  1. Lana does not want to be those 24/7/365 all going for the hit record do anything the media asks artists. She is an A act that people know, but on her own terms. When I keep comparing her to the acts she is like, same people hate my answer but she is like those acts, not like the flavor of the week that next month will be someone else. She will tour when she wants to, if she wants to. If she wants to stay in the studio and release stuff just on her own private youtube she will do just that Sheesh, you know how many millions of people would die to have a number 2 album in America after having had a Number one album? Every single person that stands in line for the Voice or X Factor or Idol or plays some club on Karaoke night would die to be what Lana is. and yet some here want her to be something she is not? I just want to enjoy the ride. And hope the ride lasts forever. I sincerely congratulate Lana on her #2 album and there is nobody else that would have beaten Drake this week. Face it. and I also congratulate Ryan Adams for his 1989 album. And Father John Misty for his quickly removed take off on it. It's a tribute to Lana in the first place that Taylor made 1989 even if she won't admit it or give Lana a writing credit. and congratulations to Lana on her duet with Weeknd which she co-wrote and if Weeknd decides to release it as an official single, being that he is so hot now, it will be a #1 song in spite of it all. (and congratulaitions to Lana on hitting #16 on the R&B/HipHop chart, the only white singer on that chart two weeks ago. Don't let the bastards get you down ever Lana.
  2. Congratulations Lana on 110k sold and the #2 chart position. Fourth Top 10 Born to die -2 Paradise- 10 (Billboard officially counts Paradise as a stand alone release) Ultraviolence-1 Honeymoon-2 and looking forward- (there are less than a handful of female artists in history with five Top 10 albums. Among which are Streisand, Madonna and Tori Amos.
  3. hbhbhb- every single post leaked version makes is a negative instead of one saying it's great that Lana had 115,000 sold in the USA #2 on the charts and was on course for #1 until the mixtape came out it is a hit and run negative post so often seen here just to bring people down. Just like the articles online with a comments section where there always seemed to be one person who rushed to say some crap negative, and same on youtube videos. It really is not right. All it does is bring people down. I will no longer remain silent about this and seethe inside. Congratulations to Lana on having the #2 album in America and please keep doing so. Don't let the bastards get you down as the old slogan goes.
  4. leaked version- 110,000 is more than thirty of the weeks in this calender year. 2015 is a year where 20,000 makes the Top 10, and as few as a thousand gets into the top 100 albums. And Drake is considered the #1 male artist in the USA with the added bonus of all of Future's fans on top of that and his rudely dropping an album interfering with someone else that had been planned. When people steal music (as some here keep wanting to do, it leads to people getting it for free and not supporting the artists they claim. Why would you call a #2 album a flop? At the heigh of her career, in an age where albums sold millions and millions, Tori Amos highest was #2. This is Lana's third that was either 1 or 2. But then every single post is bathed in negativity leaked version. I think I know now who posts those anonymous comments on every single article about her, and every single youtube. just my 2 cents worth.
