No I'll praise Born to Die right now

I like Born to Die, I listen to it all the time. It kind of upsets me when I see people say they don't listen to it anymore because all opinions should align with mine I certainly prefer AKA, and I prefer it by a lot...but I think it's kind of popular round these parts to say BTD is total shit and she can do better, but I really love, like...10/15 songs. Which is kind of a good score if you consider I like "Lolita" and "Diet Mountain Dew" in other forms. The only ones that I usually skip are Dark Paradise, Radio, and Lucky Ones. It's good on it's own merits.

It would do all of us a lot of good to stop wishing she'd recreate the magic she had on AKA. In short, she just doesn't want to, and her new stuff is magical in its own way.

Just when I arrive to give Mermaid Motel small praise as a bop, I see Born to Legend slander.

I love Everybody, but that stupid fucking "J-J-J-J.R." bit at the very beginning pisses me off to no end and makes me change the song right away. I hate it when producers shit all over a song with their stupid trademark sounds or whatever. Like, no one wants to fucking hear that, it disrupts the song. I've yet to find an equally HQ version of Everybody without that stupid producer trademark noise, and until I do, Get Back remains above Everybody. They're close equals without that problem though, although I'm still more toward Get Back.

I did a lot of digging today and finally managed to find a lot of interesting things that we didn't know about the May jailer- Lizzy Grant days from the old Myspace. It would be great if you guys appreciate this, it took forever to put together, haha. Most of this is information taken from pictures, they'll be at the end, and the picture containing whatever information will have the picture number next to it in parentheses except performance dates, there are way too many to put with pictures, ask if you need the pictures for the performance dates and I'll PM them. The pictures are out of order by date though. It's all between 2006 and 2010.

  11. Hellion liked a post in a topic by Beauty King in Lana related memories/experiences
Most of my memories related to Lana's music are more general. Whenever I hear a certain lyric, I'm taken back in time to the moment when I first heard it or connected to it. This, coupled with that fact that I actually have a very minor form of synesthesia that causes me to occasionally see sounds as colors, gives me some very interesting associations with my music.

Most times I hear the chorus of Off To The Races, I see a yellowish-orange color. That chorus also brings me back to the first time I heard the song. The picture in my head is of a day in June when I was laying on the grass in my backyard, celebrating the beginning of Summer. It was probably about 5:30 and the sun was getting low in the sky. Everything is frozen in that moment, when I hear the chorus. It's actually kind of beautiful. The yellow-orange color is similar to this:

I don't have many of these associations, but I do have a few others. Born To Die's first few lines are a nearly-black dark brown color. It looks a bit like this, but about a tone darker:

Queen of The Gas Station's chorus is kind of a turquoise color. This is probably the most accurate of the three:

I love how feminists want women to have the CHOICE to be as they wish, and that Lana taking the role of a submissive out of her own CHOOSING is being criticized by apparent feminists.

This is the same shit Madonna dealt with during her SEX book days.

    Feminists are annoying tbh.
  16. Hellion liked a post in a topic by Poison Ivy in Paradise - Pre-Release Thread
I think Lana simply doesn't adhere much to feminism, but I agree that is not anti-feminist in itself. The only sort of 'anti-feminist' song of hers I can think of is 'This Is What Makes Us Girls' and the quotes like the one Maru mentioned - I think she's sort of projecting her own feelings and attitudes as a girl into what all of us are supposed to be, which of course some women will disagree with because not all of us enjoy being told to "shut up, I got this". If it's right or wrong that Lana or other women like her think this way, it's not my place to tell - I think in a small dose it can be fun, especially when you're young and all, but it can turn much uglier.

However, coming back to anti-feminism, I think Lana just gets a bit carried away with her lyrics and art sometimes and starts saying stuff like [that quote], but I'm sure she is aware it's her own view and she just likes putting these feelings and attitudes in her songs. I think 'tumblr feminists' just have to face that not everyone has the same ideas and standards like them. In a perfect world, everything would be politically correct and it's good to try to 'educate' on this subject, just without imposing their perspective when they don't understand where women like Lana come from.

I don't understand why some of you people continuously try to push her into the role of a feminist when she's clearly not here for it. :imbeingsarcasticbitch2:

I don't understand feminism to be honest. I googled the definition and I'm confused since it's not what all these social justice blogs on Tumblr make it out to be. I guess I'm missing a piece of the puzzle. I don't see anything anti-feminist with Lana being submissive since it's her choice. And isn't that what counts? It's her choice.
