Because I used to listen to this exact kind europop in the 2000s and I can see the influence from ATC's Around The World. Butterfly is not psychedelic cmon.

And comparing to European music is not offensive (I know you didn't say it but I feel like you're implying as it's bad that I compare the music to europop), I'm European and so is Marina, European (pop) music has been one of her influences. I grew up listening to this kind music and even though I have outgrown it now as I don't listen to this type of music now, it is a bit nostalgic for me to listen to it now.

Greek music has elements not found in places like Germany, Scandinavia tho. The "European" term is so futile

Yeah but I didn't necessarily mean Greek music (although she has said that she's influenced from it as well), she has lived in London and europop music was popular in West European countries like UK.

I mean, you can define it as psychedelic pop if you want to. But personally I don't hear any influence from psychedelic music. It is close to chamber pop but imo Butterfly doesn't really have a concrete defining genre, since it has influences and fusions from there and there.

I completely agree. I love europop too and one of the first things I thought when she dropped the song was that the production sounded like the baby of Kylie Minogue's Can't Get You Out of My Head and ATC's Around The World.

The 'europop' is such a stupid term anyway. Like basically in fact most ppl regard it is anything pop made in Europe. And now listing Can't Get You which is just nu-disco-influenced? Same like Dua Lipa lately? Okay

Just listened to Cupid's Girl as it's out in NZ. It's good, I am not obsessed yet, but feels more like a 'proper' track? I thought more would be going on in the background but I need to immerse, check with my airpods lol...

I wonder if Cupid Girl's music video is some kind of a sequel to Butterfly's video. She has different make-up in the behind the scenes video but it feels like a continuation somehow. Probably has the same director.

I really loved the video for Butterfly though. She looked so beautiful there. Like a goddess.

as a staunch europop baddie, i think it very much is it’s own distinct subgenre of pop, regardless of where it was made

that being said, this music is not europop in the slightest... :brigitte:

Butterfly song has grown so much in me. Like I sometimes sing the chorus on my own. It's really catchy.

To be honest, I really like the production on Butterfly. It sounds bubbly and dreamy. Kind of a softer, dreamier version of 2000s European songs.

I think that M6 is going to be her most pop album and catchiest album since Electra Heart

only thing that hasnt aged well for me is the verses, i find the shift from the chorus to them a little jarring :( the songs not bad though and its so catchy. bridge and chorus have been constantly rotating in the back of my mind since i heard it

I just wanna know what is this stan trend of "claiming" songs.

All you have is a tracklist and a vague concept of album direction.

Seeing people go "Oh! Claiming song XYZ!" - so weird. I've seen it in a few posts here.

Someone explain.

CUPID'S GIRL is such a boooop :defeated:

It's so good to hear Marina singing in low register after a looong time, her vocals on the verses remind me of FROOT

I also can hear some 80s elements, and yes, there are very small scary aspects, like the intro and the sound of the verses.

Definitely an enjoyable bop and much better than Butterfly
