  1. Asylum is my favorite, especially James Cromwell as the doctor. And Ryan Murphy cutely named the starring character "Lana" and she just "happened" to look like Lana and Ryan loves Lana I watched the series backward from Freak Show back to 3 to 2 to 1 I hadn't watched Heard Ryan Murphy tease that Lana's song would be in it and sung by Jessica Lange, and I watched even though I hate clowns. Jessica Lange doing Gods and Monsters wow. My favorite is Asylum, then Freak show, then the 3rd season, then the first season Watched yesterday and Holy Shit, was Ryan inspired by Lana's Honeymoon and/or Old Money? or what. Freak/Art Deco would be perfect let alone Honeymoon. (But doubtful they will combine Gaga and Lana). Not in love with the first 15 minutes,(too Shining like), except for Kathy Bates...but as it went on, especially the last 1/2 hour of the first episode. Each season is mostly a new story with a slight connection with the past, but mostly actors playing different roles with a few connections (they say its all going to end up being connected). But one can watch this season and then go back. IMHO and love Denis O'Hare. I had to imdb to see who it was.
  2. I am feeling it and I ain't gonna stop feeling Honeymoon. did anyone but me think that perhaps Ryan Murphy beg borrowed or stole Honeymoon and made it into Hotel? not to mention Freak and Art Deco (and I have thought from the start Art Deco was about Stefani anyhow). as the saying goes Lana please-, "Illegitmi Non carborundum". and I just got back from my workout, where I swam to Freak and Deco in perfect timing. That is now 5 of the Honeymoon songs that (without a waterproof player) I perfectly have in my head and in perfect time can swim along to.
  3. yeah I thought that was the case early on, thought someone had some new information now ... one can hope one day for that big box set with all the old stuff. Would love it if only to have an official other record to get signed at some point. (would love to have each release on cd and vinyl signed) thanks for the quick response.
  4. wait a minute- I think I missed something- did someone in a recent page say something that Lana bought back the rights to AKA and is releasing it? Really? Source? when?
  5. I wish she would do audio books/ reading poetry like her monolgues or Burnt Norton How cool would it be if she and James Franco did the audio to James Franco's book and they read each part Hell, if Bruce Springsteen could do an Outlaw Pete book. BTW- Summertime sadness is indeed about suicide. And as today I have Swan Song in repeat (up to the eight time) I still say the song is Elizabeth and Lana as the two people in the song. As is Terence as is one interpretation of HBTB. Who is to say it isn't? In Hollywood, everything is real even if it isn't. (Too bad it's not Lana tonight on American Horror Hotel...as Lana was the inspiration for the Lana character in AHS-Asylum and Lana figured prominent on AHS-Freak show too. How anyone can possibly say Lana's lyrics have something wrong with them...have their eyes Kubrick like wide closed.
  6. Lana should self-produce, now that Honeymoon was the first where she has the first producer on every cut, she should be the only producer. She knows in her head how it should sound. No need to have some producer d'jour alter it. Unless George Martin would come out of retirement. Gus Dungeon would have been interesting (Elton's long time producer, but he died).
  7. There is no issue with songwriting. IT is once again just the negative long post taken as a given when in fact, it wasn't true in the post it was in to start off with. It is called a straw man. And if repeated strawmen become fact, when it was never true to begin with. Her Honeymoon lyrics are actually quite witty, and also like me stream of conscious. And High by the beach, we didn't even know the true meaning until the video came out. More and more, Lana reminds me of Buddy Holly, and had Buddy Holly not died, he would be Lana Del Rey (conceptually). I always pictured Buddy had he lived remaining in music his entire life, producing himself and others as he got older, and playing with a bunch of friends in a community (in a way like Nashville songwriters do and the Wrecking Crew is (the Los Angelese studio musicians that populated thousands of albums in the 60s and 70s and 80s, etc.) More and more, it also reminds me of Brian Wilson, and how some of his fans just want it to be 1963-4-5 all over again and to only have Fun, Fun, Fun and wish everyone was California Girls and Surfin' USA and never wanting Brian Wilson to do what he himself wanted to do (Like the original Smile album not being wanted). But then some think Summertime Sadness (the original) was a happy bouncy fun lyric instead of it was about suicide. I hope Lana never changes from doing whatever it is she wants to do today tomorrow and forever. Perhaps Lana should send a message to the haters on her next album, next year- she should do My Way. Perhaps she could do it as a 3 way with Nancy Sinatra and Leonard Cohen. That would be a hoot.
