Thunder Revenant 20,950 Posted June 8, 2014 The chord progression in MPG sounds a lot more like that Byron clip to me than CW. Yeah, but for me the way she sings and the "emotions" as well as the lyrics kind of seemed to fit CW. While MPG is said to be "I want the Money, the Power and the glory!" and have some kind of hip-hop-esque beats and in the snippet her voice sounds "cooler", while CW seems to be more desperate. Well, we'll see ... 0 Just do it. Just do it - don't wait!
Trash Magic 28,396 Posted June 8, 2014 okay after being cyber-bullied by @@evilentity I decided to listen to the snippets The sound of the album reminds me of Sunny Side Up by Paolo Nutini. I love the shift from the polished, arguably, over produced songs from Born To Die. We have an album of stripped laid back songs which sound spontaneous and very in the moment. She could churn out album after album of Blue Jeans and Video Games style songs but I think it's a bold move to consciously decide to do stuff in one-take and I think that's what makes an album special or memorable in years to come. I think the process behind the album is wildly different than Born To Die and Paradise. I love how she seems to be using her voice to her full ability and singing in ways we haven't heard before. I was totally not impressed with the lyrics of the title track at first, but every snippet sounds great. Shades of Cool remains the track to beat. I feel like this album is a full circle moment for her, finally being recognised as a genuine artist Ready for the rock and roll hall of fame admission 1 "It's 2011, and we should all be aware of exactly how fast technology is developing" - Lana Del Rey

merman 28 Posted June 8, 2014 I know Kurt didn't have ulcers, he had ulcerative colitis which fancy doctor talk for Inflammatory Bowel Disease, but most people hear that and think ulcers. Google it! so many people believe he had ulcers just because of the common misconception, so don't you think if Lana was trying to emulate him, she'd say ulcers instead of "Oh yeah I have inflammatory bowel disease" 1) that is not something a superstar would say on a radio interview because ew, overshare, and 2) if she's trying to emulate Kurt it would just make as much sense to be vague and say ulcer because everyone always thought Kurt had ulcers too... I'm trying to help out your theory here dude. Thanks, I think my theory is spot on. Do you think she's just talking shit? I haven't actually listened to her in the interview yet but I was just thinking that's not right 3 years for an ulcer diagnosis, don't think so and anyone with stomach issues is pretty much ultra skinny cause their gut just can't handle food and not being mean but Lana is looking like bigger than ever. There is an interview with Kurt talking about his gut I'm pretty sure he said he never had a definite diagnosis cause the dr's are crap but is was agreed it was a stress related illness whereas ulcers are caused by a bacterial infection eww

LiamViljoen 908 Posted June 8, 2014 We all know this album is going to rock, but I just think it's important to realise that however great this record is, and however much the critics love it (I hope ) All those kids that go around saying "She's a puppet of the industry and she's only famous cause her father is a millionaire!" AREN'T going to change their tone. I mean, why would they? The main reason they do that is to add credibility to their own musical taste. On top of this, people like to feel intelligent and sophisticated, and so are determined not to be tricked. The way a lot of people portray Lana as a marketing puppet, people become defensive and go out trying to prove they have not been "tricked" by the industry. They're not even gonna listen to UV, but we all know they'll be there when the record comes out to say "FLOP! LANA DEL FAKE! YOU'VE ALL BEEN FOOLED BY THE INDUSTRY!!! SHE'S A PUPPET! A PUPPET!" It's never gonna get any better. I don't know, maybe I shouldn't say this while you're all hyped, but some people are stubborn, they don't listen to the music, they just criticise it to make themselves feel smart. I do have a reason to say this, I just watched this really unfunny barely political video where they did a parody of lana (usually I find the Lana parody videos funny, but these guys just took a whole bunch of cheep shots, it didn't really seem like they knew anything about Lana at all) and there were LOADS of debates talking about how Lana is nothing like how they made her out to be in the vid, when someone just randomly said "YOU'RE ALL STUPID LANA'S A MARKETING PUPPET" And I got really annoyed because of how hyped I am for UV. THIS IS NEVER GOING TO CHANGE, WE CAN DREAM, BUT IT NEVER WILL.

