kraljicabenzinske 11,476 Posted January 22, 2021 Summoning all the gays & girls of Lanaboards, the time has come for us to finally discuss… THE WINX CLUB. Netflix has just released a brand new show called Fate: The Winx Saga, which is basically a live-action remake of the famous girl power fantasy cartoon Winx Club. Yes, our favorite fairies are real people now! In six one hour episodes, Fate follows the life of fairies with magical powers who attend Alfea and fight evil as they navigate through love & friendship. I was very excited for this because Winx raised me up and turned me gay back in the late 2000s when waking up every morning to catch the newest episode was my reason to live. Sadly, when Nickelodeon took over the show around 2010, it lost all of its quality and depth and turned into this circus show for 5 year old children. That’s why Fate has been marketed as a young adult series, so I take it this is their attempt to draw back the older audiences who grew up with the original show. So, here’s the main cast: (from left to right: Stella, Terra, Bloom, Musa, Aisha) The main character Bloom is played by Abigail Cowen, whom you might recognize from Netflix’s Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. Sadly, our girls Flora & Tecna got dropped out of the lineup (I guess budget cuts!!). Rip tho… However, this new girl Terra seems to be a fairy of nature (and she even says Flora is her cousin), so at least we got that. No sight of Tecna tho. Specialists are there too and will surely provide us with some romance storylines. As for the villains, there’s this girl Beatrix who’s said to resemble the original Trix witches. So, any fans of the original show out there? Are you planning to or did you check out Fate and what are your thoughts & feelings? Let’s gossip!
lanasgirl 3,800 Posted January 22, 2021 Hi hi hi! I'm so excited! I grew up with the TV show and comic books. I love the Winx Club so much! I'm watching the pilot right now and I'm gonna binge watch the rest this weekend, however I'm a little sceptical. I agree with most of what is said in this video below and I would hate for this to turn out to be a dark, Riverdale-esque kind of reboot. I hope they prove me wrong but the trailer wasn't cute. I really miss Flora and Tecna already.
Lavender Sunshine 4,246 Posted January 22, 2021 Yass I grew up watching the new episodes in the morning during breakfast lol some relatives even bought me a Stella doll Anyways I am planning to check it out and I don't really mind that they removed Flora and Tecna (as iconic as they were, already miss them ) as long as they managed to keep the original concept. Although as lanasgirl rightly pointed out, the trailer does suggest that it'll be more dark, maybe to appeal to all ages. I still hope it lives up to longtime fans' expectations 2 Quote 𝖑𝖆𝖘𝖙.𝖋𝖒|𝕷𝖆𝖛𝖊𝖓𝖉𝖊𝖗𝕲𝖗𝖗𝖗𝖑

Anyways, I rlly loved winx club as a kid but this show genuinely seems terrible. it gives off low budget british teen show vibes in a bad way. The outfits are also giving me very 2011 lifeless uninspired & generally ugly. The casting's also shit. The casting for Aisha and Bloom makes sense (even then, they did a terrible job styling them) but idk wtf happend with the rest..
kraljicabenzinske 11,476 Posted January 22, 2021 I just finished the first episode and I really liked it! There's a good mix of new things and similariites to the original cartoon. The show is definitelly going for the edgy Riverdale-like aestatics, but I don't really mind that. I like the girls; Bloom really has that new girl charm like the Bloom from season 1 of the show. One thing I dislike is how they portrayed her parents as evil because in the cartoon, they were the sweetest people always supporting her. And her stroyline of being a socially awkward edgy teen was meehhh... Bloom setting ther asses on fire was sad but kinda iconic. I love Terra and her quirky positive enegy and when she stood up to that bully I became a stan. I'm interested in the romance storyline with Terra and that guy she saved. Loved Aisha and how she helped Bloom and Musa seems ok. But Stella - what the hell was that. No resemblence to the cartoon character whatsoever. The original Stella is girly, fun, loud, exicted about everything but the one in Fate is just a straight up bitch. But maybe that's a good thing? Becuase there's a lot room for character development. Hopefuly she'll become a part of the group. The original Stella didn't give a fuck that she failed a year at Alfea, but this one is clearly mad about it. These are some of my thoughts for now, 5 more episodes to go! 2 Quote *:・゚✧*:・゚✧✿☆𝐦𝐲 𝐠𝐨𝐨𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐢𝐬 𝐦𝐲 𝐩𝐨𝐞𝐭𝐫𝐲☆✿✧・゚: *✧・゚:* *:・゚✧*:・゚✧✿☆𝐦𝐲 𝐬𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐢𝐬 𝐦𝐲 𝐥𝐞𝐠𝐚𝐜𝐲☆✿✧・゚: *✧・゚:*
jvcx 3,644 Posted January 22, 2021 I loved the animated series as a kid but this looks like absolute shit I won't spend a minute of my time on.
kraljicabenzinske 11,476 Posted January 22, 2021 I've finished all of the episodes and I have to say it's good - I really enjoyed it. Yeah, it's not exactly the Winx we grew up with. But the new things they added, the new stroylines of Bloom's origin, the ancient magic, the burned ones, etc. As i said, it's a really good mix of something old and something new. Honestly, I didn't miss the removed characters so much. I only wish they were more of a group, it took them all 6 episodes to come together and kind of like each other. Stella did progress but I would have liked to see more. Bloom transormed at the end which means the ancient magic that allsows them to transform still exists. There's just so much going on. I feel like Bloom's story is still so unclear. Everyone was kind of lying too much and constantly switching between being good and bad lol. The ending really gave us so much material for potential stroylines for season 2. But I'm afraid this will be just added to the endless sea of Netflix's series that were created just to be out there for a while and then get forgotten.
lanasgirl 3,800 Posted January 23, 2021 I'm done with episode 3 now. There's a lot of things that I like, even though the series is so very different from the original Winx Club. But there are also many things that I dislike. Some first thoughts: The writing is really off sometimes. There's so many weird scenes! And I can't even tell you how hard I cringed when they said the word "mansplain" twice in the first episode for no reason... what was that about? Whitewashing!!! But we knew that already. I still have hope that they'll bring Flora back for season 2. When Terra shares her insecurities, the others ignore it and don't try to lift her up. Why is Stella such a bitch? I mean, yes, she's self-centered but she also always cares about her friends? Also, her outfits are sooo boring. Stella and Sky?? Ugh. Where is Brandon? I love Beatrix, would've loved to see a trio of witches tho. I like Bloom, but she also seems a little off, angry for no reason other than "I'm a fire fairy, that's why!" And... WHERE ARE THE F*CKING WINGS? You "evolved"? Ok, then why did you call the series Winx?

