i was just thinking about how how to murder your life might actually parallel a lot of lana's early experiences or at least give insight to how her experiences might have been... it's my favourite trashy drug addiction memoir of all time by former conde nast beauty editor cat marnell <3 it's incredibly readable! she went to boarding school in MA and went to college in NYC in the early 2000s (like lana), and i feel like it was such a singular time - i loveeee reading about the club culture and nightlife in new york in the early 2000s - it's so fun lol

Right idk how to express this well and I feel like I need to be careful - it’s confusing bc there are some incredible lyrics on bb but then there are a few lyrics that seem like half-thoughts or like they were written very quickly? I do love the kind of improv one-take style in songs like pretty when you cry and white dress but I prefer when it’s obvious and I def don’t really like it when it’s the writing rather than the song itself that seems one-take? I just really like when she “tries” and her lyrics are so precise and intentional and well-expressed, like text book’s (and the vast majority of her work, including that on bb!)

What was your reaction of the BTD to UV transition?
Alison by Slowdive replied to Honeyyoung's topic in Lana Thoughts
i was so young but i remember like... not even questioning it? i remember listening to west coast's release on a bus one night and it was the best thing i'd ever heard, just like all of BTD had been BTD and paradise had already been such a unique blend of genres so although the rock influences on west coast were new, i really don't remember it feeling surprising/jarring/confusing etc.
