No, this superior attitude of hers is definitely new.

I can never understand why people get soooo pressed when people criticise her. You actually can be both a fan AND critical of some of her words and actions.

Props to the people who actually construct counter arguments instead of the blanket "u R a H8eR aNd I dOn'T lIKe iT" nonsense.

Blaming "SJW culture" for people not being sychophants, I really have to laugh.

I think I can speak for a lot of people when I say that getting the response of "you just want her to be depressed" is so, so tiring. I don't. But I also know that casting yourself in some curse-of-cassandra role, blaming other people entirely, constantly thinking of yourself as a victim of society and "the culture" and never questioning yourself, your motives, your actions, and whether you're right about things isn't a sign of happiness. She literally says in the interview "I don't feel like I'm doing okay. I just know now that I'm always right." That isn't a sign of someone getting better or "being confident", and from the fact she goes on to talk about the virus and trump and stuff she isn't just talking about women singing sexually or whatever (which she also absolutely did not invent). She's projecting out a shit ton, which again she says nearly verbatim. If you read this and came away thinking that she's just happy and confident I really don't know what to say other than maybe read it again.

It's not unheard of for people to think of themselves both as a victim and as a mega-genius. The two go very much hand in hand.

"Blowing up her own ego" is exactly the main impression I got from this article. Even if I enjoyed the parts where she discusses music or some aspects regarding daily life, the fact that her and Jack act as if they were some kind of omniscent genius bugs me off. Lana talks as she's eaten all the stuff the critics said about her last year ("a laureate poet of a world on fire" or whatever), and Im happy that she acknowledges she is talented, but what made me feel close to her since I knew her was how foot-on-earth she was, and how self-aware of her ignorance on some topics she seemed to be too, as it seemed to push her to explore deeper from her artistic perspective. She's always had a quite intuitive way to approach to reality, even if not always educated, she's always been good intentioned and sharp in her own ways, and I've always appreciated that honesty a lot. Now reading her talking about how she thinks she knows about everything while dropping the comment on how people will look more on genetics to know about their psychological issues... She obviously isnt aware still, at her 35 years, that most people in the world arent ruminating at their LA mansions about the "culture", but facing huge structural problematics related to the possibility and struggle to materially survive, and that mental health may have a lot more to with that than with intuitive healers or whatever she thinks she knows and we dont.
She's definetly eccentric and has a quite egotic and privileged way to look at the world, and I guess that may be part of her enchantment as weird and genial as she is. Not genial on the omniscently way she thinks she is, but in the confusing, sensitive and beautiful sense I think she gets to approach to the world.
She's random, clumsy and very smart too. Truly wanting to listen to whatever she's been working on.

I guess it makes sense that she reacted to the backlash earlier this year the way that she did if she thinks that singing about being crazy a hundred times over is equivalent to singing about domestic crises? All of her vaguely "political" songs delve into a very isolated focus at some point, focusing on just her feelings with the real world stuff just as a catalyst and not the focus at all, which is why I maintain that they're not political songs - she never gives a real point of view. And that's fine because that's how a lot of people feel and it's part of why people are drawn to her. But trying to claim that she "knew we weren't ready" and had been singing about it for years? I really think she thinks she's this generations Bob Dylan from how much she brings him up in relation to her and I don't think she'll really be of much interest to me for as long as she continues blowing up her own ego. Especially when she reacts to people's pain with god bless and fuck off. Glad we got some insight on the album, and thank you to Elle for writing this up, but she's becoming more and more of a warning against resting on your own laurels and surrounding yourself with yesmen.

i cannot believe i’ve come into this thread and people are fighting over how she posted an image of mourning. get fucking jobs. she can caption it how she wants or not. if people don’t understand and comment something /technically/ insensitive who cares. this is such a non problem.

She posted it with literally zero context, the post being posted along with the story made me think she was just doing a promotion for a small business owner or something. Not everyone is going to try and figure out why she posts what she does idk.

it does make sense though, as people will know about the audiobook and if they liked the track they'll check it out. there's a reason why it has "from the audio book violet bent..." in the title

Okay but one would expect to see some sort of positive personal growth, rather than negative.

