Blue Banisters - Pre-Pre-Release Thread

What if the label is fucking around with her this time because Chemtrails era was so scandalous Imagine Lana actually being shrewd in a business meeting like the way Taylor is known for -

nobody noticed that the sirens in a Lorde song were sirens from NYC protests and that she thought it was nice to record the “sound of summer” Why does Lana have to be so straightforward in her lyrics -
My secondary thoughts are that I don’t think this album connects to me as much as PH/Melo. I’m about the same age as Lorde, but God I wish I had her life, just ~living~ in New Zealand. ?? Solar Power is a good album! Not worth the 4 year wait though

Hmm, I don’t like Fallen Fruit that much because it feels a little juvenile to me. Have to try again. Same for Secrets from a Girl with that outro. I liked the deluxe tracks a lot though. I love Big Star especially because it’s about her dog (Eclipse also said that there would be no sad songs about Pearl ?). I also love California, more than Mood Ring. The Path is top tier. I also liked Leader of a New Regime. It’s very Bowie to me, maybe it’s a little under baked.

Solar Power sounds like an opting out from wider pop culture altogether. It’s a musical resignation letter, advising her fans to look elsewhere for a saviour in the first song. from the Evening Standard review tbh I kinda saw the lyricism backlash happening. I think people in general are easily impressed with “teens wise beyond their years” because youth, beauty, the more uniform experience of teenagers whereas if you’re in your mid-20’s, sounding wise beyond your years makes you sound old and “outdated” if that makes any sense.

Boz said Fallen Fruit is a career highlight
-
The insiders say the singles are representative of the album’s sound…Eclipse is the only insider so far who loves the album too
-
I haven’t found the 70’s folk-psychedelic influence in SP like Eclipse described… Everybody is talking about the 90’s/00’s influence more

I understand that interpretation. What I don’t get is the idea that it’s satire or critique of the wellness culture because Lorde has been giving that vibe unironically. Existentialism is also a hard feeling to sing to.

omg WHERE what a brutal description for Lorde
-
I really like the vibe I too miss the acoustic driven pop of the 2000’s

How hard is it for Lorde to send her fans an email in a predictable cadence? pls I'm parched. All I can wish for at this point is a track-by-track commentary like it was for Melodrama. That NYT article was interesting. Just some of my thoughts... "Even now, with the obligations piling up ahead of “Solar Power,” Lorde scheduled a weeklong beach vacation with friends, and used a scheduled interview as an occasion to multitask, walking to buy a tote bag full of nice cheese for the trip." You can do that any time in the down years... Talking about fame, ha Chemtrails era I think it's interesting Lorde tamps down at people idolizing her. I don't think she enjoys the spotlight being a "cult leader" (see Solar Power MV vibes) brings but I feel like that's what her fanbase is and that's what makes her unique? Clearly there are things worth worshipping Lorde about--such as her gift to concisely speak to emotions/experiences and Solar Power so far feels less emotionally charged which makes me worried. Oh well.

Blue Banisters - Pre-Pre-Release Thread

It’s because the ATRL thread for Blue Banisters is locked ? -
Hm I would put California above title track. I also wished that the outro of Solar Power would have “soooolaaaaar owwwwa” in the background but Lorde repeats the chorus “my cheeks in high color overripe peaches” on top of it. It would have more of a pop punch

Edit: tweet was fake? it said Mood Ring will come out on August 9
-
She’s going back to her instagram baddie goals
-
You can see her new man’s hands on the wheel. From what little I can see, this mystery man reminds me of Kieron Menzies
-
I thought her new man might be Evan Haskell because she followed him recently and he’s not remotely in Lana’s typical circle. If I sleuthed correctly, Evan is ~32
-
Didn't you recently run into a TMZ-like item about Lana wilding around town with a 25 year-old?
-
To discuss about her latest email: I find it interesting that Lorde started to feel insecure about her place in the music industry or the prospect that she’s losing touch. Because her living in NZ in peace away from the fame and taking time to craft her music are all deliberate choices she’s made and emphasized. I love that her favorite ice cream flavor is pistachio. It’s mine too

I’m not really feeling it. The 3-note bass riff is the exact same as WAH’s but that notwithstanding, the lyrical structure lacks the usual conciseness I love Lorde for. Like the chorus lacks a hook or a theme that ties the verses together. She goes deep in the verses just to throw away like “maybe i’m just stoned”