  5. hbhbhb- thanks for asking- go to Wikipedia (wiki) www.wikipedia.org enter either Tori Amos then on the main page, and when you get to the discography part, there is a link to show all releases Tori Amos discography and they list all the chart numbers ( I was referencing the USA ones as I am from the USA and Billboard is the magazine that charts in the USA, but most include every nations chart numbers from whomever (radio station, other trade paper) supplies those charts) That is the easiest way
  6. @electricbody- those with enquiring minds don't immediately insult someone when they are too intellectually lazy to go and have a look-see google is your friend If someone posts a comment, and I have no clue, I research and look. As my favorite librarian said to me back in the 1960s, there are no stupid questions. google Miriam and Bruno from strangers on a train scene- amusement park ice cream cone Miriam looks over shoulder licking the ice cream cone (soft ice cream)
  7. concerts- most artists that have lots of material, only play 2-5 new songs in each different show. If Lana didn't sing the 10 biggest songs, people complain. Remember, most people don't go to many shows, and pay to see the biggest hits. Something all the superstars in the past faced. Elton John and a select few others adapted a concept where they just added 45 minutes to special shows and played an entire album in the middle of the greatest hits show when a new album is released, or its a special anniversary To do that, Lana would have to add more time to the show (If she goes back to Governor's ball and is on the main stage this time, she would have to play at least 30 additional minutes as the main stage was 2 hours not 90 minutes. Same in regular shows However-that would entail higher ticket prices (Lana's are relatively cheap). I myself would love to hear a one-off that is filmed with full orchestra and choir or backup singers and record Honeymoon in its entirety and then release it officially as a DVD/CD package. (and then go back and do such with all her stuff, but really, that is asking for too much. Harry Chapin at Lincoln Center in NYC one year, did a series of concerts where he played everything he had, A to Z. (or something like that). Each fan of course had to go every night to see the whole thing, and it was not filmed nor released. A long, long time ago. (think it was late 1970s). I would love to hear Salvatore in concert. More and more, this song reminds me of "Dance me to the end of time" that Leonard Cohen did (see on youtube the one where they put a couple up who aged at the end, and there is also a Scent of a woman(Al Pacino) video with the music. And I could also picture Salvatore in a new movie. two thoughts about the song - Lana reminds me of the girl Miriam (Guy's wife whom he wanted to divorce)(actress Laura Elliott who later was known as Kacey Rogers and was on Bewitched) from Hitchcock's Strangers on a Train who is with some friends and is followed by Bruno Anthony, and she buys an ice cream cone (soft ice cream) and seductively looks back at him as he follows her in the amusement park ignoring the boys she is with, while licking the ice cream cone. (or one can picture Sophia Loren doing the same thing).
  8. to those mentioning the great Tori Amos- just to put things in perspective, and to relate it to charts/sales from debut week- Talking about USA charts/sales here- In the 1990s, where sales were far bigger over all than today, (the USA top 10 on most weeks then would be #1 on 3/4 of the weeks of the year now.) Tori's best opening week was 153,000 sold. Tori is very similar to Lana in singles- (Lana actually has higher numbers) here are the numbers of all of Tori's singles that charted in the Hot 100 and the Bubbling Under charts (which is #101 to up to 125)- singles- 22, 38, 48, 49, 54, 60,65, 72, 91 (so there are nine hot 100) 107,108,112,114,119,120(bubbling under) total of fifteen singles to chart (Lana is up to I think 11 and she had a top 10.) albums-regular albums that charted- y kant tori read (no) 54-12-2-5-12-4-7-5-5-9-66-24-63-7 compilations- three different, one charted at #40 live one of two charted at 12 eps one of five charted at 94 as one can see, Lana has a #1, #2, #10 paradise, #20 ep and Honeymoon two great unique individuals and important trend setting artists, with similar chart stats Tori, in an age when it was far, far easier to amass gold and platinum due to actual go into the stores and buy the album btw-I have a feeling the record biz will change the rules of gold and platinum to deal with the lesser sales like they have adjusted many times in the past. I have a feeling it will be retroactive to 2010, and allow re-submission and might be as low as 25,000 for a gold in the US and 50,000 for a platinum. The RIAA has done it many times in the past. kudos to Tori and Lana.
