i like these songs. i still listen to them about every other day. theyre very personal and beautiful and relatable to me. however, i understand the “its nothing new” conversation because its really not... lana’s whole career was switching up her sound and look every era to give something new and fresh and it almost seems like she’s run out of directions to turn. i wouldnt mind if she revisited sounds like honeymoon or ultraviolence but she seems like shes channeling the most boring sound in her discography. i also think if chemtrails was never released and this was a follow up to NFR/VBBOTG then they would make a lot more sense and i even think we would love them a lot more. chemtrails really fucked up the flow of her discography BECAUSE she knew it wasnt her best work but she wanted to release it anyway. it was kinda filler to her. idk... i just hope her discography gets back on track with this album. i’ll listen to and enjoy anything she releases but it just seems like nothing will compare to the UV and HM days.

We've had a few weeks to digest these three singles now, and I think the reason why I can't get on board is because they don't bring anything new to the table for the listener. I understand that these are about things she obviously wanted to get off her chest, but if I were a new listener I don't think I'd find them the least bit interesting because sonically they don't go anywhere and the lyrics are only interesting because we are stans and we have some context for what she's singing about.
Maybe I'm wrong af but I can't imagine someone who's new to Lana listening to these and being captivated by them. As a stan I can't see that they add anything new or original to her discography iykwim. Idk who the audience is supposed to be and I'm still confused as to what her reason for releasing these was, especially with the lack of promotion. It's like she has all of these wonderful unreleased songs (well, I THINK some of them are wonderful ... maybe one day we'll find out) but she leaves all of those on her laptop and gives us these, which are really glorified diary entries.
I'm not trying to sound mean or anything I just don't get it I guess? I can't imagine her ever singing these live because they're so personal and they feel like a once-of thing rather than something she'd revisit. Considering she pretends that Honeymoon doesn't exist I just cannot see her wanting to perform a song about her father's wife abusing her and ending up in the hospital on lithium, but maybe she'll surprise us

I’d love Ben to come on here because I’d tell him straight he has no balls and thus is a useless sack of shit. Tapp Management are half baked and don’t instruct Lana properly..far far too soft. Same for her Label, they need a good kick up their backsides. If I ran a Label and had an artist releasing lazy album covers, didn’t want to promote their music and kept announcing bogus release dates they’d be sternly warned and then dropped If it continued. Lana knows she’d never get away with this behaviour elsewhere.  Management and her Label need to rein her in and have her start taking things seriously again. 

am i the only one who doesn’t really care about her lyrics anymore? like we got so many great poetic lyrics since nfr. i’d want at least an album where the focus is on otherworldly production and not the lyrics (yeah yeah i know she’s a songwriter poetry yada yada yada i see y’all coming) but like at this point i’d take another repetitive sad girl chorus or her talking about her farts over dreamy electrical wah wah guitars, synths and a string orchestra over another minimalist, poetic piano song  ANY FUCKING DAY

in that case she can prepare herself to say goodbye to her career and so can we  she’s not beyoncé, the "lemme me stay silent" treatment won’t work for her, it barely works for beyoncé anymore and she’s 20 levels above lana popularity wise. if she seriously thinks barely cracking a million streams after weeks or having the atrocious numbers cocc did will let her keep her contract or be profitable for her label for another 10 years she’ll unfortunately soon have a very rude awakening. that combined with the fact most of the gp hate her and interscope having more and more new artists to focus on thus needing her less and less….i’ll give her another era before they’ll either drop her completely or cut her funds…. we’re threatened with even more homemade videos with nikki GOD TAKE ME OUT 

There's a lot of snowflacks on here. I should know. I have half of the people of this thread on ignore who have had a nervous breakdown for the mere mention of Lana's fillers, horrible album covers and her goddamn laziness.
These snowflakes take it personal and then attack you. I was even mocked here last year when I spoke about my brother dying from a cardiac arrest for being overweight. None of those people were banned.

i still don’t get why tho? like girl you literally had all the critical acclaim you’ve ever wanted during nfr? the sheer number of people who criticized her, locals and the media who finally started loving her… SHE destroyed all of that with her delusional feeling of persecution. she got the media to hate on her with that embarrassing letter. she put on that dumb mask to get a reaction out of people. she made those racially insensitive comments about the cover and black rapper bf’s. she said the embarrassing things during the annie interview. none of this would’ve ever happened if she didn’t speak about it in the first place. she wasn’t the underdog anymore she was the critically acclaimed grammy nominated songwriter everyone suddenly respected… she herself made people see her as the underdog again when they weren’t even doing it at that time… i get she’s probably traumatized from a decade of undeserved hate but why blow all of this the second you finally get the positive acclaim you always wanted ? god she’s so confusing

i kinda feel a bit like this tbh. i loved nfr but it never hit me like others did before. i loved cocc but it feels like a 9 track ep with something missing. i loved the 3 singles and i still listen to them a lot but they aren’t necessarily new or groundbreaking sound wise. i feel like i’ll give her a last chance with this album (and probably the one after cause i’m a weak bitch) but if this ends up as another "let’s strip it back to pretend it’s deeper than it is" album that’ll feel like it’s missing that certain…magic, fullness, replay value, excitement whatever you wanna call it then….truly idk…but i honestly don’t see myself stanning same sounding piano ballads for forever let’s just say that (or maybe i’ll do but i’ll be pretty pissed about it and complain a lot). 

