Personally, for me, she's an icon. I love the style of her music, I love the lyrical structure (even if some of it may repeat in other songs) and I think she's very... She's different than other artists out there right now. I love that about her. I love the way she sings and her voice and it's all attributes to reasons why I love Lana. As for being an icon for the digital era or right now in the industry, no, she's not. Not yet, anyway. She has fans, sold out stadiums, but she needs radio airplay. She needs to be everywhere, singing at a Superbowl or at something that will get her face, name, and music out there. Last year (March 2013) when I discovered her, I had NO idea who she was. I didn't even realize she had a fanbase as big as it is. Now, with Lady Gaga, she became an icon because she was thrown onto the radio with the first single she released. Just Dance slayed everyone off of the radio and today, Do What U Want is played and Artpop tanked. Now, don't get me wrong, people loved Video Games and it got tons of comments and views and thumbs up on YouTube, but it just wasn't on the radio like it should've been to be popular. Maybe in 5-10 years, or shit, she could become popular now with a song from UV but it needs to get enough promo, enough radio airplay, it needs to be everywhere for her to become an icon. Yeah, people know her name NOW, but let's be honest, she's just not there at 'Icon' level yet. She has to make radio friendly, commercial music to be on the radio, which was why that godawful remix of Summertime Sadness was played everywhere. I'm not saying EVERY SONG has to be this way, she just needs to have her music played somewhere so it reaches people who actually listen to the radio still (which, I don't but I know what's on it) so they'd wanna go buy her album. In my opinion, the Rick Nowels produced version of West Coast could've been what slayed the charts BUT it didn't release as a single or on the final version of the album... EDIT: Continuing on that little rant, I guess, I went on about radio friendly, commercial music, it seems to me Lana wants creative freedom, which is what she went for when she fought her label to get UV published and out there. She wouldn't mind being played on the radio, but she isn't going to do what the radio wants to be there. She'll make what she wants to make and release, which is the problem when it comes to her being more popular than she already is or her becoming an icon. Then again, each album has sounded differently, going back to Sirens up till now, so we never know what she might decide to do next...

Unreleased Songs For Me To Listen To?
CarcrashBandicoot replied to UltraviolentJack's topic in Lana Thoughts
I have albums that I find to all go together. If you like her slower, darker songs: JFK I Don't Wanna Go Let My Hair Down (Dance Man) Television Heaven If you like poppy songs: Is It Wrong? Us Against The World Live or Die Push Me Down Puppy Love There's so many, I had to go through and listen to all of them to really know what I like. I recommend doing that and downloading them all and just having a Lana marathon like that. -
How dare you use Rachel Reily's sister against me? Fucking. Bye.

And btw everyone, I wasn't saying you shouldn't have an opinion, because you should and you can share it however you want, but it's annoying how everyone bashes it by just a trailer or a small, short teaser. At least wait for the video to be out... Also, you do realize that not every video she does can have a big $500,000 budget or whatever? Eventually, we're all gonna ask, "What's next? She must out-do Summertime Sadness or Born To Die..."

Did anyone else notice her eating the oranges and remember when she sang "I don't mind livin' on bread and oranges" in Pawn Shop Blues? Maybe it was a nod at that since she directed it herself and she thought her fans would appreciate it. She knows we listen and like AKA so...

A ton of fillers? It was 11 songs long with a deluxe edition and that makes it 14 (with the exception of West Coast (radio edit) and the two store exclusives, which would make it 17). How were there a ton of fillers? If you don't want the extra songs, by all means, get the standard edition and don't worry about all of the other songs. One of the deluxe songs were leaked, so you can't count that on the deluxe edition as an extra song because we already had it a year before. We got three re-worked/covered songs that didn't need to be on the album but she liked what she did and it fit the album best. If we have more songs, I think the fandom is actually happier about it, whether some people think they're fillers or not. We had exclusive songs to stores, too, so if you don't want those, don't buy it at that store. It's really easy to avoid buying an album you think has "fillers" and get less songs than what everyone else has and is talking about. That's your choice and if you got it with all of the extra songs that was your fault, but don't blame her for giving us a choice between 11 and 14/17 tracks and you choosing what you bought.