There is an interview with Kurt talking about his gut I'm pretty sure he said he never had a definite diagnosis cause the dr's are crap but is was agreed it was a stress related illness whereas ulcers are caused by a bacterial infection eww To be honest, I have a theory that Lana is a compulsive liar and that she can't help it lol She might have stage fright which manifests itself as stomach upset which probably just compounds itself because who wants to perform when they feel like they're going to simultaneously vomit and shit their pants? No one. My brother suffered from practically the same thing growing up (right down to getting nervous before plane rides enough to vomit non stop during, I've even had him puke in my lap, twice lol) and it came down to his nerves and having a nervous stomach. Practically everything made him nervous growing up, even going to see a movie would get him worked up enough that he would throw up in the theatre. It was like he was scared of throwing up from being nervous, so he'd throw up because he was nervous about throwing up. A self fulfilling prophecy or negative feedback loop, whatever you want to call it. Doctors put him on antidepressants from a young age and just now at 21 he's finally starting to feel like a normal person. He's pretty skinny but he manages to eat normally now. Lana says she eats a lot of spaghetti and only that which sounds a lot like my brother who would only eat cheese and pickle sandwiches growing up, even if we were at a fancy restaurant, my mom would pack him one in a ziploc. I don't know, it all sounds very familiar to me, and I could see it going either way. We know Lana is notorious for making shit up or being extremely hyperbolic with her anecdotes, but at the same time, the symptoms she describes sounds so familiar to me as someone who watched a loved one suffer for so many years. Who knows really? Only Lana, I suppose. Part of me wants to believe her and the other part thinks "Yeah right", but I guess we'll never really know. As for the three year diagnosis thing, my brother was getting all sorts of tests done from the time he was 5 until he was about 15. He was in and out of the hospital constantly getting tested on because they thought he was showing signs of ulcers and they even diagnosed it as ulcers for a short period of time before they realised it was because of anxiety that his stomach was acting up. So a long diagnosis is possible and "ulcers" might be the best the answer they can give her right now. I do think Lana has some psychological issues though and she might actually believe she suffers from the same thing as Kurt as a form of idolatry, when all it could be is the power of suggestion and a bad case of stage fright. Kinda like when you have a headache and you google your symptoms and "cancer" comes up so you automatically believe you have a brain tumour instead of, I don't know, being dehydrated or something.

The Barely Political video was nothing like funny, and it was so 2011 Lana. The guy's usually ok, but here he was trying too hard to get all the hype happening around Lana obviously. "I feel sorry for this count though" For all the debate, I think there will always be haters, but I mean you can't big such an important musical act without getting a little hate you know. But I hope that, as Lana does new TV appearances and things like that, this hate toward her will decrease.

What made it funny was that a lot of it was based on how she acted in video interviews, and not just how people say she acts like in the BC video. What really annoyed me about their attempt at imitating Lana led to a whole bunch of haters in the comments going "OH MY GOD I THOUGHT THAT WAS LANA, SHE'S TOTALLY LIKE THAT" Lol, it's really annoying but at least they'll never be able to say Lana was a one hit wonder, we're far past that stage now.

dsvelca 837 Posted June 8, 2014 Oh dear GOD.... #ULTRAFLOP! #LANADELFLOP! I really don't think that will happen. Her sales are so much better at this point. All her singles have charted, and the album is constantly selling in the top 5 of iTunes. I definitely think first week sales will be much better than BTD. As for long term sales, well, I guess we shall see

Kinda like when you have a headache and you google your symptoms and "cancer" comes up so you automatically believe you have a brain tumour instead of, I don't know, being dehydrated or something. I think the same that's why I hate listening to/reading her interviews, like I just listened to that one and she admits she signed to universal before video games and she made this massive fuss back then that she was signed after cause she wanted to look indie. Your poor brother that's a nightmare like 10 years!! I get it with Kurt suffering for 6 yrs cause it was 25 years ago and the specialists were probably shit but now they are more knowledgable and advanced. Glad your brother got sorted in the end, we have it in our family and crohn's. I'll never forget my endoscopy I got offered to be sedated or just have throat anaesthetic I went for that cause I thought if I was awake they would be more gentle, they rammed a tube like an inch thick down my throat into my gut and I couldn't stop retching and belching like massive barfs, blargh bleeegh bleagh they were so loud and I couldn't stop and it was like funny and disturbing at the same time. I kind of got historical laughter but couldn't really laugh cause I was in pain, then water just started streaming out my eyes like so much water and then my nose got so snotty I couldn't breath anymore cause there's the giant tube down my throat and the dr's like are you alright! I couldn't say anything cause of the fuck off giant camera tube inside and just belched and retched some more. He said my gut lining looked really red and inflamed and he was going to take a sample for biopsy so he feeds another tube down the big one and I actually feel him pulling bits of my gut out with this thing, it felt so wrong and all the time I'm blleaahh bleeegh. Seriously if anyone has to have this procedure take the sedative and get knocked out it was too fucking freaky I'm still scarred, seriously it was like an alien autopsy, I got treated really quick though in about a year and my sister they sorted her out real quick in a few months she was really bad, we just both have ultra sensitive guts and allergic/intolerant to most food, basically a really shit immune and digestive system.
