Oh definitely. The questions are so invasive too like where do you get the right to ask her about some stupid theory that she was in a relationship with her teacher? I just don't get it. It's honestly disrespectful. People seem to think they're entitled to dig so deep into Lana's personal life and it's gross.

I love the part she said here which is so fucking true:

"I find the nature of the questions difficult. 'Cause it's not like I'm a rock band and you're asking how everything got made and what it's like touring in arenas and what are the girls like. It's about my father. It's about my mental health. It's fucking personal."

I think Lana's just really volatile when it comes to interviews. She so clearly just wants to be left alone but I think she definitely wants to get her story across but she just doesn't know how to phrase it and it makes her frustrated when journalists focus on the same shit.

Well fuck. This reporter sure spent a lot of time scooping around the internet but mainly this forum because I actually gasped at the part where he brought up the whole "infamous" teacher/student relationship Lana was supposedly had going on with that dude + the pro ana lyrics which I think have been discussed here before and the part where he mentioned the fwuttt possibly being about Lorde which I really think is fucked up to put that in an article that's going to be read by so many people and start drama, where people might actually credit Rolling Stone and say that's it's somehow confirmed ugh.  Especially when it's basically one of the dumbest and most reaching theories I've heard.

Also I was honestly going to say this interview is amazing and so informative to people who don't really have a lot of knowledge about Lana other than her music but then It was ruined by that ending....? ugh. Mess.

I don't know if I should be annoyed with Lana for being unprofessional and dramatic or that reporter for actually including that in the article like wtf did she really leave that bad of an impression on you? Because it really does seem like he just added that last part about her slamming the door in his face as some sort of dramatic conclusion in some cheap soap opera that's probably never happened irl but is supposed to leave some sort of impact on you. Yikes. Lana never seems to get it right with these interviews at all....i feel bad for her.

The German and European critics/journalists are generally more positive and open-minded of Lana and her music, though. The US media in contrast is less forgiving as we all know by now, at least when it comes to Lana.

Thats actually so incredibly true and brutally honest, she deserves respect for saying that. It makes prefect sense.

May Jailer songs are really something. Good old Classic Folk-rock with beautiful poetic lyrics. That girl is a natural!

From the looks of this forum this is probably going to be the most unpopular opinion but I have never ever listened to a Lana song I hate OTL I love all of her work, just not equally ._.

Another unpopular opinion: Put Me In A Movie is the best song on LDR AKA LG and the demo is the penultimate Lana song.

I mean DANIEL that is how a label works! And I'm sure this little article won't make it easier for Lana next time around.. oh well they r both ugly but they have the music so who cares.
  15. Wilde_child liked a post in a topic by Linethic in Dan Auerbach Speaks About "Ultraviolence" Label Issues
Lana Del Rey's new album, Ultraviolence, qualifies as a radical statement from a pop star in 2014 – it's mostly produced by Black Keys frontman Dan Auerbach, who relies on electric guitar and other live instruments, and none of its eleven tracks sound much like a potential radio hit. And as Auerbach reveals in Rolling Stone's new Del Rey cover story, her major labels (Interscope and the U.K.'s Polydor) were initially resistant to the idea of releasing it.

"There was a lot of bullshit I'm not used to," Auerbach tells senior writer Brian Hiatt. "The label says, 'We're not going to give you the budget to extend this session unless we hear something.' And we send them the rough mix and they fucking hate it and they hate the way it's mixed. And it's like, 'Thanks, asshole.'… I think Lana put her foot down. Maybe it's normal for her, but it's not normal for me.  Really rubbed me the wrong way.  I got really defensive because I thought it was bullshit.

"The story I got told," he continues, "is that they played it for her label person and they said, "We're not putting out this record that you and Dan made unless you meet with the Adele producer. And she said, 'Fine, whatever.' And she was late to the meeting, so while they were waiting, the label guy played what we recorded for the Adele producer and he said, 'This is amazing, I wouldn't do anything to change this.' And here's the kicker: Then all of a sudden, the label guy said, 'Well, yeah, I think it's great, too.'"

