What is actually going on here at this place, like...????

Some of you should really consider stanning for Emile rather than Lana, tbqfh.

The intro of the song is lovely, but afterwards she loses me. In the end, it's not her song, she only gave the vocals and that's okay for me.

The annoying "OMG this is what UV should have sounded like" is so annoying and disrespectful towards Lana with all my respect for different tastes.

Maybe after the next era the annoying loon stans will finally realise that if they wanna stan Loon they should better ditch Lana.

    So... Wow...

I just read through 90% of this thread and....

I gotta say I'm really kind of overwhelmed, shocked and ultimately disappointed by so many of the comments I see here. It would seem that a large majority of the fans here really don't give a fuck about the content or concept of Lana's music as long as we "get a new look for the era" or she stops doing "boring jazz" (which is an oxymoron) or she stops wearing "jeans and tshirts" or starts "using makeup." Again and again the comments here read like a tug of war with everyone pulling her in all different directions. This is one of the first times I have ever truly hoped she does not ever read this forum. There used to be a lot of constructive, thought out criticism here from people who had a wealth of knowledge about music- from genre specialties to music history- and could discuss Lana's work in an interesting way. People could really discuss the cultural significance of what she was doing or dissect her lyrics. This is all just like... "stan" vomit. And if Lana were to ever read through this... Wow... I can't imagine. I would be SO uninspired to see what my fans were discussing and valuing about my art. It's not that there is criticism- I have read thoughtful critiques on her work here before that I wish Lana could/would read because I think they would inspire her so much. However, so many of the comments here miss the mark completely on what is important. She is an ARTIST. Allow an artistic process to HAPPEN. She is not your barbie doll to dress up and style. She is a person who is trying to communicate her soul through a difficult business called the Music Industry that has become LESS and LESS about the actual music.

Do you guys see how so many of us have been conditioned to value the PACKAGE over the PRODUCT in this industry? They are destroying our minds and our ability to appreciate diversity and art in the music world. By us placing so much emphasis on how she looks, we keep perpetuating the kind of business models that starved funding our of Ultraviolence. Labels send interns onto forums like this to get a read on what the fan bases are looking for, what they want. The music industry has taught you to care more about Lana's hair than her words, so now when a label lackey comes on here to read through this garbage, what they will report back to their bosses is "They want a pretty girl, the music seems so secondary." This means, ultimately, more label control. The label could pressure Lana into a package she isn't comfortable with and as a result, we get a less authentic and self-expressing artist.

This is all hypothetical, but this is how things happen. Consumers of art need to seriously take more responsibility when using their voice.

I can't imagine how I would feel if I read through pages and pages of comments that missed the point of what I do completely. I would be completely devastated and hollow.

(Not to say that EVERY post was like this, but I'm just highlighting a few that really stuck with me. Come on guys, we can do better than this. And I'm not even saying Lana's look isn't important to some degree- as she has often used it as an extension of expression of the music. But come on, some of these comments... We are smarter than that and we care about Lana's authentic expression more than that... right?)

(this will be a long post)

Ultraviolence may not have been full of hits but it was by no means an unlistenable album. She definitely surprised (and turned) a lot of detractors who dismissed her as a record-label android.

All of you guys whining about flop this, Ultraviolence shitty videos that, seem to have forgotten how rough Lana's start in this business was. She was accused of the worst things - being a fraud, being a liar, being untalented, and being a woman hater. And that's just the tip of the iceberg of what was said about her. She somehow managed to come out of that and answer those people with a brilliant album (it may not be for everyone, I understand this) that showed her versatility as a musician and her moxie, not allowing the thirsty tendencies of record labels cloud her vision. Ultraviolence did not put a dent in her career. It earned her some clout and we ALL know it.

I get that Lana has younger fans - I'm the same age as Lana so who knows what you'd consider me. But you guys quickly seem to forget what Lana has stood for since the beginning. And it was never high budget, #1 singles, coture dresses, or god forbid, doing things just so people could buy it. This is the same girl who made videos on iMovie for christ sakes. She's not Gaga or Taylor Swift, she's a creator. The girl makes her money where she needs to. The rest of the time she's making art the only way she knows how to do it, and that's why I love her. When she's given a budget - she's a fucking legend. But you're gonna have to get used to her not always being that. She's more rock n roll than she is pop - regardless of what the purists say.

So that's why the Mariah Carey dude's comments rub me the wrong way. it's like - why do you even like this woman? Worshipping Mariah Carey makes all the sense in the world given the things you say - but LANA?

I really hope she was referring to the cinematic sound of the Born to Die album and not the hip-hop/trip-hop/pop production. It was cute (and largely responsible for her huge fan base) but I just don't find that interesting anymore. I think she sounds better with the alt sound, so hopefully she sticks with the whole Orchestral/Grunge/Jazz fusion, minus the drowning reverb.

