I think we're ultimately trying to equate hype for leaks with favoritism of leaks. They're very different, imo. Do we overhype leaks (and leakers )? Yes. Does that mean we're psychologically biased to make our favorite Lana songs leaks? No.
-
No amount of keyboards in the world would make this analogy make sense, love. You're comparing quality with market-distribution, and it is incomparable.
-
What does that have to do with--never mind
-
I can sorttttt of see the analogy, but what gets me is that "unreleased Lana songs" are not "fake Lana songs" as the analogy seems to suggest...both would be real Chanel shoes in that analogy. I'm giving myself a headache can we stop talking about shoes and unreleased songs and whatever
-
Huh? But that's literally not how it works. You are not holding anything constant, other than the fact that both groups would contain Lana songs. It would be highly variable. It would be like asking people to chose between Chanel shoes from the 1960s or Chanel shoes from the 2020s; and arguing that "true" Chanel fans would prefer the 1960s shoes because of "scarcity bias" and average shoe consumers would have no clear preference. It makes no sense. Your stylistic choice has nothing to do with your knowledge of the lore.

But the “quality” of a song is not as objective as a shoe or a purse. Furthermore, in the shoe or designer item study, they are controlling the emotional aspect—the branding—which you cannot control with a song or piece of music. Such study would be deeply flawed, and it would be ridiculous to draw any kind of correlative conclusion from it.

I’m starting to lose you with the “issue” and “troubling” language, @Dior. I don’t think it’s an issue nor do I think it’s some problem with the collective psyche. It’s a phenomenon, interesting sure, but not really something that needs to be treated like a problem.

Architecture and Pink Champagne are two that I can objectively say have better lyrics than their released counterparts.

I think part of it, too, is nostalgia. We get leaks that are usually from an era, or many, prior--and since Lana's sound has changed tremendously through the eras--it takes people back to that time in her career and that time in their life. I think "Melancholia" benefitted from the nostalgia of the UV era immensely, bc it is quite a rough and slightly awkward song. That said, I agree that false "scarcity" or this idea of "exclusivity" around leaks is what drives the fascination. Look at "Riverside". I'm sure if UFB gets released in 7 years, no one will really bat an eye then either. And if "Candy Necklace" had been the outtake instead, we'd all be begging for that song.

Sorry I love Lana but that’s not “cute and quirky” that’s straight up being an asshole. Her fans are young and most of them are splurging a lot to be able to go see her live. If she doesn’t want to be there, she should’ve made that clear before taking money outta their pockets. -

Ya but you can’t be late to Glastonbury. She’s known about the curfew since she signed on. It’s very strict! -

At least it seems they died instantly and before their nervous system even figured out what was going on... -

I really don't think they're alive at this point. Even the 96 hours was a rough estimate... It's very sad, especially the 18 year old who had is life ahead of him. All gone due to a vanity trip to see the Titanic.- 138 replies

other than the immense fear from being conscious for 96 hours and stuck in a cold dark tube, the actual death by suffocation would be painless, from my understanding. You'd go to sleep and lose consciousness before major organ failure, so it would be relatively peaceful--like that Greek airliner that underwent rapid decompression. -

Exactly, it’d take the wreckage out and ruin it for observation by actual scientists and historians. -

Not to minimize their suffering, but if they crashed into the Titanic and are stuck underneath the rubble I’ll be mad. It’s already so delicate it doesn’t need to endure manmade damage. -
I don’t think it means much. While she may have more monthly listeners, I am not certain she could sell out a stadium the way Beyoncé can. Such comparisons are frivolous at best and inflammatory at worst. Though, I digress from my belief, in that the statistics are interesting. I just hope Lana’s cashing those checks and buying herself pretty things.

When I was 8 my parents took me on the Finding Nemo submarine ride in Disneyland. I was traumatized. Why anyone would willingly get into a submarine is beyond me—I hope that they can survive this with as little emotional trauma as possible. -
