Paris, Manhattan ... I know she is stressed out and is having health issues and such, but I would like to be in her shoes for a few days.

Born To Die - not surprising in any way. And if I'm that video, I expect to find that white dress in my closet later. "You're a matter-of-fact kind of person, smart and you keep a low profile most of the time. When you let someone get close to you, however, you'll share your deepest darkest secrets and show an intimate involvement. You think a lot and it sometimes causes you to get depressed. You're extremely romantic and you find beauty in every tragedy, even when it breaks your heart at first. Don't forget to come out of your own world sometimes, others would really appreciate your calm yet dreamy personality!"

I hate what she said about her fans in Rolling Stones - about how she wishes no one would think about or listen to her songs. I get the art being selfish part, it often is, but I'm hoping so much she didn't mean that about not wanting people to care. I also REALLY wish she would do concerts for 21 and over, because it would - hopefully - create smaller and quieter crowds. This is NOTHING against anyone younger than 21, I just would like that to happen because I like tame shows! And, finally, I wish she would quit smoking. I understand why she smokes onstage, but I'm worried about her voice. haha Lana in general has ruined me on other artists. I'm a huge music person, but all I can listen to is Lana right now, and everything else seems less important. She's like crack.

I love the whole thing, but in particular: Will you still love me when I shine from words and not from beauty? * Those summer nights seem long ago so is the girl you used to call the Queen of New York City * And if you send for me, you know I'll come and if you call for me, you know I'd run I'll run to you, I'll run to you, I'll run run run I'll come to you, I'll come to you, I'll come come come

It is H&M for sure, but it's not available now ... I've hunted high and low. I'm sure it will come up on amazon or something someday, though.

http://www.ralphlauren.com/product/index.jsp?productId=41332236&parentPage=family Is it this one? I see maybe some SMALL differences, but it looks pretty similar. Or this one: http://www1.macys.com/shop/product/denim-supply-ralph-lauren-long-sleeve-shawl-cardigan?ID=1641225&CategoryID=260&LinkType=#fn=GENDER_AGE%3DWomen%26PRODUCT_DEPARTMENT%3DSweaters%26sp%3D1%26spc%3D26%26kws%3Dralph%20lauren%20denim%20and%20co%26slotId%3D

If you click on each picture in this link, you will see a list of each item she wore in the FASHION: CANADA shoot. Some in insanely expensive, some is surprisingly affordable. http://www.fashionmagazine.com/fashion/2014/08/26/lana-del-rey-fashion-magazine-cover-shoot-2/slide/lana-del-rey-cover-photo-shoot/

She quotes Walt Whitman a lot, as well as other poets. "Life imitates art" is a quote Oscar Wilde; I believe it's from from Dorian Gray. I consider her a true original, but that doesn't mean she doesn't "borrow" from the greats. That being said, I really love the lyrics to Black Beauty, Young And Beautiful, Oh Say Can You See, Old Money, Last Girl In The World, National Anthem, Born To Die, Dark Paradise, Butterflies, Blue Jeans ... and so many others, but those are what come to mind instantly.

She has a lot of things from American Apparel - I bought the shirt she wears on the Born To Die cover ... over my price range, but I love it. There are a few sites that track her clothing, but nothing really solid. Here is a good link, although there are others I can't recall atm. Her perfume is Creed and lipstick Yves St. Laurent. Darn! That's what I thought it meant, too. This thread is enlightening me. I kept thinking of revolution and V For Vendetta and it all made sense. Now I'm a bit disappointed.

You guys HAVE to look at these lyrics ... it was a sheer coincidence I was reading this forum and listening to this song then looked up at the screen to see the lyrics ... they got pretty much everything wrong.
-
Right?!! I read the Born To Die booklet and couldn't believe some of the sh*t in there - I don't know if she changed stuff or if it was a mistake, but if it's a mistake it's a bad one to make on two albums. omg I needed that laugh tonight. All of these are great, but this is my favorite. I think I prefer this misheard version. haha

I really love this video; think it's one of her best -- it feels like the beginning of a bad relationship, the beautiful start when everything is perfect and happy ... when you have NO idea it's about to go really wrong. The long walk to the church is very meditative, laced with moments of joy and moments of melancholy. Then she arrives at the altar, the dove is on the floor, and there is no one there, and you realize she wasn't walking towards anything after all. It reminds me of the last page of the Great Gatsby, when Nick says that Gatsby thought he had everything before him, when in reality it was already behind him.

Anything, anything at all, that wasn't released or leaked from Ultraviolence. But ALL of them, naturally. I want to hear everything she's done!

Oh and "Money hunny" is very beautiful ...

I didn't like Sirens very much the first listen, but I became obsessed pretty fast. Same with Forever Angels - took me a few tries, but now it's one of my favorites. I think the two I REALLY didn't like much but LOVE now are Cola and Guns And Roses.

I'm sorry if this has already been posted somewhere ... EVERY time I see Lana sing "Without You" she tears up at "can you picture it, that life we could have lived." Any idea why? I can't figure out if this song is about alcohol or K. or something else entirely.
-
I LOVE that song so much! It's so playful. Angels Forever (LOVE!) Hollywood Never Let Me Go Backfire Kinda Outta Luck Paris
-
I wonder that, too - I've never seen an artist use an exact lyric and melody in two songs.

It seems like the start of what turns into an abusive relationship. The end hints at a darker progression of the relationship. You get a happy bride, a sensual woman, in love and getting married - but by the end, she's kneeling ALONE in church, a white dove on the floor, turning back to look ... at what? Her past? Peering into her future? It's gorgeous; this might be my new favorite Lana video after Born To Die. The simplicity, the haunting vibe, the vague sense of creepiness - it's just perfect. And WOW she has never looked better!

So beautiful ...

WOW yes, I meant Ultraviolence. For some reason, last night I thought it was Cruel World. It was late.

I've always assumed it's a critique on modern ideals of wealth and power - an Oscar Wilde-esque approach if I ever saw one, but still. It's so very very shallow, and she does not come across as a shallow woman at all. "Before we go out, what's your address" - the lower an address is in wealthy areas, the more wealthy the inhabitants of the home, at least here in Michigan with waterfront property. It's a classic "I'll only date you if you're rich" line. And on and on with all of the sacchrine references to diamonds, money, sex, and class. It's amazing. I love this piece so much! I know she stated she loved the idea of being a man's "national anthem," of having that kind of importance in someone's life, but it goes so far beyond that. It's a scathing critique of society and how people are just into money instead of love.
-
I wondered how many others noticed that she slipped in a lyric from "F***ed My Way Up To The Top" in here. "Lay me down tonight, with my linens and curls," comes in very softly a couple of times towards the end. I listened to this song about a dozen times before I noticed that.
-
For me, it feels like she is telling someone of more wealth and society than she had to just relax and live a little. To be suburban instead of white collar. That's how I see it: "have something to drink and be lower class with the rest of us."