  9. The more I listen, especially in my car, loud, the more I hear that I hadn't heard. The production (and I can't emphasis how great it is and important that she is one of the producers is amazing. And while some songs may be slow, they are also dances, slow dances. Her being as if she were from the 1960s, well in the 40s 50s 60s there were slow songs and there were waltzes and shuffles. One can slow dance and groove to many of the songs if one puts their mind into it. Much the same way Ultraviolence had on West Coast and Shades of Cool It's all really romantic and one other thing- still not positive that Lana is not singing about Elizabeth or is it Elizabeth singing about Lana. for those that might not have read it, my take on the cover photo is Elizabeth on a family tour of the stars (sister Chuck took the pictures) like a regular person who is on a tour of the stars and one of the stars is femme fatale of the film noir era Lana Del Rey. In many of the songs, the person she could theoretically be talking about is herself. If one listens to it as that. and one last thing- not a bad song. Most artists give 3 singles or 4, and don't really care if you listen to the filler. Lana has no filler. Even if one might not like instantly a song, a month from now, that song might be the one on constant replay. No filler. (at least in my opinion)
  10. brooklynbaby- no. I was up in Canada for a week (ironically I saw Madonna in Montreal in concert), and didn't drive back from Quebec until late Thursday night and was too tired to wait 20 or so hours on line outside.(one of the disadvantages of getting older is not being able to bounce back as quick as I used to.) I Knew the line would fill up early that was no surprise. Glad everyone who was there got to talk and take a picture and get items signed. Glad Lana is still so nice and friendly. Possibly could have met me at Governors Ball or at a bunch of other concerts in the east, this past tour including my favorite one in Virginia/DC. (Or CT or Philly on the 2014 tour.) Talked to a lot of other fans at all those shows.
  11. iconic singer/songwriter David Gates wrote "And Aubrey was her name" in his hit song "Aubrey" (he was the lead singer of Bread) (Telly Savalas slayed with his cover of "It" have nothing against Drake or Taylor or Mariah Or Celine or any of the cookie cutter acts that go for the #1 singles ad nauseum and years later one can not remember even one of the songs they sang as all of them are so generic Taylor probably doesn't realize Ryan Adams is making fun of her in his new 1989 album,(in a Weird Al sort of way), same way he gets shoutouts to sing "Summer of 69" in his shows because his name sounds like Bryan Adams. Lana is iconic. Why some here don't seem to think so I have no idea. Fuck the haters. This is suppose to be the LANA board. Not third rate imitators or those going for singles You know, legendary cool actor Martin Milner (of Adam-12 and Route 66) just died. In his obits is a cool quote- he says Hi "People always thought I should be as big as the biggest superstars, but you know what, I never aspired to have to work it 24/7/365 to attain and then hold on to that status. So I guess that makes me a bum". What a great quote. His fans never forgot him and mourned his death, and Adam-12 is seen everyday on Cozi-TV and his show co-star still goes around making appearances (which Martin did until he was too ill to do so). The comparisons for Lana are with Leonard Cohen and Joni Mitchell and the Dead and Jonathan Richman and Lou Reed and Iggy Pop and Klaus Nomi and all those who can sing for 50 years and do whatever they fucking feel like and not worry about getting a number one album (Hell, it took James Taylor 45 years for his recent was his first #1 album). Do you think he gives a shit? Beats the hell out of working a day job 9 to 5. Artistes rule. Picasso wasn't popular when he was alive. Neither were most artists. I know over 50 years, I have continually returned to Leonard Cohen, and you know what 99% of the world has no idea who he is. He could walk next to most people and they don't have a clue. He retired for a decade, then came back and sold out Madison Square Garden, but in reality- who wants to see him in a 20,000 seat arena? I remember the cafes and clubs where he is right in front. But cool is, he could sell out the Garden and Radio City Music hall and has never had a hit single or #1 album. Why are people so concerned about how many Lana sells? The entire music world wrote her off 4 years ago, and how cool is it she has a #2 record, with FANS and supporters who will remember her decades from now without a hit single. Why does she need to have one or two hit singles, when she releases a full album and there is not one bad song on it, and they are meant to be listened to in the order they are in, in full. Song 1 to 14 of Honeymoon. Everything isthere for a reason in the order they are put. Without one of them, its like ripping a chapter out of a book. Feel free to disagree. I don't post to have a conga line of people agreeing with me. I post what I believe and feel. Not to please those that seemingly can't be pleased at anything. Congratulations Elizabeth on a great written, produced, sounding album Honeymoon that continues the standard of excellence NO ONE else provides. (As you say yourself in Honeymoon the song). There ain't nobody else for me but you musically in the 2000s. (Or as you say in the bridge in American). (and the funny thing is, Leonard Cohen said the exact same thing in his recent song "Slow"). (Was he listening to Lana when he wrote Slow?) Great artistes create great art. the art is what matters even if no one buys it But #2 in a week Drake releases something is fucking fantastic for an artist the entire world wrote off (but I didn't) three or four years ago. Lana now has- 5 Top 20s on the Billboard 200. 4 Top 10s. Fucking fantastic!
