  1. The second snippet sounds weird lmao but I'm so ready for this... come on Lana...
  2. @ I hope I rated this the way you were saying in the original post, if not, just let me know how you'd prefer it to be. I also color coded the song titles... So my review... I'm listening to it on Spotify so... Shamir - RATCHET, Week 1. 1) Vegas: Woah, didn't expect his voice to sound like this but it's not a bad thing. It's a good album opener and I really like the sound of it, and it's just... a lot better than what my initial reaction would be. I like it, though. A 2) Make A Scene: I didn't care too much for this song. It's not my favorite so far. Simply a C 3) On The Regular: I really like this song, as far as I am in the album, I'm liking this more than the first two tracks. I really like the instrumental and the lyrics are interesting... which is what I really like about it. "This is me on the regular, so you know" lol giving me those "This is my show" teasssss. I really love the "Don't try me, I'm not a free sample" line lmao I'd give this track an A 4) Call It Off: I like the sound of this song. Again, not my favorite track, but more favorable than the first two songs. Instrumental is interesting. Lyrics are, too, just kind of repetitive. It feels like there's a lot going on toward the end of the track but I like the way it ended with the beep-sounding noises. Very different from normal pop. Eh, C 5) Hot Mess: I like the first verse but the chorus kind of killed it for me. It's just, well... a hot mess. And a like the song before, a bit too repetitive. I mean, we get it. "Damn he's a hot mess." This song just kind of annoyed me, really. F 6) Demon: His voice on this!!! Oh my fucking god!!! The lyrics!! YASSSSS!!!! 10/10. Right now. The instrumental on this and the beat. He recovered from the messiness of the last song. "I'm a ride or die, and it feels so right, and I gone and sold my soul" might not seem like a great line but I really like it. "If I'm a demon, baby, you're the beast that made me" is just... The beat is just cohesive throughout the entire track and I love that. Now if the rest of the album is like that... This track is a A for me. 7) In For The Kill: Annnnd I'm a bit disappointed. I mean, I like the lyrics to this one, but the sound wasn't that chill or laid back like Demon. I liked the simplicity of Demon so I was hoping something along those lines. Having one beat and then a random saxophone line reminds me of that Afraid V2 with the random snare drum line playing in the middle of the song... I mean, it's just not a track I'd return to and probably skip. The bridge is recovering it... Okay. I like it better. I think the bridge recovered it. I'd give it an F 8) Youth: I like the sound of this better than I did 'In For The Kill.' I mean, it just seems more chill but with enough bop to kind of wanna follow the beat. The lyrics are interesting but it's just, like those couple earlier songs, too repetitive toward the end. I mean, I get what he's saying but it's just a bit annoying. It's not something to kill the song because I genuinely like the sound of the song, so I'd give it a C. 9) Darker: YES. Another ballad-type song. These are what he's best at, in my opinion. God, this is what I'm here for. I'm loving it so much. The chorus section simply compliments his voice and that's a good thing. Tbh I expected the song to pick up the beat after the first verse into the chorus or after the chorus into the second verse, but it didn't and I'm glad it didn't. "It's getting harder to contain the truth" is just... A. 10) Head In The Clouds: Back to another upbeat song. I like the sound of it and the lyrics. I like the instrumental part right after the first chorus and the sound of the entire song is just... new and different. I mean, sure the rest of the album sounded "new" and "different" but there's just something about this song that's just a bit more... well, it feels new. It just does, imo. I'd give it an A. Definitely a bop 11) KC: I didn't expect a more... well, acoustic sounding song for this one. But I fucking love it. The sound is different from the rest of the album and I'm glad he went in this direction with it and not overproduced or anything or made it a messy, repetitive song. His voice on this track is just goddamn perfect for the lyrics. I loved the entire song. A My thoughts on the album as a whole: I like it but it's not the best debut album I've ever heard. It's different and sounds new. I'm really into the sound of it and the lyrics were really good. I liked more than half of the album, so I obviously like it. The instrumentals gave me a little bit of Azalea Banks teasss, with the weird, different sound but he still made it work. I'd just say it's definitely a good album this year, but not my favorite. I'd say it's an A/C album, kind of both.
  3. My boyfriend's pretty cool, but he's not as cool as me...
  4. Not you hating on the heavy metal and true music, the gospel genre. Jk. I'd like to participate. I think. Count me in at least for now, and if I forget about it, then fuck it lol
  5. Remember when she tweeted "Vice running shit now starting with Ultraviolence" and she only released a video for UV? I wonder if that means this era Vice is still running shit. But yeah I agree, I feel like HM will be a filler album.... Unless UV was meant to be and she's going to carry this era for a good two years, release an EP with it 6 months later, promote it on a world tour, release singles and higher budgeted videos... etc. Am I the only one who remembers when the model was like "Oh yeah I have no idea what song this is for!" and then like two weeks later "Music To Watch Boys To, coming this month!" Bitch......
