What’s your favorite non-lyrical part of a song?

Ooof the vocalization at the beginning and the end of this version of Your Girl kills me. -
I don't remember what was discussed in the interview you mention but I remember Courtney talking about it on her livestream last year. That they did a pinky swear on media blackout. I might be overreaching but since I've realized she deactivated too, my mind jumped to that convo thinking they might have been planning this together again.

Don't know if this has been discussed before, but Courtney Love also seems to have deactivated again. I remember her telling something like Lana and she made a pact to go offline or something like that before the whole album rollout? So maybe Lana's plan was to promote the album with the account only to delete it later? Just a thought

FJM in the background the whole time she performs Norman fucking Rockwell. Makes you wonder… “It happened”💀 -
I don’t know how to describe it but performance oriented singers (I mean this as in obsessed with the technicality of the singing), no matter how good their voices are, can butcher covers because the emotions are nowhere to be found? If that makes any sense…

The shared sentiment in Would standing in front of Mount Rushmore feel like the great American homecoming I never had? Would the magnitude of the scale of the sculptures take the place of the warm embrace I never got? and What the fuck's wrong in your head to send me away, never to come back? Exotic places and people don't take the place of being your child

I didn’t get it at first and felt a bit annoyed that the flow of the song was constantly interrupted, because I just quite simply adore it. BUT, now I think maybe the idea was, with the self references many of you have mentioned, interrupting the flow of the art deliberately (and thus the possibility of getting lost in it) to draw attention to the artist being a real person beyond our conceiving of her. I can tell she feels strongly about this particular this video which is honestly so cool to see. 🩵

Aaaand suddenly I'm a fan of this song

The piano f*cking hits and “So you say there’s a chance for us?” … I just love this song so much. It’s the Lana opening I had been waiting for, for years.

I don’t know if this would be an unpopular opinion but I hate the “skinny dip in (one’s) mind” lyric, hope she never uses that again…

Thank you, yeah I think you may be right about the “All the things I couldn’t want for him” part, the “never stepped in” lyric from WW might also be alluding to some sort of childhood resentment. As for your latter point, I think it’s both. This song is incredibly layered really I think of different things with each listen.

Yes yes yes. I mean even why I gravitated toward her music so much was a question in itself. I started paying attention to what most speaks to me in her lyrics and take it from there