And before we do the nOt aLl cOpS aRe bAd thing, I have dm's that people from Tulsa sent me on Twitter about how he allegedly put people's lives at risk to get out of that indictment, and all sorts of other shit. He's NOT one of the good ones ... he does NOT get it ...

dragging someone for the way they look is pathetic and if that’s the only way you can start a discussion then you need to get a life
yall always have to find something to disagree with, i said what i said. talk about how good lana looks or something instead of picking on someone’s looks. weirdo.

a lot of you gay men that have literally zero understanding of makeup and lashes have a lot to say on this woman’s appearance.

again, gay men say some of the most misogynistic people i’ve ever seen. do you guys stop to think about what your saying about this woman’s appearance before you post? jesus christ. and you damn well know her and her management see this forum.

Yeah someone found that around the time that her baddie friends surfaced. It is (and was) really obvious that they were selling Lanz out to the paps, but some people wouldn't have it ...

    Patent Leather Do-Over

    Sylvia
I knew what you meant when you talked about swimming in the ocean and leaving your patent leather black shoes pointed towards it while you swam
It tickled you to leave them there
It was the thought of a young child
    or of a lost fairy
It reminded me of who I am
That's why I'm now at this facility by the ocean
And why I go barefoot and why I go calmly
Why I leave my shoes up by the stairway
I do it for you and I do it for me
because having learned from others and from you
I learned there was a missing piece to finding existential calmness and and domestic bliss to lead to peace
You see, you cant fall in love with a man like Ted or a musician who sings about being free
A woodworker doesn't a good man make if he wants his work to be on TV
You have to separate the wheat from the chaff
    You have to be discerning
It takes diligence, consequence and other things to keep that sea from churning
and to keep yourself from longing to let those painted waves take you under
It isn't just the water black that makes the body plunder
    from high sea cliffs
    I know, my dear
I wish that I had been here
    or there
I wish that you were here now
    If you're not now
because who knows how these things work?
    Sylvia, Marilyn, Violet, Diana
    All of my kind women
    Who came before me
    Blonde
I dyed my hair black for you
I turned my back in that black pond
I swear I wont stop until I'm dead
and here I am at 34
    and what for?
To bring my pair of baby pattern leather shoes to turn them the other way
towards the sea cliff stairs, not at the ocean
To bring them back up safe to the facility instead
and I think of you as I walk to the 280 wooden steps dynamited into the cliffs 100 years before
I let myself into room 2 and got undressed
    I was sunburnt
    Contemplative and sore
    and as I fell asleep
    by Gabapentin
I lay my head on the pillow
and stretched my hand out on the cool white linen
and sang you a lemon melody
I kept the shoes on the sill by the window seat
in case you got restless and wanted to leave
and I hugged you with my baby's breath
and sang your spirit to bed
the way I would have if you were my child
    or if I had children
My Queen Anne's lace heart weightless on your little head

i was thinking about this today, kinda. in my view the israel thing was infinitely worse & didn't get anywhere near the backlash this did. personally, it was the closest i ever got to unstanning her (and by this i mean downright stop listening to her music) - and tbh if she hadn't canceled the show, even if she did so with a lame ass excuse, i probably would've.

not to say she didn't do/say anything wrong this time, but ultimately the victims/targets of her ignorance and tone deafness here are rich, famous, successful women. in the israel debacle she showed a total disregard for the lives of oppressed, colonized, poor civilians & an unwillingness to listen to those who tried to explain to her why it was wrong to perform there.

this is not an invitation to discuss the israel-palestine conflict, btw. i've learned my lesson re: discussing politics on lb. my point is that this goes to show how hypocritical and performative a lot of these concerned responses are, how people care so very much when it's a pop culture matter & someone they idolize is being targeted, but not when it affects regular brown people dying in another continent.