  12. I don't know if people realize- Don't let me be misunderstood which was written for Nina, had 3 American hit versions in 3 different eras 1950s Nina 1960s Animals had a rock version 1970s Santa Esmeralda had a disco version Lana's is a blend of the first two making it into her own vision of it with her own meaning coming through. She is not imitating here. And The Other Woman fit the theme of Ultraviolence so well, (and should have been used in the final episode of Mad Men on tv if they had a scene of all the girls who slept with Jon Hamm over the years juxtaposed with his wife throughout the years).
  13. leakedversion- it always seems like you take big delight in putting Lana down. Who needs haters when you and a few others appear to be the same trolls in every comment section on the internet (maybe you are.) You bathe your posts in negatives. Being that Drake is probably the biggest male recording act out there, no matter who released an album, Drake would be #1. And Drake has the 2 largest openings (though mixtapes aren't really even LPS.) This day and age, people dropping albums at last minute seem to work and beats those who announce in advance. (I mentioned this a few months ago when all the Debbie downers were saying there is no info coming out. Lana could have sold 5x and still been #2. So congratulations as you appear to be jumping for joy with your negative posts and most will be too timid to call you on it. btw, speaking of inauthentic acts, Drake comes to mind. He is a rich tv star from Canada, who has zero credibility with actual rappers, and whose name is Aubrey (a girls name at that) who took a phony name and phony persona yet nobody mentions any of that in the press. Again, its all the haters that keep putting Lana down and seem to be oh so happy at bad news. Meanwhile- Lana has a Top 20 R&B/HipHop song on Billbard, this week, the one and only white person on that chart (and now ranks with Elton John and Elvis Presley and a few others who had their songs enter the R&B/Hip-Hop Hot 100 charts. and it will be interesting to see if Lana has a #1 in the US Vinyl album, and a #1 Album sales album (as Drake is not a physical issue, he should not qualify for that. And spent a full 7 days at #1 on I-tunes with the pre-sale and after sale. So forever, Honeymoon has #1's across the board. but keep partying in negativity. I try to be positive. But sometimes, one has to remark on the bullying and hatred one sees of Lana on the internet. Shame that it is right here on the Lana boards. meanwhile Ryan Adams is copying Taylor Swift who is copying Lana. The irony is drippingly delicious ain't it. (And Ryan's versions are better than Taylor's. How cool is that.
  14. Interesting song, though it doesn't sound completely finished, like there should have been a final verse a song that sounds like going forward happy then fade to black. sad the two sound good together, it's a shame they can't record even if they are not together (much like George Jones and Tammy Wynette did duets after they broke up).
  15. to the always negative Debbie downers seemingly so happy that Drake will be #1- and saying how lazy Lana is- just remember If Drake sells 500,000 to a million, no matter how much promo anyone would do, that is the 2nd highest total of any artist in 2015. Meaning one can do 4 times what Lana did, and still be #2 behind Drake not to mention a mixtape isn't an lp or cd and one has to laugh- Drake, whose real name is not Drake nor anything to do with the name Drake, who is a rich tv star from Canada and has zero authenticity in the rap world. Yet, no one seems to ever mention that. (and Future's name is not Future and Weeknd's name isnot Weeknd.) Such hypocrites. Meanwhile Lana now has 4 Top 10's and 5 top 20's on the official billboard record book. (and to those that say two were EPS, well they along with Drake's two #1 mixtapes count officially in the billboard record books as the same as lps. 4 top 10's. Do folks know that the Grateful Dead only had ONE top 10 and never had a top 5 LP in their entire career. 30 to 40 to 50 years from now, Lana can still appear and play to her fans, when she is say as old as Leonard Cohen or Joni Mitchell, both of whom Lana has better chart lifetime stats already. sick and tired of the Debbie downers attempting to spoil the party. Ain't nothing in the world wrong with #2 or #3, and remember, how many copies of Weeknd's CD did Lana fans buy, who never in their life would have purchased one? Congratulations Lana on your #2 or #3 album. And I bet Honeymoon goes #1 on the vinyl chart. (yes, Billboard has a Vinyl album chart.) and it was #1 on I-Tunes, for the equivlant of a full week, between release and advance sale days).