  8. re post 1041 This Lana supporter thinks Shades of Cool old man Mark Mahoney is cool, and it sure resonated with me. let's just say you and that other one should live happily ever after, but please, go do it on an artist you actually like board. Because not one post indicates you ever knew what Lana was about in the first place. Perhaps Cedric G. will remix one of those other artists and you will get a disco album from one of them (Maybe Martika?). No one ever heard of Cedric G. either prior to his piggybacking off of Lana did they? And note, not once in concert did Lana ever do the remix version. Lana could snap her fingers show up in Europe and instantly do a full series of soldout concerts at any time any year in the future, be it 2015 or 2035.. Here is a trick question- when was the last concert Kate Bush did in Nashville Tennessee or Houston Texas or New York City or Los Angeles? (note, it is a trick question). Bet Kate would have died to have 4 Top 10 lps in America. Or even one radio song. Keep doing just what you are doing Lana...remember "Illegitimi non carborundum" . Never be anything you are not. Be everything you are. and here's to Mark Mahoney. From East Coast to West Coast.
  9. great thread that will take some time to do justice to. A few out of 100s of greatest moments- Realizing Lana is doing just about every female vocal and sound, on every song (lead and background) and that most grunts, sighs, sneers, hisses breathe is Lana's voice. (there are no background singers it is all her.) It is like how in 1973 at first I thought it was a kazoo and it took a while until we saw him sing it in concert to realize that it was actually Elton singing the la-la-la's in Crocodile Rock... Moments where the only way to describe it would be to put down the exact time in the song it is mentioned. (hard to describe, but in Born to Die there is that something or other for a split second) The incredible feeling (literally bought chills and tears) the first time heard both Old Money and Once upon a Dream (from the first note to the last and both on repeat for days) and then two weeks ago sitting in a hotel room in Quebec City and hearing Salvatore the first time. Shades of cool/ west coast/Brooklyn baby back to back Ride/American (the bridge in both songs is amazing, mentioned the exhilaration of "Everybody wants to go fast..." in a different thread The monologues of Ride and Burnt Norton and all the other spoken parts of songs (Please release a poetry audio tape, or perhaps an audio affirmation type tape to have while I do my swimming exercises) The stark simple Pawn Shop Blues which recently repeated many times as I was emptying our mother-in-law's house and having estate sales (especially when a stranger took her favorite huge painting no one in the family had room to hang, and walked out of the house, leaving the wall and the home bare Not realizing when just the song was released that the beginning of High by the beach was a helicopter. (please be nominated for video of the year at the Grammy's) God there are hundreds and hundreds of examples, especially with the pre-Lana songs...It is really hard to break it down to the best of 10 best or even the 100 best. will get back to this thread at another time
  10. Every song released both as LDR and any other name, and the demo's too. There is no filler. No bad song. No song that doesn't fit in each album. (and the bonus songs too, however, they didn't always fit the subject matter which is why they were bonus songs) 100% and I can't say I ever heard anyone else come close to half of that. Most artists have 2 or 3 songs, and the rest is filler. (20 or 30% only And not putting other artists down, but as examples- Christina Perri- after she finally made it in 2010-11, I loved her big single, Jar of hearts (however, gonna catch a cold is a bad lyric there, maybe the flu or pneumonia made more sense), and then a few other songs. But in a way it was like Joan Osborne (Joan's "If god was one of us" was an amazing song, however, the other songs on the album had nothing to do in style or anything with that one, that proved If God was an outlier and not what she was. Unfortunately, I myself did not relate to the the other songs. Same with Sarah McLaughlan and Fiona Apple and others. A handful of songs, played in rotation with other artists. (Many of the Lilith artists the same, one great song, some others good). Same with those mega single artists like Mariah, (who