I like it, you're all complaining "Low budget, low budget" Get over yourselves, we're getting a video for Brooklyn Baby and Pretty When You Cry too, so go cry. We'll have more videos. She's in a goddamn wedding dress, people, really. Get over it. Omfg, you're lucky to have 5 (and hopefully more) videos for a record she was unsure about releasing this time last year. Seriously. If she doesn't wanna make a video that costs hundreds of thousands of dollars, its her choice to make, not fan-choice. I, for one, actually like the snippet we got. At least she's working on this record and who knows, we could end up with multiple videos for songs. Has everyone already forgotten last era? Who knows what we'll get for the record.

Lana Considering a Re-Release of 'Ultraviolence'
CarcrashBandicoot replied to HEARTCORE's topic in Latest News
I feel like it would be bad for it to be an extension, tbh. The way she ended the album was great and should be left how she left it. An addition, like an 8 track EP would be nice, of course, but I don't know how it would fit onto the end of UV. I feel like it would be good as just an EP with nothing to do with UV -
Oh, but he has. That's why he says "Fake boobs and fake lips" all the time. And I'm not saying to love everything an artist does, I'm saying to keep your negative comments about certain things to yourself and if you're going to share those opinions, do it in a positive way, not in a way that makes the artist look like shit. I find it completely stupid to bash an artist like he does, then turn around and go to their concerts and say you like them. He does that with Gaga. I just find it completely ridiculous.

I'm not trying to sound sassy LOL I'm just saying that people should SUPPORT her, not bring her down any more than people already have. She didn't wanna release UV because people talked a bunch of shit and then her music leaked... That's why we're gonna be lucky if the next album releases. People make fun of Lana (the SNL performance, still...) and they think she's a shitty artist because of it and then her FANS go and make fun of her... smh, that's what's sad...
-
So why are you even on a Lana fanpage when you enjoy when people make fun of her? I'd think you would wanna stand up for Lana when people talk shit... Seriously, get over yourself.

I don't understand how some of you guys are fans of Lana but this "album" makes fun of her and her music... Smh, this is sad... I need a cigarette...

Wait, so he was asking her if she was going to record that night and she said "Yeah." NEW ALBUM omg pls Well, she's already thinking of another album so... I'm starting to think she wasn't AS happy as she put on to be for UV. I mean, come on, she's ALREADY titled the next one. -

I'll be doing drugs, takin' shots, makin' out in parkin' lots with every little boy I spot... But seriously... She just released an album like, not even 2 weeks ago (in the US) and she's already talking about the next album... Was she as happy with this album as she was acting like?? -
It sounds like her if she were an octave lower and she had a more country accent... smh

Old Money: What's its meaning for you?
CarcrashBandicoot replied to PARADIXO's topic in Lana Thoughts
I personally think the song is about finding someone when you're young, dumb, and naive and falling in love with them and then realizing that they meant so much more to you than you ever expected, ever after they've left you. She sings about him calling her and sending for her and how she'd come back to him, which in my opinion, shows how much she misses and still needs him. She feels a void since he's gone and she's wanting him to come back to her, and if he does, she'll say yes in a heartbeat. I think that she's showing how you can love someone without them being present in your life anymore. She asks where he's been and where he's gone, meaning she wants to know why he left her and she's wondering if he'll ever call her back just to change his mind and tell her how much he missed and loves her. She switches the song to talking about her parents and I think this is how she expresses that could always lean on her parents after someone leaves her. She feels alone, even though her parents are there for her, she still feels that void. I personally think this song was about Jimmy because she sings in Ultraviolence about how it "Reminded me of when we were kids." Then in this song, she refers back to that saying "The kids were young and pretty" and "And we were young and pretty." She also says "The girl you used to call the Queen on New York City" which I've always thought was Jimmy's nickname for her. -
