I love that she loves people who see the music as concept albums and doesn't get that some don't see it. And traveling with a record player answers the question of where does she play the lps she travels with LOL Would love to know if she will be part of Maleficent 2 that was just talked about. This time with an original song perhaps so it is Oscar eligible. -
One of the greatest US Presidents once said "If I walked across the Potomac River in Washington, all the press/media would report the next day was "LBJ can't swim". (President Lyndon B. Johnson) the only review that matters to me is my own. Next time I hear a song of Lana's I don't like, I don't respect, I am not awed by the songwriting, the lyrics, the music, will be the first time that occurs. Lana continues to be unique and the one and only female vocalist in rock and roll history (1955 to the Present) who has transcended female vocalists and is truly one of the boys when it comes to comparing her to. She is both Elton & Bernie (as Elton only writes the music & Bernie the lyrics) Leonard Cohen, Paul Simon, Bob Dylan, Lou Reed, Roy Orbison, Willie Nelson, Grateful Dead, Jimmy Webb, Kris Kristofferson, etc. When you hear a Lana song, it is a Lana song. And written, lyrics/music AND now Producer too. She has inspired a nation of Lana's, copying her, however, they are not her. (Taylor, Miley all want to be her, but there is only one original. Shame is they are embarrassed of who they are that they need to find inspiration in her to exist it seems). There is no one out there that is like her. Not one bad song out of what? 400 so far. Quality remains a true artist. The media almost all male based don't get to define her, so they hate her. She won't adapt to them, so they hate her. (take for instance the BBC interviewer a few days ago- he did not even do his homework "Lana have you done movie work"??? What a schmuck. (And she didn't even mention Gatsby LOL) When she doesn't do much media, I don't blame her. Would you want to deal with these idiots? They (the entire media) should all go fuck themselves.

More important question is- is she still in NYC and is she doing anything in NY? And is she coming back to NY to do something immediately after? Funny thing is, if it were me, I would buy all 120 that are available myself. 120 in 120 minutes means about 20 seconds per person (especially if each person snaps a pix with and blathers on too long and if she wastes time to dedicate them.) I remember when Kate Bush came to NYC (think it was Dec. 9, 1993) and signed at Tower Records and I went on and on and the people got really nasty behind me (and there were supposedly two thousand people on line) and they didn't limit you to just the lp. (and then later that night getting the entire box set singles signed (each individual picture sleeve, she signed all of them for me). She wore a to the floor green coat.

The next new music cd will be the next chapter in the continuing saga, as everything is connected conceptually Will have to see what concerts she does in 2016 and if any movie or tv soundtrack songs happen. and the possibility that she takes family time off (though a singer/songwriter never stops having time to write songs, as the mind never stops moving. So probably a year from now new music will show up One would think she already has continuing ideas in her head

What format are you getting your Honeymoon copy in?
graham4anything replied to brooklynbaby91's topic in Lana Thoughts
box, vinyl, download, and physically walking into store to purchase first day -
boys=players (band, studio musicians) music terminology I think she is talking about being either in a recording studio or in concert and while she is singing music, she is watching the boys (though it wouldn't surprise me if no one here sees it, and proving once again Lana has transended any past female singer and is in the rarified area of the male singers/groups btw, have another thought about this song, but that's for a different thread

