My top 10 albums this year is probably as follows:

  1. Florence + the Machine - Dance Fever
  2. AURORA - The Gods We Can Touch
  3. Skylar Grey - Skylar Grey
  4. Rina Sawayama - Hold the Girl
  5. Taylor Swift - Midnights
  6. Charli XCX - Crash
  7. Giusy Ferreri - Cortometraggi
  8. McKenna Michels - Enlightenment
  9. FKA twigs - CAPRISONGS
  10. Tove Lo - Dirt Femme

Honorable mentions to Bastille's Give Me the Future and Ava Max's Diamonds & Dancefloors, the latter being postponed to January but in my head it is 2022 so.

And I haven't listened yet to Carly Rae Jepsen's The Loneliest Time, River Westin's The Honeymoon Suite and Björk's Fossora but I just KNOW they would make it to my top 10 so probably before the year ends I'll make it a top 15 to fit all these lmao.

UPDATE:

  1. Florence + the Machine - Dance Fever
  2. AURORA - The Gods We Can Touch
  3. Rina Sawayama - Hold the Girl
  4. Carly Rae Jepsen - The Loneliest Time
  5. Taylor Swift - Midnights
  6. Skylar Grey - Skylar Grey
  7. Charli XCX - Crash
  8. Bastille - Give Me the Future
  9. Tove Lo - Dirt Femme
  10. FKA twigs - CAPRISONGS

Highlights:

1. Midnights, Taylor Swift

  • Standout Tracks: Lavender Haze, Maroon, You're On Your Own, Kid
  • Weakest Tracks: Glitch, Question...?, Vigilante Shit
  • Overall: 8.75/10. Red (Taylor's Version) and evermore are still the top of her discography--but this is enjoyable and really does sound like the concept; a journey through the wild thoughts that run through your mind at the after-after party.

2. Dance Fever, Florence + The Machine

  • Standout Tracks: Girls Against God, Dream Girl Evil, Morning Elvis
  • Weakest Tracks: Choreomania, King, Free
  • Overall: 8.5/10. Still doesn't top High As Hope, but each track serves a clear purpose on the album and the whole thing is enjoyable to listen to from front to back. As signature Florence cinematic moments and lyrics that flow like poetry.

3. Brightside, The Lumineers

  • Standout Tracks: Where We Are, AM Radio, Brightside
  • Weakest Tracks: Birthday
  • Overall: 8/10. Short album so not that many weak tracks. Cohesive, almost too much so.

Disappointments:

1. Dawn FM, The Weeknd

Just plain disappointing as a followup to his previous work. The visual were miles ahead of the music imo.

2. The Loneliest Time, Carly Rae Jepsen

Western Wind was a standout, but the rest of the album didn't seem to have much charisma lyrically. Maybe I need to spend more time with it.

3. Finally Enough Love, Madonna

I didn't have high hopes for a Madonna remix/greatest hits album--but I hoped for something more interesting than what she gave. I wish there was some nonstop moments in the tracklist a la COADF or a remix that really breathed new life into an older song (the TikTok remix of, now viral, Back That Up To The Beat, e.g.).

yesss, denim and diamonds appreciation. i only started listening to nikki this year and it was honestly because of lana. ask anyone who knows me and they’ll tell you that i’m an avid country music hater, however, i love nikki and her music with my whole heart. i saw her live this year and she delivered. she’s truly such an icon. NikkiGif.gif?format=original
