Norman Fucking Rockwell - Pre-Release Thread
bored replied to Elle's topic in Retired Pre-Release Threads
To think that from December 2011 to November 2012, we had Born To Die (album), Born To Die, Blue Jeans, Carmen, National Anthem, Summertime Sadness, Blue Velvet and Ride music videos (2 of those being short films), then we got Paradise (EP) all within 11 months... Since September 2018, we've had 3 promo singles and a cover song released (none with proper music videos) all within 9 months... And the next 2 months don't look very promising. -

Well we know the album was 13 tracks when she said it was mastered and complete. Half of those songs have been confirmed, released or teased so expect very few new tracks. -

And you thought me stanning Light It Up and Mow That Lawn was the joke... Charli is the joke here
-
As if she has unreleased songs like Light It Up and Mow That Lawn yet she's still trying to make Blame It On Your Love happen and has made another collab with Troye. Charli, what you doing?
-
I guess, but my worry is that if half the features bring nothing or are pointless like Lizzo it looks bad on Charli, like what's the point? Is she just trying to get more people to listen to the album - I can see it being seen as a desperate attempt to get people to listen or pay attention... Obviously we know she loves collaborating but I fear it might backfire in terms of critics and the GP, like they might be put off. I'm a fan and I already worry that half the songs are gonna get skipped now...

Imagine us finally finding out the NFR release date through an Azealia feud on Twitter... Somebody get her to tweet Lana about NFR, get her to provoke Lana, she'll take the bait. -
The collabs on Pop 2 didn't really bring much, often it made the song worse (ALMA, Dorian Electra, Mykki Blanco, Jay Park)… I'm personally disappointed with 15 songs having 14 features, like I wanna hear Charli... I buy a Charli album to listen to her not other singers. And I know we don't know all the features but the fact that Lizzo brought nothing to Blame It On Your Love and the other is Troye doesn't really have me feeling excited or hopeful.

I can't get Gods & Monsters on Spotify in the UK... Do we know why? -
I agree completely, especially considering the visuals for this single look like a continuation of 5 In The Morning... I'm assuming Atlantic were following the strategy of 1999 and holding the video back to surge streams etc. But it hasn't been climbing like 1999 was. The song and music video dropped on the same day would have been more impactful (considering we'd heard the song as Track 10 and a leak). She or they really killed the hype for this single after dropping Spicy and Dream Glow and teasing more new material.
-
Imagine just opening your curtains one morning to see Lana Del Rey on the lawn over the road posing with a beach ball and a cat... Also, the infamous BTD truck was in England, so I'm guessing the one used in Love and LFL cover wasn't the exact same one
-
At this point I hope Blame It On Your Love is being abandoned and cast aside as a stand alone single (like 1999). Scrap the video and move on... As for the 50 track album, we know she already narrowed that down to 27 songs? Which she supposedly loves! I'd honestly enjoy a solid and cohesive 13 track album followed up with a Side B project or mixtape, with 10 of the remaining songs she loves. It's not about quantity, I just want quality... I believe Pop 2 was the project that defined her sound and she has already told us that is the sound evolution to expect - however Number 1 Angel had much more quality control in terms of collabs and cohesion and I'm hoping that's where somebody from her team steps in and stops this being a 30 track mess with 100 features.

I wouldn't even be sad if she just told us NFR was scrapped and she was retiring, at least this bs would end. -
I wouldn't say it's negative it's just preparing ourselves for the worst or being aware that we've been here before... We had After The Afterparty (and it underperformed like Blame It On Your Love has), yes she performed new material like Gone and 2099 but we also had Bounce and Girls Night Out performances last time around. I don't want history to repeat itself, I want this album as much as everyone but it could happen. XCX World was ready to go, artwork, tracklist complete and she knew what the singles would be etc. We even had a vague release date at the beginning of the era (May 2017)… Everything seemed to be great. I know she's mentioned "album" more this time around and she said she'd feed us for 5 months with new music but that just reminds her of her "planning 2016 releases like" and "tagging Atlantic so they know what's good... you're gonna get so much new music you'll be sick of me" in 2018 posts. Neither of which led to an album.
-
It's weird cos I don't really remember any buzz or mention of XCX World in 2016... Like I just remember After The Afterparty being dropped then her saying the album coming in May... Maybe I've blocked it out but that era never seemed like it was gonna happen aha Besides Bounce, all I remember was that one interview where she confirmed there was a collab with a big male artist (will.i.am) and that she wanted Girls Night Out to be the second single - I think she also said Waterfall was her stripper song and Can You Hear Me? was the ballad. But that was just one interview at the very beginning... late 2016 throughout 2017 was just "coming soon".
-
Honestly same, I enjoyed XCX World but it would have flopped hard, it's likely the new album won't have much of an impact but she seems to have more of a devoted fan base than she did coming off the back of Sucker. I'm pleased we got to hear the unreleased album, but I imagine that would've been the last we would've heard from her in a long time. I think she'd be held at the label as a writer. Now she seems to have much more freedom and say in her career... I'm very excited for this album, even if it does flop.
-
I'm dumb, but was XCX World an intentional reference to Spice World or just coincidence? We know she loves the Spice Girls, she thanked them in the Sucker credits, covered Wannabe with Halsey, said they've influenced her music (see Girls Night Out) and now Spicy...
-
We really haven't had a new unheard solo Charli song since Focus... Damn! I know we've had like 20 songs since then but that's wild, especially when the forseeable releases seem to be collabs too!
-
Could you imagine? Ahahahaha
-
Let her enjoy it, like this is 3rd song we've had from her in the past month, we know there's 2 more singles coming and a music video (maybe?)… Considering there was a time when she didn't know what or when her next release would be, I don't mind her teasing.
-
I mean technically we got No Angel (with additional production from Invisible Men) and Girls Night Out last year... As it's been mentioned SOPHIE is pretty expensive and that's probably why we only got one of her songs on each of the mixtapes (Roll With Me and Out Of My Head) but I imagine she'll do something for the upcoming album. We haven't had a project from Charli since Pop 2 and she worked on that so... Alternatively Charli has moved on from SOPHIE's sound and works with AG more frequently, or SOPHIE maybe doesn't do much for Charli anymore since a whole albums worth of material leaked which neither of them can profit from now.