@ No. I disagree Dan is telling the interviewer that the interviewer knows it, because the press is one of the reasons spewing the hate Lana line. Dan himself was jealous of Lana and a hater, until he wasn't. James Franco himself was not a fan, until all the SNL backlash started, and he realized she was not only being attacked bully style, but that she preservered and outlasted her critics and is flying high now. James himself has similar problems. Elizabeth/Lana has stated numerous times, she wants the "collective" creative experience, much like the 1950s/1960s poetry cafes in NYC and SF and wants to be one the boys so to say. Hits and commercial success on others terms is not important. Being respected in the community is more so, and Dan now respects her, James now respects her, and you can tell the music industry respects her because they are now telling their own artists "give me Lana" BUT all those artists are eager to play the game to be commercial and have hits, and will do anything for a hit ("you're a whore" she admonished to Lorde in IFMWTTT). So the unique one spawns every other clone (including Taylor who really, come on, owes Lana a songwriting royalty for Wildest Dreams, and Miley releases a psycadelica type lp that without Lana having existed she never would have done. They all want to be her. So, put me down, but Lana is going to be looked at as influencial musically as say the solo Michael Jackson without being Michael herself. (She won't have the hits, the flash, the fireworks in a show). But she spawns the industry the same way and 800 people have sung "Hallelujah". Guess what, only Leonard Cohen WROTE IT. Yet in a 50 year career, he himself never hit the singles charts (sarcasm-OMG he mentioned Leonard Cohen again). The Honeymoon video, the tour bus in the video, the sign at Mel's It is quite simply to put something I posted sometime earlier- Elizabeth Grant being photographed by her sister Chuck, is riding in the bus going to tour the stars homes of the all-time greats, and guess what, Lana Del Rey is one of the mega-stars houses being visited on this fictional tour bus. Elizabeth photographed by Chuck could have special meaning. An ordinary person boarding a tour of the stars bus will normally have someone (family, spouse, friend) with them, who snaps a picture of them looking at the stars sites wide eyed in anticipation. I for one find the optics stunning. and nobody ever gave a shit that Archibald Leach became Cary Grant and Lucille Fay LeSeuer became Joan Crawford or Marion Morrison became John Wayne were not their real names and that legendary movie Cowboy Roy Rogers came from Chicago and was named Leonard Slye. Nobody ever questioned them nor said they were not authentic. In Hollywood, everything is an illusion. -

re:the methodology of the way they are counting for charts (streaming, downloads, physical purchases, etc.) I think one can't compare last year, prior years and this year. Think it is broken and it goes to all artists. Think billboard is skewering toward a specific service and not counting anymore some older ones (let alone the I heart network literally doing legal payola Is one of the newer methods paying for their method counting and paying to insure others not counting? I am not sure the numbers can be relied on to be accurate for any artist. Billboard magazine is now giving the artists who appeared at their festival more publicity and seemingly higher chart numbers So billboard magazine themselves is not just the reporter, but they are creating the news, skewering the news and it reeks of payola Those that played their fest get high numbers. Something really sucks in this and it almost reminds me of how the country music industry was able to wipe out in 1989 any and all older artists and completely change just by only charting certain radio stations (120 out of thousands) who played just what 2 or 3 people wanted to have played). One would think if this is what is happening, it affects all artists and they should be concerned. of course, the negative meme some above start being taken as the truth is also wrong, but if its continually repeated it, more and more posters start with the false meme and then repeat it, so there may actually be no problem at all. the problem may be in thinking that in BTD Lana's single numbers were more than they were in the USA- Born to die itself did not chart on the top 100 singles Video Games was #91. So for all the talk on fifty or so pages in this thread, we are talking about one #91 single from BTD (prior to the remix unexpected SS #6). Comparing BTD album (#2 on the charts debut, still on the charts) with sales frm UV (#1 debut) is impossible. People are not buying in numbers from a few years ago (and BTD had two separate releases and the deluxe w/Paradise release added sales to the total.) -

Lana is truly like Leonard Cohen both prior to his retirement and his more recent and others like Lana He does almost nothing to command attention, yet gets attention every time he pops up somewhere. Every once in a blue moon he does an interview or tv, almost always reluctantly BTW- I would predict that next up Lana will surprise again however, more likely the next release will be some sort of greatest hits (redundant for the fans unless there are lots of unreleased songs included but normally she is already well over due for that) or a live album release possibly using all the different songs she sang on her tours (a two or three disk set?) Followed by some sort of new music shortly after that. (and still hoping for an out of the blue Christmas single in true Lana style). Wish people would stop comparing her to other run of the mill superstars or wannabees going for #1 songs. One day will post a thread comparing Lana to the people she should be compared to, and show how single chart wise, she already has done more/better than almost all those people and the correct comparison for Lana is not with other female singers, who she already towers over, but with the historic male singers of the past that are considered icons. (for instance, Lana has better single chart status already lifetime in the USA than Kate Bush, Amy Winehouse and Joni Mitchell, and Leonard Cohen never hit the singles charts and only recently obtained a high chart album. More on that at another time in another thread. -

