  1. same! the acoustic guitars in the first half really remind me of kurt cobain's acoustic demos
  2. which is fascinating because A&W feels SO visual to me... when i listen to it, i imagine dark, seedy settings, smoke, fog, streetlights, but it is generally a dark, almost maroon-type of red, it makes you think of somebody's very distant, past memories of being young, like i imagine a young girl in a dark room sitting close to a television screen when the second verse comes around, it's strange, liminal spaces, it's a slight, eerie chill when you're driving fast on the highway and watching all of the articifial lights zipping by, it's just such a great song oh my god
  3. i know some have speculated that "jimmy" is referring to herself, but i'm speculating that "jimmy" could possible be alcohol? there's many theories about what the track "ultraviolence" is about (the theory that it is about the source family cult is my favorite) some have speculated that ultraviolence is about alcohol, in fact, somebody that lana knew personally even said it themselves that the "jim" she mentions in her songs is alcohol (also there's a chance she actually met him way before 2014 because he was friends with reeve carney, somebody who also knew lana in 2007, the song jimmy gnecco from 2007... etc.) it's possible that A&W is primarily about her youth, and as we all know, she suffered from alcoholism when she was a teenager which resulted in her being put into a boarding school, and i think it's easy to assume now that being put into this boarding school was probably a very negative experience for her "jimmy only love me when he wanna get high" could reflect the idea that drinking was only fun/enjoyable when it was something done with other people, or for the purpose of escapism, similar to somebody getting high, drinking only "benefitted" her when it was a way to have fun or to escape, this really reminds me of "get drunk" some of the lyrics share this concept of alcohol being something enjoyable even if it's obvious that it's very destructive "it's gonna be a ball" "this time it will be fun" "your mom called, i told her, you're fucking up big time" as a young teen, drinking was obviously a bad choice, especially since she got addicted to it, she's saying this as if it's somebody else who's aware she's addicted to alcohol and that she's messing up herself and her life "jimmy, if you leave the house, find me in the club" obviously, a club would be a place where somebody would drink alcohol, especially socially and as a way to have fun and let loose the second part of the song is a lot more energetic compared to the first part, but there's still a lot of sketchiness underlying the beats and lana's catchy delivery, because even if she's taking about love, light, getting high, it's not out of a place of having pure, delightful fun, or feeling content inside, it's coming from a place of pain and self-destruction, it's almost as if all of the events or feelings she described in the first half resulted in her addiction(s), which would lead into the following years of her life and career
  4. i haven't been very active in this thread, but i just wanted to express my thoughts on A&W, firstly, this song is most definitely already one of my favorite lana songs of all-time, it is INCREDIBLE, it is dark, complex, psychedelic, 5+ minutes long, abstract, yet specifically honest, it's insane, it's something we haven't heard yet from lana at all, there are so many things i love about it, it feels like every other past album, song, and period of lana's artistry has led up to this particular song/moment in her discography, we couldn't have this track without all of the others which came before it, A&W is very revealing, yet still keeps it abstract, and wondering more about her past and her history, that's what is amazing about lana is that we know so much about her, yet she is still so mysterious and elusive, there's so many questions you'll still have after listening to this track if i'm correct, i believe the pitchfork review of this track described the second part of the song as a feeling of accepting yourself as an outcast, and i've been holding onto that, because this track is so eerie, it's not just a song detailing her frustrations and her troubles throughout her life, it feels dirty, there's a taboo undertone lingering in the energy of this song, there's a very subtle, yet palatable essence of horror and despair in this track which makes it so much more rich and more of an experience, i feel like i can relate to the grimy chaos in this track, but also the parts of this track that feel more careless and almost ironically enjoying and embracing the mess and the chaos, because if you've dealt with complicated, strange experiences, or are just a complicated, strange person, you probably feel like, or even know, that that will never change, so you just have to face the darkest parts of yourself, and try your best to view them as something that is beautiful, something that makes you who you are, and sometimes, that's how you survive

    Song vs. Song

cinnamon girl vs. never let me go
  6. i doubt that lana even remembers much about this era to be honest
  7. we don't know for sure if "pretty baby" is actually "for k", it's just speculation

  9. regardless, when the "young like me" and "from the end" EPs leaked, which were registered the year they were recorded, they leaked with those titles, so they're real, even if the other titles which showed up on the youtube copyright are as well, possibly, but i don't think they are

  11. i believe i read somewhere here recently that there was a blog-post by arthur lynn where he talked about his love for diet mountain dew, he said that he deleted his diet mountain dew myspace account after a fight with his ex-girlfriend, which may have been lizzy now that i think about it, the timeline of her relationships during the lizzy grant era is a bit confusing, but this is what i think it is we don't know a lot about her relationships during the first few months of 2007, but she did perform with steven mertens in may, 2007, it's actually a myth that they performed "when i'm with you" at this show, that was clarified by be free/lisandro, so they could've just been friends during that may performance, it's more likely that the recording of when i'm with you is from fall, 2007, i believe she started dating arthur lynn during the middle of 2007/summer of 2007, since it seems like everything involving "the rich whores" took place during that time, i believe lana and steven mertens were together during the fall months of 2007 since it seems like a majority of the material they did together were from the fall of 2007 (for example, the mermaid motel demo is from september, 2007, and the trash magic demo, i believe? is from november, 2007) i think she started dating reeve carney in december of 2007 and their relationship continued into 2008, here's them together on new year's eve, 2007 here's them together, during, what i assume is, january of 2008 he also appears in the sixth version of the gramma music video which mostly features clips from the trailer park tour video which we currently don't have, i really don't know exactly when she filmed the trailer park tour video, but it would've been 2008, at some point when she was living at the trailer park (perhaps this is what she meant when she mentioned romances entering the trailer park in the trailer park interview? ) not quite sure when mike mizrahi entered the picture, but the earliest mention of him that i could find was this tweet he made he also interviewed her on february 9th, 2009, which can be found in the early interviews thread, it doesn't seem obvious to me that they were a couple at the time, but maybe they got together at a later time after knowing each other
  12. it seems like arthur lynn must've had an impact on her, it seems like he introduced her to a lot of music which probably influenced her for years to come, i'm pretty certain the whole "hawaiian glam metal" description, as well as the infatuation with "metal" or "boys who like metal" as she said in the trailer park interview came from him, also, his favorite drink was/is? diet mountain dew, he even ran a fan-page for diet mountain dew on myspace (which can be seen on her friends-list in some screenshots) which obviously is the title of one of her born to die songs, also, she says "dizzy from loving you" in WTWWAWWKD, arthur lynn has a song that's very obviously about her titled "dizzy", may just be a coincidence, but you never know https://web.archive.org/web/*/http://www.angiescreams.com/mp3/dizzy.mp3 nitpicking, but i don't believe she was with him when she was 20, which would've been 2005, it seems like their relationship primarily took place in 2007, when she was 22, (which is mentioned in dizzy ) however, this photo of them together seems to be from a later date, maybe 2008? perhaps they got back together for a brief period of time, or just remained friends! honestly, arthur lynn might be my favorite boyfriend of lana's, he just seems really cool and it seems like he only influenced her in positive ways
  13. OH FUCK GOING TO LISTEN TO BOTH VERSIONS RIGHT NOW I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR MY WAY FOR YEARSSSS edit: okay the snapchat version SUCKS honestly... the music-mafia version is better, it really bugs me how the snapchat version's instrumental sounds so pitched-up compared to the song it was later used for, the snapchat snippet was deceiving lol at the end of the day, i'm glad they've finally leaked because i know fans have been waiting for them for a very long time