  6. I'm so ready to be slain... but I'm not because I need to buy the UV box set first lol
  7. You know, if you connect BTD and Honeymoon's lyrics from "Mr. Born To Lose" and "You and I, we were born to die" and the song Jimmy wrote saying "If you think you were born to die, and it makes you not want to try, fall into my hands again" which makes it kind of obvious that those songs are about each other (unless he just so happened to write a song about a girl who claims that she was born to die, and Lana just so happened to write "You and I, we were born to die" into a song and name it her first album, jfc.) So if you connect Honeymoon's lyrics of "Mr Born to lose" and where she says "We both know the history of violence that surrounds you" to Ultraviolence's "Jim told me that, he hit me and it felt like a kiss... Jim raised me up, he hurt me but it felt like true love..." And of course, Hundred Dollar Bill... ("I like your ultraviolent swing, I like it when you treat me mean, you turn my mood from black to blue...") I haven't read the Lanalysis OP in a long time so Idk if this was mentioned there or not, but my point is, the violent theme/connection throughout these few songs leads me to believe "smarty" is Jimmy. "Beat me and tell me that no one will love me better than you do"
  8. Exactly what I've been thinking lol it'll be the Florida Kilos of HM
  9. Isn't this what we've been thinking, tho, since we found out she had male models in the next video?
  10. I think it was her way of saying goodbye to the Ultraviolence record and welcoming in Honeymoon
  11. I'd really love if she overlapped lyrics from certain songs on this record into the other songs, like she did with the line "Lay me down tonight in my linen and curls..." from FMWUTTT and put it into UV. It'd be something really interesting to find in the songs. Anyone else remember when we were trying to find out what she said during Shades Of Cool's bridge and we eventually figured it out The memoriesssss But really, Lanz, I'm not here for that shit where we can't hear you.....
  12. I mean, I'm excited to hear it but I really would like to see the full homemade video..... which we'll never get. Damn it, Lana.
  13. Do you understand the meaning of "Gender: Male"???????
  14. Then again, you're going on about mental illnesses. Please, tell me what mental illness makes you feel like you were born in the wrong body. If you're going to claim that being born the wrong race is a mental disorder, what's the difference between dying your hair because your natural hair color isn't what you want? How about change sex? It's the same thing, if you're going to say it's a mental illness, educate yourself or don't speak. Also, look at Halle Berry, Latoya Jackson, Lil Kim, and all the others who've bleached their skin. It's a common thing. They've done it, so what's wrong with her doing it? Obviously she wanted to fit into a certain community and she's being ridiculed and she's being told "you have a mental illness." That's bullshit. It's like trying to say "A man can't be a feminist" or "a straight person can't be a supporter of the LGTBQQ+ community" just because they don't fit in. Look at things from more than one perspective.
  15. If she's a professor of African studies and she's helping the NAACP by being a leader, what's so wrong about it? She's not being negative. It would be much different if she was trying to ruin anything the NAACP is doing or whatever. Are you meaning to say that Bruce Jenner can't be who he wants to be by changing into Caitlyn and becoming a woman? I mean, there's trans people who are born with the wrong body but live with it anyway. Was that just a mental disorder? Did you forget about Michael Jackson bleaching his skin? People blame everything on mental disorders now and it's disgusting. Not everything that you disagree with is a mental disorder.
  16. Are people giving her shit about it? Because if anything, the NAACP should use anyone of any race help their movements, let alone someone who wants to be black.
  17. I love the first one. It's more current than the second and third ones.
  18. 1 - Honeymoon 2 - Us Against The World 3 - J.F.K. 4 - Children Of The Bad Revolution 5 - Music To Watch Boys To 6 - Serial Killer 7 - The Man I Love 8 - My Best Days 9 - Velvet Crowbar (some kind of reworking) 10 - Damn You 11 - Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood (cover) Bonus: 12 - Do Right (cover) 13 - Young & Beautiful (Jazz mix) 14 - Motel 6
  19. Are you fucking stupid? Like seriously. Do you NOT know how to read? I posted this in response to someone... Because YOU think that you knew your sexuality when you were 6 years old (because let's be honest, girls have "cooties" when we're little and vice versa about boys from a girl's perspective) doesn't mean everyone else did, let alone a boy who's been raped by his father AND a football coach. That would most likely drive a boy AWAY from wanting to be with guys, let alone be sexually or romantically interested in anyone for a while. Have you not heard of when some women get raped by men and they're too scared of men to have any kind of sexual or romantic relationship with a man, so they decide that being a lesbian is the better choice for them? Now, I'll admit, I knew my sexuality more when I was in 5th or 6th grade, but nobody knows their self well enough to say at age 6 "Oh, I like penis." or "Oh, I wanna have sex with a man." That doesn't run through a 6 year old's head... In my first post on this thread saying "I'm 17 and I still haven't figured out all of that shit..." I was referring to the ENTIRE statement, not just sexuality. I was talking about figuring out who you are, which most people don't figure out until their late teens/early twenties and sometimes later than that. Goddamn, the ignorance.....
  20. Then again, it could be like Flipside with a minute long finale of just an instrumental so we'll see lol I hope it's a bop too tho
  21. That's true but knowing her, she probably already has her own meaning in her head and it's probably completely different from what we all think she means lol