@ Dan was a hater prior to that and Lana won him over In fact Lana EARNED HIS RESPECT and admiration Her way. She has to do it her way. Dan gets it. She is not one of those looking at her copying her and possibly even getting more commercial momentary success(say Lorde comes to mind, let alone she deserves a writers credit for Taylor's Wildest Dreams which steals Lana directly) -
Cool if this is real, that Lana is producer on every song.

among all of them-songs that are story songs and one can pain a picture listening to, songs that have meaning and attempting to figure out what meaning, etc. Taking a common phrase and inserting or inverting it so that it changes a word in a different verse or song and one has to catch the change as if it were a Highlights magazine Hidden Picture puzzle How something can mean something one day, then the next one thinks of a different meaning (much like say Paul Simon) Lucky ones Born to Die Pawn shop blues is incredible (and having recently to clear the house of a person close to us who died, and having to go through all the stuff, tossing some things out, frantically figuring out where to put something one doesn't want to throw out, and driving back and forth listening to this song brought tears to my eyes each time, even though specifically that is not the meaning of the song, that is the mark of a great songwriter) Brooklyn Baby Ride The Ride monologue and end American (I actually picture that song being about Barack Obama even though it isn't) I fucked my way to the top Yayo (and it doesn't matter which version of it, the songwriting stands alone) High by the beach (how it seemingly was about one thing then it obviously was not about that, but was about something else entirely) and the way she inserts a grunt, a groan, a moan

what are you talking about??? Ultraviolence debuted at #1 on Billboards Top 200 album chart in the USA Sam Smith only got to number 2 and never has been at #1 on the album chart. Smith tried to fudge the rules and failed big time. But, he spent 2 hours up at Billboard doing who knows what and Billboard magazine loves him. (any guesses???) And Sam name dropped Lana 100 times in the week prior trying to get her fans to buy his copy of her LP and then he had the audacity to copy her on SNL, yet the sex biased SNL audience loved him and hated her. (any guess as to why?) 20 years from now, people will remember Lana. Sam will probably be in real estate or in a bank somewhere. Same with the 100s of other pretenders. I was looking at artists who started in 2005-6-7 and well, Lana is here today soon to have another amazing debut, and almost all those artists from that period have disappeared. 10 years and counting. -

@ I mentioned this a week ago on four other posts Perhaps at the other end of it all, Elizabeth Grant will release albums and free herself from the abuse the media and haters gave her for being Lana Del Rey Maybe in singing Serial Killer and other songs recently again, and in smiling to the audience and in that MOAN in Serial Killer, is the inspiration to just be Elizabeth and to show the world she unveiled the curtain like in Oz and revealed the truth she already had. That Elizabeth Grant is the single most unique, inspiring and talented individual in the arts that has come along in a couple of decades and no matter what anyone calls it, the writing and her voice stands alone and be it that only a few or billions hear it or just Elizabeth singing to her future kids or partner or her family and friends, that stands first and foremost. Much like the 3 to 5 different versions of Yayo don't mask the fact that it is a great great lyric and song no matter which of Elizabeth's voices she is singing it in. And better than anything any other artist in the last decade has released. I am along for the ride 24/7/365 Fuck the bullies. Elizabeth Grant was, is and always will be a WINNER. -

It's very simple about leaks- don't listen, don't forward, don't illegally download, buy the official versions and adults should be able to wait 3 weeks It's like so many here are kids at Christmas and rip open a little piece of wrapping paper to peak at the gift, then on Christmas there is no surprise. It's one thing for unreleased, never released extras But the album itself should wait until it is released so every click and download counts to her (so one then can't complain while depreiving her of a sale. unless of course one is here to mock her. @@SarcasticBeauty- btw- when she takes a few years off have kids, her kids will be instant millionaires too. How cool is that. And that is 100% thanks to her. Maybe she will do what Garth Brooks did and take 15 years off. Her fans will be there on the other side of that. And yes, it is artistic to sing and release music if one is a singer. The promo stuff has nothing to do with artistry. As the movie "Field of dreams" says "If you build it, they will come" The music is building it. Coming is up to the fans. (you decide if this is a pun or not). -

