I loved Video Games when it came out but was convinced she'd stay a one hit wonder so I didn't follow her career - until I saw the music videos for National Anthem and Ride. They had me completely obsessed. The PopCandies paparazzi videos, then Tropico, the iconic UV pre-realease era and then coming out of all the darkness with the dreamy Honeymoon what a time, 2012-15 was ICONIC. LFL was my first big disappointment, especially after that amazing album trailer and The Love Witch being realeased at the same time. NFR restored my love a little bit. But I was obsessed with everything she did until 2015, every.single.song and project. Video Games, Blue Jeans, National Anthem, Ride, Tropico, YAB, West Coast, Shades, Honeymoon, MTWBT - eve-ry-thing. After Honeymoon I haven't been obsessed with anything and the more stuff she puts out that I don't fully love the more I'm losing interest. I don't think I'll ever not follow her career and what she's up to but I might not purchase any more albums - depending on LDR9. I figured that mystery is a good thing for artists and the more I know and the more an artist tries to be "normal" and "relatable" to the masses (LFL, NFR), the less intriguing they and their art get to me. Lana was a big part of my life since I was 17 so she's always gonna be special to me though.

Yeah me too and what does that even mean? That her ancestors did shitty things and she now has to pay for it?? Because she seems to be blaming her "karmic lineage" for every negative reaction she gets. She even talked about it in her Variety speech and connected it to criticism for things like QFTC. Like, could it just be that you got critisized for QFTC because you simply phrased it awfully? It's not always your ancestors' negative energy that gets you into trouble Anyway, might just depend on what you believe in I guess and I'm not attacking anybody's belief. I agree about the artistic growth but I seem to prefer listening to other people's stories instead of society's.The same is true for Marina. In a 2020 live stream she said that TFJ and EH (and also Froot) were more egotistical because she was young and now she writes about the "collective psyche" and whatnot. But what are her best albums to date...? Exactly those three. And just the same, Lana's best work (to me!) was released up to 2015. Then she went societal... LFL does it especially and it's subjectively her worst album to date. I just feel like when artists try to speak for others they are never as good (and also water themselves down) as when they just write about their own thoughts and experiences. If I wanna know what's going on in the world, I turn on the news. I personally want artists to be weird - unique lyrics, unique sound, unique thoughts.

Especially not defining. What defined her as an artist were all albums before LFL.