literally slept with the head of Columbia to get hits and those hits stopped when he divorced her), Celine, Whitney- the numbers sold went down as time went on, and the quality went down. The artistic output I have never seen in volume and consistency. .and may I say again, millions of other artists would die to have their lifetime sales be as many as Honeymoon's first week sales. So would everyone who hit #3 to infinity down the chart. They would have died for a #2 placement. Lana at Urban O. taking time to chat with each of the 125 insures that decades from now, those people will remember and will buy the latest album, see the latest tour, and keep telling their friends (and their kids or grandkids and their friends ) and that is how to do it. Makes one their own PR person. as for her record company- her deal allows her outside projects, they take her for what she is, and she is a core artist that record companies like to brag having on their label. Every sale is going to someone who actively purchased it and wanted it. It is not like in the 1980s,1990s, artists shipped a million albums and six months later the stores returned 950,000 of them. (back then shipped got one gold record, now it takes actual sales). and Lana doesn't need money. That makes her free not to need to attain it. And Lana's record deal allows her outside projects so we the supporters get more music from her. Another label might not have let her do the movie scores as they came up. Or the duets. I can't wait until next year and the year after and the year after that. Just when one thinks she cannot release something as good, the next song comes out and it is. And I don't care if a negative person does not agree with me.(those people can put me on ignore if they choose).
  11. I just heard that Pope Francis dropped a surprise record...I wonder if all of the places it is being sold at will count for the Billboard 200? He may score a #1 album, and he has been doing mega-publicity. If only Lana was Pope
  12. @ you reference the wrong Iggy. Lana is akin to Iggy- POP, Iggy Pop that is. 50 years down the road. Used to perform rolling on the ground on broken glass. His supporters still see him Lana has much in common with those like Iggy Pop (who was in the same collective as Lou Reed and Klaus Nomi and David Bowie and others like David Johansen of the NY Dolls. and has nothing in common with Azalea at all. zero. zip. nada. nothing. (one of those dime a dozen go for the #1 singles flash in the pans that sometimes last two or three albums but next years model takes over.
  13. What is the 3 moon theory and in what relation? I think I missed something.
  14. strangeweather- no I disagree. It means she cannot put into words how she is feeling that, she feels it so much. It is clever and unique way to write and I put it in the same (oh no he is going to go back to the 60s for a reference here) with Petula Clark's Charlie Chaplin written "My song" where Chaplin wrote the phrase in a way that most would have written different "I care not what the world may say, without you there is no day" that wording anyone else would have written, I don't care what anyone may say, but it is so beautiful romantic written "I care not what the world may say" Lana is saying that in "I don't really know what I'm saying" in saying it such a feeling that words cannot describe. It is poetic. It is beauty itself. It is love. It is timeless love at least in my opinion. (note- Petula Clark was always my favorite female singer prior to Lana, and its been 50 years now, though Pet never wrote nor had anything to do with the arrangements or producing of her own records, just singing.)
  15. does anyone think Swan Song is in a way a comment on what was suppose to be a duet with Brian Wilson on Last Song (which after hearing Brian sing it and the lyrics, it was obvious no one besides Brian should sing that song, it is totally about him and his brothers and his own life as he is reaching an age where he is contemplating retirement it seems, though someone like him will never retire unless his health forces it) I still wanted to hear Lana's version of the song and hope one day it leaks. The two have similar thoughts in a metaphoric way.
  16. the girl walking down the corrider reminds me of Robert Downey Jr. mouthing the words in the video to Elton John's I want love. (Elton was the first person to give Downey a job after his lowest point in rehab). see youtube for that video.