Del Rey acknowledges a six-week period this past spring when Ultraviolence was in limbo. "I mean, I think there were people they wanted me to work with," she says. "I don't know who they were. When I said I was ready, they were like, 'Are you sure?'" She laughs. "'Because I feel like you could go further.'"

"I had heard about some back and forth regarding the music," responds Interscope chief John Janick.  "But from the moment I met Lana, I've been of the mindset that she has an instinct that is pretty dead on and as an artist, she is fully formed.  She knows her vision and her audience, and it's up to us to follow her lead on that."

"On this album, in my opinion, you didn't want her to try to do something," adds Janick's predecessor, Jimmy Iovine. "I felt she hit a bull's-eye. Everybody's saying to me, 'We need a single,' calling me from Europe. I said, 'You don't need anything.' It's a very coherent body of work, and thought any other conversation was a distraction."

In any case, the album debuted at Number One in June, selling 182,000 copies – and Auerbach is now a huge fan of his collaborator. "Every criticism that I'd ever heard about her was proven wrong when I was in the studio with her," he says. "From how great the songs were to how confident she is as a musician to her fucking singing every song live, with a handheld microphone and a seven-piece band. I mean, get the fuck out of here, who does that? Nobody does that, there hasn't been a number one pop record that was recorded like that in forty, fifty years."

Well, WC is ... atmospheric. But that's it.  Not that Beyonce's videos would be very special or anything ....
The Blue Jeans video by Woodkid was also "just" atmospheric, however it had much more interesting shoots and scenes, even if it was just Lana swimming in a pool with some crocodiles and a tatooed guy.
West Coast has some nice shots and it fits the music, but .. yeah, could have definitly been better and more diverse

But if i had to judge about "good musicvideos", I would rather chose things in the style of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs "Sacrilege" ... It's really like some sort of short movie with some interesting cutting-technique. Without taking the focus away from the song, or featuring thousands of "music-less" scenes or monologues ....

So I wouldn't say "Music world is not prepared for Lana's WEST COAST" video, since even if you are a huge fan of it, you can't deny it's not very spectacular or original.

Shades Of Cool would have told a story without being super-straightforward and it's very cinematic. Shame they didn't nominated this one ....

Whoever this professor of hers was, he must be a manipulative fucker... reading Lolita to a teen and making out with her... sounds like abuse to me. I'd punch his face. Even tho Lolita is my fave novel since I was 12, someone playing Humbert disgusts me.

Of course she was a very bright girl but also the romantic type, I imagine. Like I was. Plus those teen hormones...  we get crazy! I used to fall for my Lit teachers but they never crossed the line. Older guys and very young  girls' relationships are dangerous and fucked up IMHO.   That said, I think Lolita the song is quite poetic, but I would rather think it is just fiction...

I got the idea that Ultraviolence isn't supposed to be about the lyrics really. But more about the music and the flow and feeling. Al the chaotic instrumentals, the tempo changes, it presents her state of mind at different times in her life or even in moments. We know Lana can write really well, so I think all the repeating is done on purpose, to shift the focuse from the lyrics on to the flow of the song itself. I think it's also why a lot of the vocals are drowned out by the instrumentals. It's not meant to be carefully listened to, to understand the lyrics, it's meant to be felt.

I just don't get why most of the fans hate/dislike the lyrics on Ultraviolence. They're WAAAY better than Born to Die. I don't know, I feel like they're more honest. Pretty When You cry is fantastic, Old Money is like  , Ultraviolence is one of the best lyrics every, West Coast is amazing, & more...

    And another one:
I actually like Sirens and I don't get why so many don't. Maybe the reason is that I did never put the songs in one album or playlist, if you listen to all of them in a row it may really get boring but I got to know it song by song (not knowing about the May Jailer thing at all) and after listening to them several times I loved every one of them. Especially the lyrics and melodies are magnificent imo.

Body Electric feels like Trash Magic Part 2 to me and I love that. The song is super good, both the live and released versions.

I prefer Lana's natural, stripped-back look from the UV era to the beauty queen look of BtD.

I enjoyed Tropico. The first time I watched it, I didn't understand it, but rewatching it now, I think it's amazing.

Not an opinion, but I've never seen Lana live (apart from Youtube videos). Tickets are just way too expensive