  16. Lana should ask Julee Cruise to sing backup And if someone is providing funding, strings
  17. Trouble with releasing with weeks/month in advance is it allows some major tacky singles artist to do a surprise drop. All part of the game. But then this mixtape has zero physical release so there is no need for a set-up in advance. (so basically it is cheating, like how Mariah Carey got almost all her #1 singles). #2 or #3 is still great (sorry to disappoint you). It will be considered Lana's 4th Top 10 album in the USA (as the official historian of Billboard counts Paradise in the tally in his books. With a #1 forever hers with Ultraviolence. Very few album oriented artists ever have had that many. (not talking about the single whores that sell their soul). (She now has more than Grateful Dead, Leonard Cohen, Amy Winehouse, the list is endless). Lana also forever has a recorded in the books #16 R&B/HipHop single with her duet with Weeknd. Not all that many white artists can lay claim to that. (and if it is released later on as an actual single, it would go even higher.)

    Salvatore

Anyone notice- In the classic John Lennon Beatles song "Strawberry Fields forever" there is a fake ending, silence, then a little more music comes back for a few seconds that music is the very start of Salvatore. One could listen to the two back to back and they would seque into each other. Soft ice cream reminds me of licking an ice cream cone on a hot summer NYC day (and one can picture it) also, Tangerine Dream is a music group
  19. It's been #1 in the US on ITunes for 3 days now, and was #1 for 3 days when the advance purchase became available. (plus all the other sources and physical purchases Billboard counts in the USA.)
  20. @@Greenwich billboard charts- it should be the issue dated Oct.10, revealed Tuesday Sept. 29.
  21. As probably one of the older people here (horrible thought, I used to be all of your ages), I was aware and into Lana as Lizzy early on. (and this is going to have a few separate parts to it) However, in 2011-2012 had a major health problem ended up in hospital for 5 days (though no procedure was done). Doctor called it almost like a parent does- he gave me a time-out to reevaluate my daily intake of food and real soda. (In essence a cheese and coke addict (coke=cola) Not to mention it had been more than a decade of not going to the doc to begin with. While there with my computer completely listening to Lana/lizzy wall to wall and from major fan it turned to major inspiration. In reality, Lana saved my life. Sounds corny, family members think it is bull, however, it is true. She brought me through and afterwards as I continued to rehab my lifestyle, and for the first time in years began an exercise program where I swim (now at least an hour a day). And I swam to her in perfect timing (Lana's beats per minute coincide with my hands slapping down into the water (Salvatore is the latest, but I do a perfect sync to Video Games and Pawn shop blues for instance. Lana is for those in some ways bullied, flawed, injured, in a way that is not describable and that I never felt before. A little background for the other thing- I am someone who was around throughout the 60s and music and politics was my life's fun. (WABC top 40 radio, Cousin Brucie and Dan Ingram DJs) where in the summers in NYC at the beach just about every one of what seemed like millions of beach goers in Coney Island and Riis Park had their transistor radios all tuned together, so if one walked from the beach to the shack to buy a coke in a green bottle on a day when the sand burned the feet and it was feeling like 100degrees (f). (WABC continued into the early 1980s before become a shitty conservative talk radio I wouldn't be caught dead listening to). From actually being there when the English invasion began, Roy Orbison in real time, Sinatra with his 60s hits (That's life, Something Stupid, My Way, NY NY) and seeing Elvis Presley live in concert (and to this day his later 60s/70s songs are my favorite as I heard them live time real time as they were happening) Seeing Duke Ellington live in concert, Simon & Garfunkel live in Forest Hills stadium in