reply to this

God damn. Why does Lana have all these interesting and mysterious lives she has lived in her 20 something years of living and I'm just on my computer reading about them?

I'd like to see the original Grazia source rather than this translation of a secondhand source, but assuming this describes it accurately... when exactly did she have time for a cult in between living with her boyfriend in Alabama and having a 7-year relationship with a label head?

What's more annoying are people who construct a straw man (straw woman? lol) of what feminism is and use it to blithely write off the entire feminist movement and the entirety of feminist thought.

This is one of the dumber comments I've seen on this forum. And that's saying something.

    She's practically begging for Lanalysis.

I haven't read Heavier Than Heaven, but I had the same thought when reading that part of the interview.

Although it should be noted that Lana didn't talk about it, the writer mentioned it. I get the sense a lot of things mentioned in the article came from the writer's own research (sometimes wrong, see Lana Del Ray A.K.A. Lizzy Grant) rather than talking to Lana. Not that Lana wouldn't give the writer wrong information too ("the 27-year-old Lana Del Rey").

Honestly I think all these 12 year old tumblr girls, will start to move on past Lana once ULTRAVIOLENCE comes out I mean come on it's no where near pop at all. Born to Die some songs were kinda pop/ could be classified as it (Diet mtn Dew, National Anthem, This is What Makes us Girls) but ULTRAVIOLENCE seems so deep I doubt these 12 year old girls will go to antoher concert

dont know where to post this but i found some stuff about Ocean Grove from Methamphetamines

its a 1950's time warp town by the seaside in New Jersey, its all very Lana lol. and all the houses have verandas, the lyric "the veranda looks Ocean Grove" seems more plausible now.