  17. Here is what will probably be an unpopular opinion- From the BBC interview/ three songs she just did, there is a quick line in it about how her agreement with the record company gives he time to record often. (YEAH!!! I 100% want Lana to release a new album every 15 months or sooner, and perhaps a new song uploaded to her personal youtube every single month of the year (maybe every three weeks. I want music, music, music and every year a short tour if SHE WANTS to do it. But I don't care if she doesn't do promo, if she doesn't do American tv shows , USA interviewers ask such stupid questions to start off with. (and the one from the week before the BBC one, in France I think it was, the guy didn't know she did movie themes. )
  18. paradixo- LOL but it makes perfect sense that quote and the one in Ride in the bridge it is as if she is singing my life. it's hard to explain. I guess you gotta be there. I have listened to American in repeat once for 2 hours. (and the music double entendre references (house, Crystal Meth, Bruce, Elvis (and it could be either Costello or Presley as both fit) not to mention it isn't but it could be in a corny sort of way about President Obama if one wants to make it about President Obama (and its how I feel about him). no problem if no one agrees with me, it's my personal opinion.
  19. OMG Paradixo, American is not only one of my favorites, it has one of the five most important Lana direct meaning quotes in it- EVERYBODY WANTS TO GO FAST BUT THEY DON'T COMPARE I DON'T REALLY WANT THE REST ONLY YOU CAN TAKE ME THERE I DON'T REALLY KNOW WHAT I'M SAYING BUT I'M PRAYING...
  20. creyk- you obviously did not read or understand my post. I most certainly DO NOT want to be on any Katy board. I am on the only musician I care about board- Lana Del Rey. I was telling the poster that asked there might be one somewhere. btw what is ATRL? lol
  21. Lana has taken this song, that was written specifc for (but not by) Nina Simone, and was a hit for the Animals and Santa Esemeralda somewhat taking the first two versions, and making the song her own. He phrasing and her meaning is specific to her. She is directly describing herself in these lyrics. And it is alternatively heart breaking but redeeming, and affirmative, and asking those who are listening not to listen to any negativity and keep moving wherever she takes us Which is pretty cool if you ask me.
  22. @@prettywhenicry- I assume all artists have their own boards, don't they? (I have no idea specific to Katy as this Lana board is the only singers/musician's board I am on.) I know for instance, Elton John has a forum on his fan club as I used to be a member as you got really great seats if one was a member until scalpers found out about it and made it impossible to get the tickets- his members almost always got seats in the first ten rows in arenas, and if one was in those rows, he signed autographs twice a show for those people (security kept everyone else away). Sort of like how the front rows have access to Lana and getting selfies or autographs in each show.
  23. Personally, if I wanted to listen to Katy Perry (who is never ever spoken of negative in the press about authenticity or how she was a Gospel singer who turned to Pop (much like Amy Grant did better years ago), but if I wanted to listen to Katy Perry, I would not be here on the Lana boards. I would be on the Katy boards. and Sara B. should have sued for a writing credit. Because it was direct theft. She would have if she cared. She was too kind hearted and too good a person to care (Much like Lana not having her people sue Taylor's people for a writing credit). Now maybe I will go eat some Lucky Charms, their magically delicious LOL Katy Perry is every single thing Lana is not.(which is not a good thing). And that is a positive for Elizabeth Grant. and no, it's not a negative toward Katy. She is in a totally different place and the two places are not interchangeable. Katy is this "era's" Mariah Carey who was that era's Madonna. Not unique. If I want to listen to a Madonna'bee, I will listen to Madonna. To each their own. That's MY opinion.
  24. after hearing Sam Smith's just released last night Bond song, well, 24 hours or Big Eyes would have been more Bond Sam's song is interesting, however, it is like a copy of Elton John's masterpiece "Tonight" (if only had he hit that last note in the very end that he fumbled). Sam will have a #1 song though, the way the industry is. Just think, a piano player and singer, makes me wonder why they never asked Elton to sing a Bond song. (Maybe it was a record label thing, and Elton wouldn't have been allowed to record it). then again, I would rather Lana play Bond Jamie Bond in the next James Bond. If I were the Bond people, I would have gone for a duet of both of them. Being that Sam is so Lana to begin with (Remember when he went on SNL stood still next to a piano and did exactly what Lana did on SNL yet the critics loved him and hater her???
  25. btw- in Quebec City hotel room last week, watching their tv, out of knowwhere all of sudden they played High by the beach. Totally unexpected. So the video is getting played.