their prime. Saw Nina Simone and Aretha and Ray Charles then going to the earliest days of Elton John and Bernie Taupin (1969 onward) From the mid70s discovered country music and went backward to the 1940s,1950s,1960s legendary artists saw Johnny Cash many times. (Went to see the Highwaymen and the first time I wondered, why is Johnny there. The second time I saw them, I already realized Johnny is the important part of the group, without him, there wouldn't have been the others) and first discovering Edith Piaf and Marlene Dietrich and Aznavour and Brel and bing Crosby (saw him live in NYC and saw him light the City Hall Christmas Tree and singing White Christmas) Then punk and new wave (Saw many acts at CBGBs and Max's Kansas City, saw Lou Reed many times Then continuing to Kate Bush and the Pet Shop Boys. (while continuing with Elton) and then, music started to suck big time. Sure there was a single or two that was great, but nothing that made me want to discover everything and anything about an artist and I was sure there never would be. My favorite songs of all time are and have been consistent over the years from the first time I heard them (and both were #1 and #2 the same week) 1968's MacArthur Park by Richard Harris & This Guy in Love by Herb Albert #3 The Boxer- Simon and Garfunkel 1969 #4 Whiter Shade of Pale- Gary Brooker's vocal as Procol Harum 1968 #5 Elton John's Someone saved my life 1975 Until I heard Elizabeth Grant sing and her songs, and it made me think- If I myself would put together the perfect musical act, with a spoonful of all the artists in the past, Lana would be the one. It is uncanny. Now, if I made up my all time Top 100, at least 40 songs would be Lana's. After decades of the list never changing. anyhow...again, Elizabeth Grant saved my life. And I thank her for doing just that. What an inspiration and what a perfect person for the age when bullying and abuse is heard in the news almost daily. and as I keep saying, Lana has transcended above every single female artist, writing lyrics as poetry and the music too, and producing, and the sounds and music are akin to Brian Wilson "Smile" or the Beatles "Sgt. Pepper's". (and the Beatles were 4 people, 2 main songwriters (John and Paul) and George Martin producing. or Elton's Goodbye Yellowbrick Road or Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy (and Elton only does the music and doesn't produce, and Bernie writes the lyrics) And how important it is- she PRODUCED every song on the Honeymoon album. She is one of the boys in the highest parts of music. And I don't give a shit if nobody else here agrees with me. A complete artiste in a world filled with cookie cutter copies. One Lana/Elizabeth. Others attempt to copy, attempt her style, but one hears a Lana song and it's a Lana song. Like eating a slice of pizza or a bagel outside of New York City and they call it NY Style. But it ain't New York Original. note- I might edit this, but for now graham4anything.
  22. Science Love and Peace Only Democratic folks believe in science Liberals want love and peace and I might be the only one who thinks so, but everytime I hear "American" I can picture it to be about President Obama would say a 1960s/1970s NYC Southern California Liberal would say she might have been (were she older) an early Jerry Brown fan during his younger days, continuing to today, and a John V. Lindsay (NYC Mayor 1960s/70s) fan. (Bobby, JFK, Dr. King, Eleanor Roosevelt), etc.
  23. lafleursavage and addicted- actually that is reminiscent of the Leonard Cohen Hallelujah song. It is a song about an orgasm and glorious sex using methaphors and not religious at all. But most of the hundreds who copied the song didn't realize it (and most don't copy all the verses. great songwriters and singers think alike.
  24. Best Shades of Cool American and every other song she has released (assuming in this thread released means on a record, if not, then every song she has or someone has shared with us that she has sung or wrote worst song? as of 9/18/2015 at 652pm eastern time, there has NOT been a worst song. They all qualify as Best. There is not one song I skip over or fast forward past.
