Not naming her new album "Zag" is a missed opportunity. The new single sounds good tho, perfect for those who like her pure metal stuff.

God it's been a while since I've seen this mouthy twink on my youtube feed (clicking don't recommend channel works wonders). Not really a welcome sight seeing him again, on a Katy thread nevertheless.

Both versions are cute, but the newer version has a much punchier production value. Sunscreen is really just that bitch.

Honestly, it is kinda baffling how it got such low scores from critics if it's only based on the actual album quality. It is mid at worst, there is nothing offensive about it sonically. Most scores I assume are driven by the discourse about the album's background rather than the music itself. It is mid but scoring it 30+ makes it seem as if she released completely unlistenable songs (which she didn't, they were just stale at worst). She just needs to work with new people. With 143, at least now she knows that Dr. Luke does not hold the answer as to how she can rekindle her pop sensibilities. I think she should work with Zedd and Bonnie McKee for the next album if she really wants to still play with the pop sound while maintaining the kitsch of her past works (with Bonnie) while also updating her sound (with Zedd).I also think she needs to improve her parasocial game more since she cant really rely on the GP anymore. And with how ruthless a lot of the internet stans are with her, as much of a problem parasocial relationships are in stan culture, she needs to kinda like fight fire with fire and give more incentives why being a Katycat is worth it in 2024. While I don't think 143 is bad (I even have some songs on repeat), it really wasn't worth it to experience all of this for such an album. Hopefully she's able to navigate this era better than she did when Witness bombed a few years ago. At least Brazil seems to be living for her, so there's that.

I don't think Chappell is gonna last long in this industry. She might make an album or two tops before she either removes herself or her fans eat her alive once they turn on her (which they will, I absolutely see that). I just don't think she's the type of person/artist who can maneuver through this level of fame and attention. If we're comparing the two breakout artists of the moment, I think Sabrina might fare better, but then again she's a Disney girl so she was trained for this from the very beginning.

I'm kinda annoyed that Brat became Charli's breakthrough album. It felt like she was at her most annoying during this era, and because Brat did so well, it probably enables her to be more of a brat (pun intended) for her future releases. If I were to choose a different Charli album that would receive this kind of success, it would probably be HIFN or Crash.

Upon letting it simmer for a bit, it really isn't that bad. It's better than Smile in a sense that the songs actually feel like they belong to a cohesive album. It's not her best work nor is it her worst. It's just mid for the most part. Aside from "Woman's World", all songs are listenable and I didn't felt the need to immediately skip a track aside from that one. It also helps that most songs transition really well to each other. The main highlight of the album is "Wonder" and it's crazy that it almost didn't get included in the album.

Kim ate her up in her feature. Girl doesn't miss with her features and this one isn't any different. I don't mind the album. I don't hate it but I don't think it's good enough to power through the hate she's been getting. It's not bad by any means but it's just not good enough for the work to speak for itself. Some of the songs sound derivative of her past eras, which is both a good thing for some songs, and a bad thing for others. In my first listen I like half the tracks, which I guess is decent enough. Standouts to me are Gorgeous (thanks to Kim), Lifetimes, Crush, Nirvana, All The Love, and Wonder.

She sang two songs from 143 (the Doechii feature and Lifetimes as a closer). I think the latter worked perfectly as a closer and it seems like people were into it. I really think had it been promoted better, Lifetimes could have done decently.

I remember she once had an idea to rework her mixtape era, which would have been fabulous tbh. Since she has then stated that the idea was scrapped, I wasn't expecting that she'll even acknowledge the 5th anniversary of her mixtape era. Makes me wonder what we're getting outside of No Comma? Hopefully we get a reissue with new tracks (or demos) since she has a lot of songs during mixtape era that didn't make it in the final track list.

The album's cute! Nothing amazing but it's a nice breezy listen. Not putting "Legacy" as the closing track is a missed opportunity. That one screams closing track.

Does anyone here know where to find the initial version of Rebel Heart (album)? I've never heard of it and apparently it was a completely different album production-wise and I'm very curious of it since it was apparently an Avicii produced album initially.

I miss her. We were too spoiled last year getting both FTB and Problematique months apart. I really hope she releases TOTL3 this year.

You make good points. I'll just have to add that I think Woman's World being the lead single and the song being a hot pile of garbage while also being produced by Luke really killed all the momentum this era could have had. It's one thing to work with him, but it's another to work with him and get something much worse than anything you've produced without him. It just doesn't make sense why she thought this was a good idea. As you've said, she has options. Her most successful post-Chain to the Rhythm era was Never Really Over, a song produced by Zedd and was beloved by fans (and is often cited as something that should have been bigger if pushed better). Not to mention Harley's in Hawaii keeps randomly getting picked up by the tiktok algorithm. That proves she still has it even post-Witness! She just got too desperate and her team blindly followed her. I sincerely think she needs to fire her entire team, change labels, and start anew after this album cycle.

Lifetimes is mindlessly boppy enough for it to be a moderate hit. Idk why they aren't pushing it as hard as they did for Woman's World (which is a hot pile of trash)? She needs a new team. I know she's not the best at decision making but I also blame a huge portion of this fiasco to her team and their inability to actually influence Katy in making better decisions.

Holy crap I was not expecting an M6 announcement any time soon. I thought she was just gonna stick to her poetry book for quite some time and not bother with M6 for a while. I wonder what the sound is gonna be for this one? It's gonna be funny if she releases it this 2024 since this year is so jam packed with releases in the pop landscape. I'm afraid of the upcoming drought we'll experience in the next few years because of the mass releases this year ngl.

I really don't get how this works since the streaming numbers don't match. Joyride's streaming numbers in Spotify at Day 10 is only twice Woman's World's numbers at Day 2 and yet it's somehow outperforming it according to some. The numbers just don't add up. On another note, upon hearing the other songs she previewed during that IG live, I concur that there are other options she could have chosen as a lead single. I still don't mind the song and I stand by my point that it's not any better or worse than most of her singles since she's always been cheesy and shallow. But at the same time, since she previewed her album, I don't get the logic of using this song as a lead single especially since it's supposed to be her big comeback single when she has other songs to choose from.