Now top 10 on ITunes USA -
In the USA- it was #1 for 3 days on ITunes as a pre-order More important than sales is, where on the LP chart it will debut- Top 10 is assured. Top 5 is assured The guess would be either #2 or #1 There is not much competition for new releases unless a surprise is dropped last minute by a major superstar Now maybe Billboard magazine will find another way to screw her, so won't say #1. Record sales itself (physical copies sold) are at an all time low It should debut at #1 on the Vinyl charts assuming they figure it correctly. In the official Billboard magazine all time charts, if it debuts Top 10, it will be her 4th Top 10 (as Paradise counts as the same as an album on the charts and came in at #10), and 5th Top 20.) Which is a hell of a lot more than most other female artists in their entire careers.

Lana makes hundreds of thousands of dollars on touring and royalties a year Everytime someone clicks on any youtube or any streaming or buys any merchandise (as long as it is authentic) Her songwriting makes hundreds of thousands and her songs being placed in movies and television shows (like American Horror having Jessica Lange sing Gods and Monsters makes so much more.) Just on songwriting and her 350 plus songs, she can live off of royalties for 250 years. When one doesn't need money, one is free to enjoy life any way they choose, and is not restricted to whoring themselves like the artists who have to be #1 on the singles chart every single week for a short period then fade out. As for Ed, he is going for #1 songs therefore, he is this years model next year forgotten. (BTW-whatever happened to Lorde?) (the amazing double entendre of "This years model" when Elvis Costello titled one of his best lps that. BTW- no one ever said anything about Elvis Costello changing his name and saying he was not authentic.) And I like his music, but he is irrelevant to Lana @@SarcasticBeauty- Please don't use the oldest anti-Lizzy meme about her father being rich That is so demeaning to Lana. Seems to me, from all one reads, Elizabeth herself has been the prime caretaker for her two sibblings, and it seems to me, Elizabeth herself is the one financing her family now. sheesh. and btw, I fell in a trap the other day- the long post I was answering did something very swift- The first line was written as a given. I disagree with that line 100%, It laid out a whole spiel that Lana was failing, bla bla bla. While I said I disagreed with it, some of my response on the followup response might have had readers not know that I100% disagreed with the premise and another thing- with regard to airplay-in the USA on USA charts these days almost ALL songs start off with downloads and slowly airplay winds its way across the USA So a song would debut the first eligible chart week, drop quickly, then if radio kicks in the weeks/months after, it moves back up the charts (or reenters). Some songs these days take 50 weeks to become a radio hit. Not that Lana is going for hit singles in the first place. -

Fucked my way to the Top was a slapdown of imiatator Lorde who so many times namedropped Lana and copied every single thing about her. She wasn't saying Lorde was an actual whore, she was saying Lorde and every other imitator is an ATTENTION NAME DROPPER whore. An attention media whore. Lorde whored herself to the media getting a #1 single and style that copied Lana (however, Lorde can't seem to find any new material, and recently fired some managers). 20 years from now, no one will remember Lorde. (BTW- why didn't the media call Lorde inauthentic, and changed her name and all? WHY? Because she played the media game and they loved her. She's a copy (mimicking me's a fucking bore) the press control her therefore the press from day one loved her. 20 years from now, Elizabeth Grant will be remembered.

It seems a lot of people here are not from the USA. I don't know if they realize, the end of August, almost all TV talk shows are in reruns and in America, there is a holiday first weekend in Sept. called Labor Day Everyone is partying and at the beach and having fun. Even if Lana wanted to do publicity right now, there are no shows to go on. Sept. 7- Labor Day (Monday) Sept. 8, Stephen Colbert takes over for David Letterman on CBS and the first weeks guests are already known. Sept. 11 is still a big deal in America and thankfully her album is coming out the following week. Imagine the uproar if it dropped 9/11. So if any tv were done it would be the end of the following week around album release time, and NO shows have announced their schedules for that week yet, it is too early. but then if there isn't fake angst and uproar by those who appear to not even be fans (seems for some reason there is more positive talk on this board over a failed Voice singer from 2012 who released a second rate copy cd recently than on Lana, which must be someone getting paid for clicks to that artist, and I won't give that artist publicity so won't name
