Pretty Girls Make Graves, Bigmouth Strikes Again, How Soon Is Now? (The Smiths) I have been rotating between these songs for about a week, I love when I remember that the smiths exist and that we’re from the same city.

Yes you’re right OB is actually quite versatile. I love the album, never stop spinning the vinyl its so precious. I’m kinda over all the stripped back stuff now though, or maybe I’m not over ‘stripped back’ per se, but I’m over her version of stripped back. And I’m not an huge fan of the autotune…Even the bops on OB, Lana’s vocals are sometimes indiscernible, I’d have loved clearer vocals on Peppers for example. The mixing works more for that song than others on the album though (fishtail ) Holly Macve’s folk/country(ish) album Golden Eagle is a nice example of how I’d like Lana’s album to be. Not necessarily the same kinda stuff, but still somewhat upbeat despite the stripped back approach. Like in the songs Heartbreak Blues or No One Has The Answers. -

Yeah the casual reference to BLM was so distasteful, I think I understand what she means, but she definitely must have had a sudden rush of bravery to actually leave it in the album, considering the climate at the time of its release. And I completely understand those who criticised her for it, at the end of the day she put it into a romantic song about someone else. The lyrics are so diluted, like she’s comparing her boyf to her dad, then she’s talking about being at a BLM protest “screaming for them”… it makes no sense. All that being said, I’m not gonna lie it sounds lovely. I love the dissonance between her vocals and the instrumentation, it’s definitely one of her most experimental songs. If the lyrics had been changed it could have been a great listening experience. It’s a shame, it has such potential as an opener. -

I keep fluctuating in how I feel about this album, on the one hand I’m eagerly awaiting (since I can’t stop returning here) and on the other, I’m like eh so what another acoustic album. I’m literally yearning for a little versatility on this album… don’t get me wrong I actually love most songs on albums since BB, but I’m left craving for more summer wine…. lol. Seriously, a bit of energy and excitement in this album would make me happy. -

If it wasn’t easy to change political thoughts that fast, Kamala might’ve have won the election. Seems a lot of people did a switch up. I love Lana but as much as she boasts about having an ordinary life, she is still a millionaire who has a predominantly upper class (in terms of wealth) social circle. Wouldn’t be surprised if she did now vote republican. But who knows.

She should leave the memos for the creative process not the product -

I do really like NFR! and some of the songs on that album resonate a lot with me. But production wise I have to agree. People say it’s her magnum opus but hello UV exists!!! That’s her best album in my opinion. Never tired of that album, always find something new when I listen to it. As someone who makes music, I think UV is her most exciting and it inspires me a lot in my own creative endeavours -

I see what you’re saying, it’s hard to compare Lana to those individuals because of the time and music background being quite different. Lana isn’t much of a soul/gospel singer at heart. Don’t you think that Lana definitely can belt though? Especially when she used to cover heart shaped box, she just chooses not to use her full range anymore for some reason, she has the abilities she’s just not always utilising them anymore. -

Yup definitely, I guess she quit smoking but with the amount she vapes I doubt it’s doing her any favours. Plus does she even do vocal warm ups/scales? They help preserve the voice. But yes I agree, I feel like years of bullying from the media has had an impact on her output. It’s a shame, BTD & Ultraviolence, to me, actually felt more authentic and less like she is romanticising her life (which I have no problem with at all, but her later albums at least until OB, felt more aesthetic driven than concept driven). I think the quality of her music is sadly declining, maybe she doesn’t have the same fire and tenacity for music that used to have. I’m not sure. This being said, I’ve never not enjoyed a Lana album. I always find pieces in each album that I treasure. I’m sure this will be same going forward too. -

I agree too. I also think though she sings the chorus of Shades of Cool quite unclearly, it’s still one of her best vocal performances on a song and for me and the older I get, I love the song even more. I’ve loved this song since I was 15 and now I’m almost 26! I once listened to an interview she did in the LFL era, where the interviewer said he’d never heard her sing so powerfully before (in reference to When The World Was At War…) and all I could think was that the shades of cool vocals were 100x better. I have thought that maybe Lana has developed some vocal damage over the years because her voice doesn’t have the depth it used to. I do think she consciously chooses to sing softer nowadays, but even her live performances have been weaker compared to her earlier years. -
Quelle Rox This song is so dreamy and sad, love it. xo
