i like how the song is built but the lyrics are way too safe and simple . i need something lyrically complex by marina . and if she could do it at 18 she can do it now . i wonder how much time she spent writing this

The issue with her music is that she plays it too safe, it's so obvious that she's creatively uninspired. I lost all hope after ADIAML
This sounds like her older work but much worse. The only thing "different" is the high pitched chorus lol. Don't get me started on those lyrics..

Suki Waterhouse is a British model, actress and singer.
She began releasing music in 2016 and has released about one single a year since then, most famously seems to be Good Looking from 2017.
This year she released her first album I Can't Let Go. Her music style is retro pop I would say.
She's on tour with Father John Misty this year and in five days her next single Nostalgia will be released.
 
 

Its alright. I dislike the chorus but I can see everyone else liking it the second it gets released. But the rest of the song seems fine for me. It's cute. its like a mix of Froot and ADIAML for me.

It's not bad. It feels like Superstar and Blue. Lyrically, the same Marina True Colours x No More Suckers x True shit over and over. Which is kinda OK but a terrible choice for a comeback song and i hope the album as a whole doesn't sound this uninspired.

looking at his recent discography is so depressing. it’s all the most random ass songs that no one is listening to. tiesto? dj khaled? tones and i? this man writes pure poetry and THESE are the songs getting released? (and most of them just being interpolations of his older stuff)

I’m on my 3rd listen with headphones on and the melody is growing on me, love the pre-chorus but I just can’t stand the high-pitched voice  the problem is not even the voice itself, it’s more the rhythm of the chorus - like it doesn’t flow with the rest

I like it more than I was expecting to, definitely not going to be a favorite of mine or anything but good enough to give me hope for this era I suppose. Aside from the pitching on the vocals I do really like the almost-europop production on the chorus.

eh, don’t know if this argument makes a ton of sense - you can’t really group all of basic pop together as a whole. pretty broad spectrum there. comparing electra to what marina’s releasing now is like comparing future nostalgia to an ava max album. 
 
just the lyricism between then and now is what really does it for me. valley of the dolls for instance, so incredibly gorgeous! sex yeah, genuinely a little thought provoking, it’s progressive without being corny! 
 
the production too! those first three albums had so many little things in the background that i would regularly put on instrumentals to study to, but a lot of the instrumentals nowadays are kinda just really generic (besides ancient dreams which actually had some interesting choices!)  

it kind of would though. change some of the lyrics and the progression of some bits and it would be a froot outtake

I don't hate it but I don't love it, it's cute/enjoyable and I suspect it might be a grower. I wish she used her lower register to give a bit more contrast, it feels a bit one note from verse to pre-chorus. I actually prefer the chorus to the verses, I just feel like sometimes she works better with a co-writer to edit lyrics and maybe this could have helped here, but there's nothing egregious that makes me want to make an edit like purge the poison's verses. the concept is cute too! personally I find it relatable.
