She's such a good person! I heard she once worked as a social worker. Guess if she wouldn't have made it to the singer we all love, she'd be a wonderful streetworker too!

Whoever this professor of hers was, he must be a manipulative fucker... reading Lolita to a teen and making out with her... sounds like abuse to me. I'd punch his face. Even tho Lolita is my fave novel since I was 12, someone playing Humbert disgusts me.

what if lana knows we have this thread and decided to fuck with us like always and while writing uv she said to herself these little bitches are obsessed with k and jim and my teacher lover and everything i do. i can probably blow inside a bottle and they'll buy it. so ill just name drop Jim and have him open up for me for a few shows and sit back and watch these bitches spiral out of control until they eventually lose it. Cause trust no one.

Sorry for Off-Topic, but I would consider a love story to be at least consensual. But it isn't.  Lolita does not love Humbert, she runs away from him, the moment she sees the chance to do it. Don't forget we only see Lolita through the eyes of Humbert - who is captured in his own desires and fantasies. He objectifies Lolita to please his fantasies, even though on the surface he cares for her.

People who claim Humbert isn't pedophile haven't read the book I think... Like wtf didn't you understand about the 'nymphets'? Or the story with Annabel? He wanted to murder her mother to be alone with her - a true ladykiller.

The actual interesting thing is Lolita! And the fact the reader does not really know what's going on inside of her makes this thing a masterpiece! Like why the heck she has the desire to sleep with Humbert, why does she run from one old psycho man to another? Having sexual experiences even before Humbert..

Although kind of weird, we can't accuse Him of doing anything because we don't know what happened between them. And I wouldn't take Lana as an teenager with no intelligence. She could've exploited his feelings for her own personal gain, she could've also ruined his life by reporting him. I personally doubt that they had a physical relationship but that's the point of the thread lol.

I understand it comes off like it, but it doesn't seem like it tbh, Lana is no fool and the way she talks about him doesn't seem to indicate he was an old perv

exactly my problem. i don't blame lana or any young girl for having an obsessive crush on their teacher, but he obviously stepped over the line. actually the way lana talks about lolita is pretty disgusting. she thinks it's a love story for crying out loud. no doubt because of that teacher.

I fell madly in love with AKA and BTD. Paradise just never struck the same chord.
I'm hoping Ultraviolence will entice me so much I'll just play it endlessly for months.

I don't see why Lana would need to change the name. We all know that anything she says/sings sounds like silk so even if the person was someone named Greg or Allen whatever, she would make it work with the song. It is interesting though that she could have just said "he" taught me that rather than a name but, it wouldn't tell as much of a story.

Ultraviolence is obviously about a toxic relationship that both people are addicted to. Because, while Jim seems to be abusive it sounds like she was no better saying lines such as "He used to call me DN, that stood for deathly night shade" doesn't really paint a picture of someone who's nice. Obviously they're both crazy for eachother in the worst way. This song is seriously dark just like she promised. She literally wants to run back to him she can't keep that feeling away she wants it back she wants the Ultraviolence. The crazy toxic life they had together. It's almost like a drug that kind of feeling.

That's just what I think of the song though personally.

I heard that Jimmy Gnecco is the inspiration for the song Ultraviolence...  UV is about her being in an abusive relationship.  I have heard that it is about Jimmy, and that makes since because she references "Jim" a few times during the song... But that would mean Jimmy was an abusive boyfriend (now ex, since she is dating Barrie).  She has played a few shows with Jimmy recently, so if Jimmy is the UV guy, why would Lana even want to be around him and I don't think Barrie would let her...  So what do you think?  Has she dated Jimmy?  Because she has a song called Jimmy Gnecco, that would make sense.  If anyone could clear this up for me, that'd be great.

Who's excited for UV?  Lol, dumb question, I know we all are!!  What song are you excited to hear most?  I think Guns and Roses, because it just sounds appealing.

First of all, I am sorry for ruining the row of comments about who Jim is (which are great, keep the analysis coming!). Anyways, I remember that I once read what Lana said about 'Million Dollar Man' and it was this quote:

"It's a song about a man who thought I was one of the most exotic things he had ever seen and me indulging in his appreciation and love. On the outside he was handsome and wholesome, but under wraps he was running an illegal electronic business which ended up taking him and his friends under."

Could this be K? I think he is Lana's only boyfriend who went in prison.

Because Jim is the perfect American Dream name and she probably made him up obv she says her songwriting is autobiographical but I don't think it is with this one and I hope it's just an exaggerated version of her life like it usually is lol

Okay, just throwing this out there about Ultraviolence.

She sings about "Jim", and the natural conclusion is to jump to Jimmy Gnecco. HOWEVER, in the french magazine interview she referred to Barrie as James, which is his middle name. Which means, the Jim she sings about in Ultraviolence, COULD be Barrie as a James could be nick named Jim. I might be completely off, but it's just a thought.

All I can think of is ...

You wish and wish, and wish again
You've tried so hard to fly
You'll never leave your body now
You've got to wait to die

La la la la la la la la la la (x2)
La la la la la (x2)
Silly Boy Blue, silly Boy Blue

Child of Tibet, you're a gift from the sun
    Reincarnation of one better man
    The homeward road is long
You've left your prayers and song
Silly Boy Blue, silly Boy Blue

The road is long, we carry on
Try to have fun in the meantime

Come on take a walk on the wild side
Let me kiss you hard in the pouring rain
    You like your girls insane
Choose your last words, this is the last time
Cause you and I, we were born to die

lana likes blue sonically... visually ... lyrically. Lana wants to make blue beautiful and a work of art.

Lana is the female, younger, songwriter version of Vladimir Nabokov!