This is like Winx if it happened in real world (magic adapted to reality, costumes adapted to reality as well). However, I do agree w/ the whole “mansplaining” and other stuff you said that they try too hard to make it feminist instead of trying it in an organic way. Anyway, keep watching ‘cause most of the stuff you dislike will be explained/make more sense throughout the rest of the season (esp. Stella’s personality). She was my fav on the OG and is my fav on this as well. PS: I also agree on Stella’s outfits. They could’ve been A LOT better, they’re not bad per sé, but they could be way better since she’s all “people have seen me w/ this outfit for an hour already, gotta change it”

I found it very cringe too.. They also mentioned feminism and patriarchy several other times... For almost 20 years it has been a show for girls, about girls and girl power and now all of a sudden it has to tell us it's feminist... no shit 2 hours ago, lanasgirl said: When Terra shares her insecurities, the others ignore it and don't try to lift her up Totally agree. I said the same thing, Fate lacked the sense of friendship and togetherness that the original show put so much emphasis on. But I see that's how teenagers on TV are today - acting cold, distant and bitchy towards your friends makes you edgy and cool. I don't remember Winx girls being like that. As you can see from my opinion, a lot of the differences come down to how teenagers were like in 2005 vs how they are today. In original, Bloom was also an outcast at her hometown - remember the popular girl Mizi who was a real bitch and hated Bloom? Well, Bloom didn't give a crap about it and was like "whatever" and moved on with her life and never took it out on her parents. However, in Fate, they turned her into this complete depressed outcast with zero friends who hates her parents because of it. Bloom's parents are IMO characters that Fate ruined the most. 2 hours ago, lanasgirl said: And... WHERE ARE THE F*CKING WINGS? You "evolved"? Ok, then why did you call the series Winx? Fianle spoiler: Spoiler In the finale, Bloom unlocks the "anceint magic" that they though was lost and sucessfully transforms and gets wigs. The transformation sequence was pretty nice actually. This makes me wonder if the rest of the girls will unlock the ancient magic too and transform in season 2 - that would be so cool.

Actions truly speak louder than words sometimes. Of course, it's great to be vocal about your beliefs! But it felt so weird and performative. 19 hours ago, kraljicabenzinske said: Totally agree. However, I did like their friendship much more in the second half of the season! Spoiler The last episode, when they all visited Bloom's parents together and she finally told them the truth... it really made me tear up. Bloom's relationship with her parents was one of the things I absolutely loved about the original Winx, she had the sweetest parents. I'm so glad they decided to not keep them in the dark for the rest of the series. And that she brought her friends for support! 19 hours ago, kraljicabenzinske said: As you can see from my opinion, a lot of the differences come down to how teenagers were like in 2005 vs how they are today. The finale episode was full of great twists. They actually had a great storyline for the first season, I'm very impressed after having watched it all now. I'm certain we'll see blood witches in season 2 as well. So much to be excited for!

It wouldn't hurt giving it a chance and as you can see by what other people say, it gets better by the finale and a lot of things get cleared up. Also I had no idea World of Winx Season 3 was coming! Actually I don't see any official confirmations online. I only know Season 9 is confirmed and that they plan to change the format to a 10-15 minute episode and make it even more childlish.... It's so sad to see that the original series has no intention of going back to what it once was. I thought there was a chance for that since Nickelodeon is now out of the picture, but it's only getting worse... 1 Quote *:・゚✧*:・゚✧✿☆𝐦𝐲 𝐠𝐨𝐨𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐢𝐬 𝐦𝐲 𝐩𝐨𝐞𝐭𝐫𝐲☆✿✧・゚: *✧・゚:* *:・゚✧*:・゚✧✿☆𝐦𝐲 𝐬𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐢𝐬 𝐦𝐲 𝐥𝐞𝐠𝐚𝐜𝐲☆✿✧・゚: *✧・゚:*

Haven't seen the show yet but from what my friends are saying they did Stella dirty and that's why I'm hesitant to even consider watching this. Because she was one of my very first role models lol. To make her plain mean is really off putting. Aside from the fact that the show looks dull in color and dark. Is it consistent in the span of 6 episodes? I also don't get why they didn't just create their own thing. Why touch a franchise when you're gonna change so many things AND piss off so many people?
sweetie 6,628 Posted January 24, 2021 I enjoyed binging this - one of those shows that's so bad you can't stop watching. One of the worst character development and writing I've ever seen on a Netflix show. So predictable too, you could smell the plot from a million miles away.
