There needs to be a happy medium. I don't want her being like some of the pop stars we have today who are desperate for attention and sales, but I also don't want her to just drop an album and forget about it. You can focus on the music over sales and still make nice videos, give interviews, and perform on TV a couple of times. Her sold-out tour is also a nice step in the right direction.

I read somewhere that she gained A LOT more fan from the release of UV, which is similar to how indie music industry works - good music, more fans.

But the popularity that we are talking about here is the 'viral' one - which Video Games/BTD helped. Hence more promotion needed to help maintain that fame - similar to what Beyonce and Taylor Swift did. Hence all those sorts of big-budget videos and singles during BTD.

But the question here is: can one repeat that? or does Lana/Interscope even want that to happen again? That goes in line with what Interscope did because if they thought Lana can they would have forced more promotion for Paradise or UV - but guess what, they didn't.

The level of 'famous-ness' Lana is now is still able to maintain her popularity / have fans for at least the next few years. She is still way more popular than many indie artists with equally good music. And Interscope still give her more promotion - prime example here: Endless Summer tour with bigger venue than the last tours.

But to be honest, all I care about is her good music. And if she keeps making more good music, that's all I'm here for. And many people are probably have the same view to me.

And if by losing fans means losing 12yo teenage girls who hate UV cos it's a snoozefest then no one needs that kind of fans.

I really hope she's smart with this album and continues to evolve her sound and lyrical content. I think a lot of her future success in the industry is contingent on what she does with this album. She could either be an alternative pop artist who had a couple of nice albums or continue to cement a legacy with a monumental album. That's not going to happen if she keeps singing Dan Heath-produced songs about bad boys. I trust her judgment, though. She always surprises us and MTWBT seems like a promising concept. I'm probably reaching, but it could have a very interesting take on reversing the male gaze that is so prevalent in popular music.

But remember, it's Lana we are talking about ...
maybe one is for LiB and features a few shots of her singing while the rest of the video is footage from the movie. or maybe one is a real music video and the other one is a trailer which features outtakes.
Or maybe one will be released and the other one will be cancelled and/or replaced by a cheap Iphone one ...

I love how she describes her music. Hollywood sadcore is perfect for BTD, for example. Springsteen in Miami is also really interesting. AKA she wanted to sound like " a sad party" which really captures the sound of the album for me.

Ultraviolence description of "too dark" is also on point. That record is full of raw emotions and really, really depressing. Her other albums had some songs to balance but UV goes deeper in her darkest feelings and it doesn't offer any kind of hope but only resignation. I can't really listen the whole record everyday because it's a emotional rollercoaster

I get what you are saying, but there are actually quite a few people who can 'hear colours'. To be honest, I honestly think that UV sounds blue *pleasedonthitme*

Blue is the best description of Ultraviolence imho

retrofuturism is like the old imagining the new; like living in the 70s but fantasizing about what life would be like 90 years from then. so i'm currently thinking of the jetsons lmao

i dunno, that noise-thing at the end of west coast is pretty "retrofuturistic" -- i could definitely see her mixing those elements with a more twangy, pastel sort of sound (i.e "sleepwalk" -- i'm assuming she used that as the tour opening for a reason)

    oooooooooo

i doubt she pays actual attention to obscure subcultural elements that relate back to her ~sound~

all of her music has been "futureretro" to some degree; mixing elements from different eras / genres etc; we already know by now that she likes to pen these little phrases that don't always mean much of anything

like her next album is going to be cunt-wave and the one after that hindi-core and/or math-slut

Futuretro might be retrofuture which  is a literature/art genre just like steampunk ( but in this case the future is described as something like the past). That Endless Summer tour stage really fits the whole aesthetic

2 videos already? Her label might be the one postponing the release date since our girl is actually doing her homework

I remember when West Coast came out, It was mesmerizing, different from BTD or Paradise but so Lana. I really hope that the first single will be at the level of WC which didn't become a hit but only because she didn't promote it and her label was off base with the release. I hope that this time she delivers the whole package (TV shows) we deserve it

I think "National Anthem" is generic, annoying piece of pop-ish song, and the first, faster version is much more fresh and positively mischievous; I don't like the hymnic tone of the BTD version and its simplificated, flat chorus. It is, actually, the only song of hers that I'm not fond of.
Also, "Flipside" is overly underestimated: it has grungy, chamber charm and haunting, echoing intro and end with provoking hurting question, very deep and intimate. I prefer that ninety, lo-fi, rough and raw sound over psychedelic grandeur of "Cruel World", more close to the pieces like "Get Drunk", but with added guitar growling, like its elaborated, inflamed extension.
Plus, "Off To The Races" is the best gem on BTD, most complex, charged with multiple emotional layers and lyrically excellent, with her versatile voice covering all isohypses and isobars of emotional experience.
Paradise "Yayo" is much weaker, cause it lacks the crucial part of the bridge, echoing "...dark night..." in the distance (this is for me the climax part), and her voice is much more insecure and unnecessary shivering and roaming, tracing invisible ornamental additions and ruining strong, effortlessly soft flowing spine of the melody of the original. The first version kicks ass.

Am I the only one who just wants 12 original new well written songs with a coherent and unique style like Ultraviolence? I love her unreleased music but I would much rather prefer new music.

Elvis is my daddy, Marilyn's my mother
    Jesus is my bestest friend

    With your big eyes
    and your big lies

My pussy tastes like Pepsi Cola

And anybody  in this thread who was going after Flipside or ITH is a mess and half. Easily, in the upper half of her best ever recorded songs.

Maybe she just likes the word honeymoon sonically. She likes the mix of the words 'honey' and 'moon' because 'honey' reminds her of a sunset in the morning and 'moon' reminds her of the night and she thinks that's interesting because night and morning are kinda the opposite of each other. Also she really likes the word 'moon' because it reminds her of space and she loves space and finds it way more interesting than feminism and just life in general.

I actually hope for some production like the tour intro.

    And maybe a Meghan feature

Just imagine the anti-feminist duo Lana and Meghan slayin the charts with a song like "Daddy, I made ya sandwiches" doo-wop and all.