Also it would be nice to hear something lyrically different, but the Honeymoon title suggests it will have her recurring themes. I wish she would return to the bizarre surreal druggy imagery she had in her earlier demos/songs. There was something so mysterious and otherworldly about them, even though they were about men, and they made no sense, there was still something so captivating about how she strung all those words together and made this world that was so fitting for her.

Anyway, I think that Honeymoon is a lovely title. Has this been included in some of her fake/rumored tracklists? Excited to hear she's doing another jazz cover. The Other Women had potential and the horns were wonderful, but her timing was off and it just didn't sound as great as it could have been. I still listen to it though, but hopefully this one is an improvement.

Well the Lana I know will never be the artist you dream of. She doesn't have a pop star's confidence and frankly she's not putting up a show for the non-hardcore fan. Her concerts are like gatherings with her fans, singalongs where she often seems disconnected or disoriented (forgiven by her fans). She's not behaving like an entertainer and I think that she believes that she's more than an entertainer and doesn't take this part seriously. I love her voice but in my opinion she's not the best singer live (technically). She knows that and that's why she chickened out from all the live performances that were on TV for the promotion of UV (Letterman, Le Grand Journal etc. sick my ass). She had not sung on TV or big musical bonanzas in the last two years. At Glastonbury her voice was all over the place (I saw the live stream in HD and she was awful). She can sing but she has no confidence and professionalism regarding her performances so she's just half of the artist that you want her to be. I believe that she will not sing at the Golden Globes or Oscars and I doubt that she will even attend unless she will dragged there by Harvey. You know another pop artist who wouldn't perform all the late night shows with her arguably great Golden Globe nominated song? Let face it she will make another studio album that will not include any big hit that will demand live performances that she's not willing to do. I love her anyway but I don't have unrealistic expectations from her

U will be so disappointed because this album probably won't sound anything like your beloved BTD.

It's just the same as last year. People were expecting from Dan to come up with a production style close to Paradise and he didn't. Mark Ronson won't either.

And then the BTD lovers will all be pissed again.

Don't want a BTD 2.0. That would be ridiculous and personally I don't think she'd go there.

When I first heard about Honeymoon earlier today, I immediately thought about how she changed her Insta-pic to Lizzy and Chuck posted a Lizzy pic too. I thought of Surf Noir Lizzy Grant in a cheap hotel on the Las Vegas Strip with her heroin fiend boyfriend. Lana's a little twisted, and her idea of a Honeymoon came to my mind as a drug-filled fuck fest...

New album is titled Honeymoon and is "similar in style to Born to Die and Paradise". Lana covers the song "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood" on it. The album is more "noirish" than Ultraviolence. Nine songs have been written for the album, four of which "the production is perfect; I'm looking for a few more songs to tie together".
"I Can Fly" was adapted for Big Eyes - she had originally written (and made?) a version of it, but then changed the lyrics to match Margaret Keane's story.

I wouldn't be surprised if Weinstein did buy her a place on the nomination list as someone mentioned previously above. I'm happy that she's getting noticed, but I'm disappointed that it had to be "Big Eyes." I was hoping if she'd ever got a nomination it would be for a very haunting ballad (similar to Video Games, Young & Beautiful [Trailer Version], Old Money, Once Upon a Dream). I always wanted her to leave a great impression at these award shows and "Big Eyes" just doesn't do that. It doesn't carry that same weight of cinematic elegance. I've only listened to the song twice and I have no interest in adding it to my playlist, but I have it in a folder for my LDR collection.

Lorde's song is okay and there is a chance that she might win. She has more popularity and is tied in with a popular movie, but Taylor Swift didn't win when she was nominated, so who knows. If both of them don't, then the Annie song "Opportunity" might. I think it's cute.

I'll be very happy for Lana if she does win and I'm sure she'll have a very lovely speech. And as childish as this sounds, I want to see Lorde's fake ass smile watching Lana ascend the stairs to accept the award (Weinstein purchased or not).

I was going to first send this as a status update, then I was going to post it in the Thread for Minor General Questions That Don't Deserve Their Own Thread thread, but then I thought this could cause a big discussion so I created its own thread. If any Mods seem to disagree, they can, of course, move this into the TFMGQTDDTOT thread.

Alright, so there's songs like Push Me Down and lyrics like I like it when you treat me mean from Hundred Dollar Bill and the Hit me and tell me "You're mine!" line from the Diet Mountain Dew demo. And then there's the Hit me and it felt like a kiss line that Lana quotes in several songs. There's also her response to when an interviewer asked her why she's always choked in her music videos, and her response being: "I like a little hardcore love".
Is this chick into B.D.S.M. or what?
The whole "Daddy" nickname mightn't only reference Lolita but also B.D.S.M.-like relationships. Now, I don't know much about all of this but I know "Daddy: is a common title of the male if he is the dominant.
Discuss whether you think Lana might be into this stuff or not

It was a couple weeks after she had just put out the Lana Del Ray album and before she yanked it from itunes. I remember going on youtube, watching her videos and wondering if some fan edited them. After watching Yayo, I was completely under her spell. I downloaded the whole album then.