I know this will be an unpopular opinion but I'm not excited simply because I'm expecting her to be lazy and not put out anything substantial.
TB, WW, BB were lazy. Sure, cute songs with refreshing lyrics, but lazy. 
 
There's no ambition with her anymore. Her music & career seem like a total afterthought. 
So I'm fine with her taking a break to relieve both our and her burnout, if it means higher quality work in a few years

You're reading my mind for everything you said. I just find it fun to hang out here but I don't have a huge expectation. My friends don't give a shit about Lana since NFR so they don't even want to have this conversation lmao. Just her artwork and production is not convincing that this will be something WOW. 
Her stans are so annoying with defending her work for being aUtHeNtIc as if catchy well produced music with an organized era and good aesthetic can't be. Literally people in this forum have awesome ideas and people in Lana's subreddit have awesome fan made artwork and vinyl designs. People wrote deep, raw and dark lyrics and made iconic music so that's a very bad excuse.

Didn't Katy Perry eventually decide to go with a fan's artwork of her recent album? Lana take notes! Honestly the artwork some of you create for Lana is astounding, like genuine talent right there. It's lowkey embarrassing how a major label can't produce the same level of effort when it comes to the aesthetic side of things. It's not asking for the whole world. What's so bad about having a cover that truly conveys the overall theme and meaning of the music?

what’s even wrong with wanting a well thought out, eventful era with concerts, live performances, clear info, great photoshoots and most importantly someone who at least PRETENDS to somewhat care about her art. 
and i agree the fact random people with a smartphone, an online thread and stalker tendencies like us come up with better ideas, concepts, covers and designs than a whole modern "pop star" with a huge record label on her side is just beyond me. like at this point just hire someone from here and we’ll do half your work for you…for free ().

Didn't Chuck shoot Honeymoon? I love that cover and I think that she can do great things. It's Lana who needs a new creative outlet and concentrates more on her creative vision.
 
She sold herself not only as a singer, but as a visual artist as well. It's really unfair on her part not to put any effort into that. Minimalistic is one thing, lack of vision and laziness is in a completely different range

i know this isn’t 2010-2014 ldr anymore and that’s the whole problem. honeymoon was a very lowkey era yet it was 10 times more thought out and professional than anything we’ve gotten since. even lfl as and era was nearly perfect, especially compared to anything since nfr. she can do whatever she wants sure but one more era like this and she’s out. the "her fans will buy anything and support anything" only goes so far. it already shows on here, the sheer number of people who are either unstanning or seriously getting tired of her unprofessionalism, none of us will put up with her carelessness forever and it just starts to get annoying that she seems to be the only person who doesn’t give a fuck about her art when she should. none of us want to see her fade away or lose her contract or give up and let the media and haters win but that’s kinda what she’s been doing for a while now and it’s just… very irritating.

Everything is a ‘disrespect to Lana and her work’ these days we need to stop being sensitive to criticism towards her.  If you look at it this way it might even be a compliment…Producing a whole album by yourself is no easy feat and I think she could do it. 

I’m just praying Text Book is the only song even alluding to something political. I’m not exactly saying she isn’t allowed to voice her political opinions but it’s rarely tasteful or articulate when she does.

I don't agree with anything that she said after that, but she had a point. Lana could have talked with Kanye in private or made a post on her social media about how sad it is seeing artists that she admire supporting Trump (without name dropping for the lord's sake).
 
Instead, she went straight to Kanye's page declaring that his support to Trump was a "loss for the culture". It's easy shooting a man when he's already down. Lana got the fame to be anti Trump while he declined even more in the public's eye.
 
Lana is always cherry picking her causes. She never openly showed support to any liberal agenda (she doesn't have to, but it's easy pointing fingers to the ones that are open about their beliefs when you're keeping yours private). 
 
One of the reasons that she gave to her position was Trump's misconduct. Didn't she after that had a collab with Børns and Jared Leto? Attended a homophobic church? Smells like double standards for me.
 
I don't think that her opportunism was conscious. But she should think twice and avoid talking about politics unless she develops stronger values and it's ready to live for it
