this! Sucker is severely underrated and i think even Charli has come round to it, she's mentioned (since the mixtapes) that she loves Need Ur Luv and Body Of My Own, even in that RedBull interview she did last year she confirmed that she didn't hate Sucker and the only song on there she dislikes is Break The Rules... the way i look at it, Sucker gave her commercial success, it was that success that encouraged her to go even more pop (which led her to creating XCX World) and if it weren't for the XCX World era we wouldn't have gotten mixtape Charli and the albums that followed... so lets take a moment to appreciate Sucker.

also, despite not liking Hey Boy, Hey Girl (controversial, right?) i forgot how much i miss her natural voice and tone, i love PC / autotune Charli but damn i miss her real voice! another reason Sucker should be appreciated more.

I've never hated on that album. There's only like 2-3 songs in the album I don't like - just like with 90% of the albums I listen to. To me it's a fun record and I'm glad I had my Sucker-obsessed moment when I got into Charli! I don't know if I would like her to release another album with pop/punk influences, but I'd definitely would like Charli (stans) to stop pretending it was a mistake. It was not. It's not my favourite album either, but it doesn't have to be so I recognize it's a good record.

idc what anyone says but after revisiting sucker i think we need a comeback of punk pop charli with a hyperpop twist to it... i dont think you understand im OBSESSED

can we please stop talking about sucker poorly bc i honestly think after all these years it doesn't seem bad at all and we need Charli to think the same... it was just a weird era this exact moment of her career but it still was super fun and the general idea of that album still seems authentic to Charli... just not the outcome of what her label forced her to release and Charli's weird obsession in becoming a mainstream popstar BUT there's many gems and career-defining moments on this album!

i think because it's the new year i'm a lot more sentimental right now but i remember discovering this like 4 years ago and it makes me REALLY nostalgic listening to this wtf we're all growing up and it's kinda scary, but this mixtape remains immovable (especially grins omg)  the fact that she's sticked to the 90s/y2k aesthetic this decade authentic queen

I often think about the time she spent with fans playing new music around that time too. It must have been such an odd time having this collection of songs, supporting Taylor on tour, recent songs leaking, doing a photoshoot but you don’t know what you’re releasing.

I really really love Charli. She is one of the most creative people in the industry. I would love to spend half a day with her, just listening to her talk just blurt it all out because she knows she’s a creative genius too and has so much to say in an unproblematic way. The few seconds at her meet and greet were amazing, because when you meet someone you idolise so much it could be a let down.

I'm glad she was working on music before everything went down and she hasn’t had her usual lifestyle to inspire her which is maybe why she’s revisiting old tracks too, if she really has reworked Sticky.

Cross You Out just hit me as a more down-tempo, but more uplifting sequel to Tears (sonically as well) and now my mind is exploding.
The "tears are running down my face, now you gotta go, go, go" and then the "century of tears" and the "now that you're gone, I'm doing fine"
    HER MIND CONTINUES TO IMPRESS

people using dbree to communicate and condemning lanaboards / discord is so funny to me like do they really think we are the reason TPNO isn't leaking and why should i care ?

Happy now is so cute! The quality is trash, but maybe that's the quality he had. This seems out of circulation and hard to get.

get shygirl's name out your mouth. ALSO ALSO ALSO!!! hyperpop was NOT AT ALL started by pop 2. it was started the moment A.G. founded PCM and then danny l harle, ag, sophie, and even easyfun started making bubblegum bass/eurodance influenced music. THAT was hyperpop.

SLAYYTER, GRAVEYARDGUY, THAT KID, JAKE GERMAIN, 100 GECS, AYESHA EROTICA. THEY ARE NOT HYPERPOP. THEY NEVER WILL BE. they are simply y2k influenced electropop. not hyperpop at ALL.

hyperpop is a eurodance/bubblegum bass inspired sound and genre. it wasn't started by charli however she did popularize it. give credit to AG, easyfun, danny l harle, and sophie. they're the ones who made this sound possible.

I think in the long run, it was for the best... there was a lot of hype in the fanbase coming off of her time in the limelight with all of her early hits/Sucker and then that combined with how bonkers Vroom Vroom was... there was a lot of potential for an outstanding pop era of crazy proportions.

So the longer time went without anything being dropped and the live teases she did of new songs throughout 2016, it was just FEEDING the hype, fans became stans just looking for anything and everything, myself included  .... I think the situation really (somewhat unintentionally), built up a lot of the hype around her, mystique around certain songs (I really took to Round & Round, Up N Down, No Angel, Taxi)... but then by the time the mixtapes came out, they took on somewhat of a different and more alternative shape, but it’s all put her into this “new light”, and on a different path. A lot of lyrical themes stayed, almost creating her own “lore” as an artist.

She’s “meta” lol and would it have been that way had XCX World just dropped on time and without a hitch? I really don’t think so. She’d probably be just another pop girl that the majority of people would love to hate (and maybe not, since everything she does is coming through the lens of Charli regardless, nothing has really ever changed there) but that is what tends to happen to artists in the limelight. Lots of exposure, lots of hate... But now, her artistry is THEE XCX World! She has a very strong fanbase for what it is, that kind of just built organically through the ups and downs... but it’s made everything all the better. I think she’s inspired a lot of people in the last few years, like that 100 gecs remix album... tell me that doesn’t look exactly like a Charli mixtape tracklist! It’s the very scene she’s had a big hand in cultivating.

Now I just wish the GP would warm up to what she’s doing now. It’s just unfortunately, I think her music and the culture she brings along with it requires a certain level of open mindedness that a lot of people just simply don’t have. It’s like she’s broken the glass ceiling, so to speak, where most people still look at what’s “in the box.” But these are now all big reasons why, to me, she’s the best pop artist I’ve ever seen. It’s the willingness she has to stand up for her vision, and come at us from a different angle, and try new sounds, and do something exciting and subversive. Move the needle. It’s exactly what most people claim to want in a pop artist, but they don’t have a grasp on the overall scope to really see it, or appreciate it when it comes.

While I agree that it was probably for the best that XCX World was scrapped, let’s not act like “her career would be over” had it been released..

it’s possible that the potential commercial flop could have slowed down her career / cult success, but let’s not forget how quickly Charli has always bounced back from any point in her career; always moving forward. She would have become a cult icon either way.

I rlly want her to go back to that darker sound again. She mentioned wanting to do another H&E type mixtape so I’m hopeful.. I don’t want a TR 2.0 tho, just that same vibe, that same energy.

Boom Clap is actually a bop and I will die on that hill. Throwback to when that was the only new Charli music we were fed along with Allergic to Love and the live recordings of London Queen and Breaking Up...
