I'll never understand the authenticity woes that surround AKA. She had basically the same name, sound, and covered the same themes in the album, but apparently she and Kahne had creative differences and her deal with the label wasn't going anywhere, so she and her management team began looking for a new deal. Yes, they should have left the album on iTunes, but why does that scream manufactured to some people? The interview with the owner of 5 Points really speaks volumes with regard to this debate.

Minor General Questions that Don't Deserve Their Own Thread

I was hoping you would reply. And I had hoped there would be a few professional reviews since Kill Kill had received a fair amount of attention after its release. Ah well... -
Minor General Questions that Don't Deserve Their Own Thread

Could someone help me find official reviews for Lana's first release? I know there were reviews written after Lana became famous, but I've been looking (in vain) for reviews from 2010. Thanks in advance for any help. -
MPG and BrBa could have been great singles with beautiful videos as well. This era really did have a lot of potential for longevity. Maybe she will pull a BTD on us and release new videos months later.
-
We better get a professional Old Money video. I mean, Lana's aesthetics for her music are what made her such a modern icon. They could have done so much with the UV video. I actually kind of like the video, but it wasn't a good promo move.
-
UV could have done really well with continued support. It's already around 1.3 million WW (Ariana Grande's is at 600K by comparison), which is higher than BTD at this stage but the latter had a lot of factors play into its longevity. The music is also less commercial and sales are down in general.

She really just needs to drop this album independently on her label, release a music video for Chasing Time, and continue touring. No point in putting it off any longer. I've been waiting for years to add this album to my collection.
-
Same here. I listen mainly to classic rock and old jazz and did so long before Lana. UV's instrumentals are clearly influenced by jazz fusion.
-
Yes. Do you own a dog?
-
Some people here apparently don't understand what jazz fusion and blues rock are.

Lana Del Rey to be covered in American Horror Story

Lana's first album was pretty jazzy rock music, and she's always expressed an interest in jazz. I mean, she has "Nina" and "Billie" tattooed over her heart. Tbh, Gaga was just trying to win critics over through a collaboration with Tony, but ended up with a collection of mediocre cover songs that sound more like Macy's elevator music than jazz.

I like it...her voice reminds me of Nico's. I wonder if that was intentional. -

I grew up with family working in the industry in Hollywood and studied film in college, so I'm not exactly unfamiliar with it either. I remember studying a lot of films that used these kinda of devices to convey a point. Arthouse films often stray from chronistic norms. If anything, I would expect a film buff to relish in that kind of artistic expression. -

There's a scene in MA in which the characters dance to Siouxsie and the Banshees. Regardless, it's still an anachronism used for the same purpose. Artistic license and symbolism are important parts of film and television. -

Anachronisms can be very significant motifs in film. Sofia Coppola's Marie-Antoinette embodied this brilliantly and utilized the modern music and speech to portray MA as a relatable, everyday girl trapped in an extraordinary environment. AHS is probably attempting to use music in order to represent those outcasted by society and deemed "freaks" for simply being different. Hence David Bowie, Lana Del Rey, Fiona Apple, etc. -

If that's real, it would be a great song choice, considering the allegorical meaning behind the lyrics. I was hoping UV would get some legitimate promo, though. -
BTD: Million Dollar Man Paradise: Cola UV: Pretty When You Cry or Cruel World (tough one)

It's really off-putting how so many female alt-rock artists went pop because of the sexism in that category. Women are rarely nominated and only Sinead won in the first year of the category. Even Sharon Van Etten went pop and she had one of the best rock albums of the year.
-
People on ATRL saying that wasn't a good performance and she sounded different from the album? -_- It sounded just like the album version minus a wrong lyric. They need lives.
-
Oh my god...that Shades of Cool performance. Incredible. I'm going to show that video to anyone who says she can't sing live from now on.
-
Yeah. She just sang acapella for a soundcheck, though, lol.
